Title: BW49ners
Post by: Ginagee on 10 November 2013, 17:01
Ok, go easy on me, this is my first thread starter! Anyone else out there BW49 - 1.12.13? If so, hello. I think we'll be looking at early January delivery, fingers crossed.

Quite an exclusive club then Ginagee?! Looking on the 'new arrivals' post there doesn't seem to be many folks ordering these in black, should i be worried? As mine is through lease i just didn't see any point in paying the extra cost for paint options, it came down to a choice between tornado red or black. I was hoping i might just be able to pick it up the last week in december but i guess that's too much to wish for.

Aye yes, very exclusive - Must reserve BW49 for us Northerners! We are just over the hills from you, very West Yorkshire.
I think they look excellent in Black, wouldn't worry. Get it detailed with a super high shine & it will look amazing. What spec have you gone for?
Think we are defo looking at early-mid Jan for delivery. This is the estimate the dealer has given. However, it seems the build times are speeding up, some BW48's are currently in production already.

Hi ianddjm. Welcome to the exclusive VIP 49ners club  When did you order yours?
Title: Re: BW49ners

I ordered the car on 22 October

You're not going to be waiting long at all then. I ordered a month before you. Did your dealer have a slot reserved?
Title: Re: BW49ners
Post by: iandjm on 19 November 2013, 09:22
Hi,

I dont believe the dealer had a slot, although it may have been allocated to one of theirs if free automatically.  its funny the delaer says week 49 on their system and the online tracker says w/b 24/11/13 with is week 48. All very confusing  :nerd:

Post by: Ginagee on 22 November 2013, 13:24
Yeah, it's all swings & roundabouts. I got unconfirmed BW50 from dealer, but it came up BW49 on the tracker. Dealer did say they would keep me informed of progress, they haven't… but that's fine, I'm happy to not bother them & just watch the tracker. It will arrive when it arrives! Hopefully early Jan…
Won't be long till we're watching them boats!

I ordered mine at the end of May with the build week starting at 44 but slipped to a confirmed week 49. I've got a delivery date of jan 6th from the dealer...

Title: Re: BW49ners
Post by: JBirchy on 03 December 2013, 12:56
I ordered on 28th October and got a call a couple of weeks ago advising unconfirmed BW4 2014 which I was quite happy with.

They've just called me today and said its saying it's being built this week! Never heard of such an improvement!

Either way, (for personal reasons) I'll be waiting until March for collection so it doesn't really matter, but nice to know it's there if I want it!

Hi JBirchy, yep that's pretty cool that your BW has come forward a few weeks. I don't know about you, but I couldn't hang fire till March, knowing it's there waiting for you. Serious will power required.

Believe me, it isn't my decision! I don't know how I'm going to manage! However it's my birthday on 28th Feb so if I can collect it on 1st March, it will be a nice little birthday present for me!

Well that's a good incentive to wait. And the bonus is you get a new 14 plate, and it will miss the worst of the weather and salt.

^^ That's my main reason for waiting to be honest. It's the first new car I've owned and don't want to be worried about banging it in the snow which seems to stick around longer and longer each year!

It will be a great day though!

Mine too Ginagee, was really hoping to see 'build in progress'  but sadly still stuck on BW confirmed ! Getting a tad frustrated now if I'm honest. I'm convinced it'll be well worth the wait but still doesn't stop me checking the tracker at least twice a day. There's only so many times I can look at KyleB's car before the green eyed monster takes over !

Yep, the excitement is building, and the urge to check the tracker every 5 mins is pretty strong. I'm still on BW Confirmed… but you know, I'm hopeful it may just skip to in transit like some of the BW46 folk. Some of BW47 are now saying theirs are in the UK, so ours could be arriving in Grimsby in two weeks!!!!

I'm collecting my BW46 car tomorrow or Saturday so this should give you a clue as to when to expect yours.
I've had no real delays, I would guess your cars should arrive 1st / 2nd week of Jan given that the factory closes for 2 weeks this month.

At last, mine too Ginagee !! We're edging closer and closer now, I'm still not confident enough to sell my current car though. My GTD is being delivered to a dealership in Telford and I live near Bolton, can't decide whether I should have it delivered to my house or go and pick it up myself.

Gonna burst here! Just got email from dealer:

"It looks like your new car is at the port in Emden waiting to be shipped, so I don't want to promise but you may have the car by Christmas it just depends how long it takes to get transported.

I'll keep an eye on it and let you know when the status changes."

About 1 day to ship from Emden to Grimsby then up to 7 days to get to your dealers :D

Thats encouraging Ginagee, what is your tracker showing? Mine's still showing 'in production', has it moved onto 'in transit' yet? Mine seemed to move onto 'in production' on Sunday, which I believe was the same day as yours. I've not heard from the dealership but hopefully mine will be keeping yours company at Emden !

Yeah, my tracker is same stage as yours. So it was a big surprise getting the email today stating it was at Emden. I've responded to the email and asked if they can let me know what boat it ships over on. Hopefully they'll let me know, and if so, will let you know

Your cars should be at stage 38 - port to exit, your dealers computers will give you most information.
My car was sat at Emden for a good 3-5 days before it saw movement.
Then 1 day to get over to Grimsby and unto 7 days to get to dealership.....

Well folks, went to go & hand over the Honda MOT & Registration doc yesterday for swapping the private plates…. the waiting is nearly over!!!!!  It's gonna be just before Christmas, or just after. I'm quite happy for it to be beginning of Jan, then it's a 14 year car. Dealer says she'll look out for what boat it's coming across on.

Cancelled the Autoglym Lifeshine, and they were cool about that. So just really happy & getting v. excited!

Yep, Mark is right, you will be £300-400 better off come trade in. For the sake of £400 I wasn't bothered.
Why not wait for March 1st 14 plate? You'll save even more? :)

Mine is apparently due at the dealer mid January (although I have no idea what build week I am as you can't access the tracker on tax free sales) but I'm leaving it until March to collect - this also has something to do with being unable to get it on a boat to Cyprus until March anyway!

I might give my dealer a call then! I've deliberately not chased them as I don't want to collect until 1st March for a number of reasons (not all in my control I'll have you know!) so I've not even asked for my tracking details as I know all I would do is sit and press the refresh button! Pointless given I don't want it yet anyway!

However, I'm keen to go and see the car when it arrives at the dealers and look forward to seeing all yours in the New Arrivals section!

Oh Mark noooo! This is going to be my second brand new car. The first was a bog standard Fiat Punto way back 16 years ago. It will be my first VW (first German car even) and first car with proper performance, so I feel pretty giddy!!! I've always had a passion for cars, but never been in a position to get one I've really really wanted before.

Ha ha ha! So you all think I'm driving a beat up 16 year old Punto now!!!!!   Noooooooooo!
I have had quite a few second hand cars in-between (and before)! Currently in a 2008 1.8 Honda Civic EX. Had it 4 years, and got to say it's been a nice drive. BUT…. noticed there's a lot of Honda Civic taxi's these days… it had to go!!!!!! Ok, I'm a car snob.
I would love a Scirocco… always loved them as soon as they came out. But it's a coupe & not enough doors (Have kids)! See what you mean about a side step & a bit up. But it's still exciting!

Its not the salty sea and wind you should worry about, its the acid seagul bird poo
Only kidding, the truck transporters might be on holidays but it wont be long.

What's the best way to swap a private plate to a new car?
Title: Re: BW49ners
Post by: Mark V GTD on 31 December 2013, 10:08
Get the new car with its normal plate on first. If your private plate is on retention just follow the instructions printed on the certificate. If you try to get the private plate straight on the new car it can cause delays and will also be a pain at trade-in/sale time later as you won't know the normal number for it until you go through the retention process again.

In any case ensure the dealer makes normal and private plates for you so that the the physical swap is straight forward once the paperwork is sorted out with DVLA.

But I was really wanting to drive the new car home with my private plates on. However, from what Marks says, it would make sense to get the dealers to make up both plates.

The dealer said it normally takes 2 weeks to process plate retention at the DVLA. Then you can pick up your new car (when it's finally ready!) with it's normal plates on, and transfer to your private ones yourself.

My tracker has only just moved to 'arrived in the uk' this morning so i guess i'm looking at a couple of weeks from now before it's ready for me to collect. Getting a bit giddy now to be honest and a nice way to start 2014  :smug:

Lol  well they will probably leave it at the dock until they get the DVLA paperwork come though, pointless taking up space at the dealership etc.
I sent my paper work to the DVLA, also waiting....

You may have a point there. In fact I'm gonna get in touch now and let them know I'm cool to do the transfer after collection. Thanks 2014GTi

Yes, have a word with them and see if they can do the transfer after collecting, if your part exchanging a car then this might provide difficult.

So in future folks, if you have a private plate on your car, have it removed a month in advance and ensure you have the retention certificate to hand.
During busy periods like March / Sept 1st or Xmas DVLA can take ages dealing with registration requests.. the best advice would be to have your car bought on the original plate and then sort out your own private plate afterwards.
The plus side is that you have the original set of plates to put back on when you come to sell it

Back onto private plate transfers, and sorry not on thread topic: My current car Reg doc with original number plate has arrived in the post… Bearing in mind the new car has been in the UK for nearly 2 weeks now waiting to be transported to the dealer, so looking at a week till collection?… Do I just keep the private plate on current car till trading in? Or do I legally need to swap it now? I'd need to get new plates made though (Hassle!).

Right, this is what I would do.

1. put old plates on current car and inform insurance of registration plate change
2. agree to collect GTi without transfering the private plate onto it, this will allow you to collect sooner
3. when the private plate certificate comes through put the place on your GTi

Simples!

So just spoke to my dealer (VW Liverpool) and they said my car is still sat at the port in Emden! Quite surprised given Gina already has hers!

I've never ad my own logon to the tracker (resisted asking for it as I still don't want to collect the car until 1st March so no point me chasing!) so I've never known where it's up to in the cycle.

The dealer is great to be fair, and they're going to advise me when it arrives so I can go and have a look at when it does turn up.

I've never been in this situation before though, where I am itchingly excited and desperately want something, but still wanting to wait for 7-8 weeks before I pick it up!

Hang on in there JBirchy. I bet your more than itching to see it. When you do finally get it, it's amazing. I'm finding every excuse to go out in it. Got a nice 40 mile drive tomorrow… some lovely A roads to enjoy!
But mixed in with the excitement is the dread of somat happening to it. Went to the gym this morning, and had to keep checking it was still there! So there I was on't rowing machine straining to watch folk parking next to it through the window!!!! Arrrghhh!
Any road up, you've waited this long, you can make it another few weeks. March will soon be here, and then we'll get some finer weather. At least it won't be enduring the salt, ice & snow.

Well there's no turning back now, current car being picked up tomorrow then gtd being delivered to me on Friday! I know what you mean Ginagee regarding being torn between going out for a spin and the fear of someone pranging it, for the next few visits to Asda for our 'big shop' I'll be the one parked at the far end of the car park, well away from all those other pesky drivers!!

Picked my gtd up from Inchcape Telford, yesterday. Really good handover experience then a 90ish mile trip back home, planned to take my time and avoid motorways but didn't quite work out that way, the temptation was too great so had to give it a slight workout. Really impressed so far and plan to take a trip up to Scotland in a few weeks to put it through its paces.

Fantastic Millzy68. Know what you been about giving it just a little oomph. I've been doing a bit, not flooring it, but certainly giving it some beans  If anyone spots me, I'm the one with the permanent grin on my face! Really pleased you are enjoying it. Don't forget to post pics! And when you get up into Scotland with some breath taking scenery as a backdrop.
