I pick up my GTD today  which was built prior to the BW45 changes.
I have enquired with my dealer about getting the mirrors changed to operate as per the BW45 update.
Unfortunately I have been told that this will not be possible as the alteration is a hardware and software change
At the end of the days it's no biggie but doesn't sound like a VCDS tweak of any sort will be available for us early adopters (unlessy dealer has incorrect info)

i would seriously doubt if there is a hardware change to implement this minor mod (although obviously that's what all dealers would tell us - stops us asking difficult questions which they can't answer ). Probably more a firmware update to the door control modules to "add" this feature.
The door modules already have access to a permanent live from Terminal 15, so would be pretty easy to achieve by VW with a minor software mod. It still might even be possible with pre WK45 cars, as most of the bits and bytes for both the central electronics and door modules have yet to be fully and accurately mapped.

Hi,
I'm a bit confused as the demonstrator GTI I drove several months ago had the auto folding on the mirrors already?

Yeah they would unfold when the ignition is turned and fold when the doors are locked.
After BW45 they will fold and unfold upon locking and unlocking

Oops my fault. Its certainly the most impressive car I have dirven for ages. Even better than the V6 4Motion I had years ago, and that is saying something

@Norbreck21a So, can the door mirrors unfold on unlocking with a VCDS (VAG-COM) hack?
Or can't this be done? Thx

There is no know VCDS hack for this yet. If its a hardware change as well - then there wont be!

If they can fold on key fob lock, then they can certainly be made to unfold on keyfob unlock. It's just a matter of finding out the coding.

I would think its going to be a case of waiting for someone to run VCDS on a post BW45 car to reveal the coding.

True enough.
So there's a chance it could be done. I hope it can be fettled as I'd prefer them to unfold on unlock. Fingers crossed.

I think its a possibility - a hardware change is unlikely as its such a minor tweak from the previous set-up.

I think it is a nice feature for them NOT to unfold on unlock. The amount of times I lock the car whilst it is on the drive and then have to keep unlocking it to get the kids football and school stuff out. Why would you need them to unfold on unlock - I cannot think of a good reason...if you are in the car and want to use your mirrors, don't lock your car

^^^^
I suppose its just one more less button/switch to press
-
Mirrors folded in on approach can keep them usefully out of the way when parked in a bay - you can still switch the approach lighting on without moving them out. Quite a handy feature as it turns out.

The mirrors have puddle lights on them which only come on when they are unfolded. With the unfold on ignition you will never see the lights when unlocking / entering your motor!

You've got me there dippy_x. We should change the thread subject to 'puddle light'
