Title: BW46 - 10.11.13
Post by: 2014GTi on 21 October 2013, 13:59
Hi all,

new here, thought I would kick off a build week 46 thread - 10.11.13 (get new revised BW45 spec)
Having read posts about long waiting timesand problems, I have to say that so far my buying experiance and delivery expectations have not dissapointed me.
The dealer told me to expect my car either Dec/Jan when I placed the order and so far it looks to be the case (or have I missed something?)

Ordered mine on Sept 14th
Got a confirmed build week of 46 - 10.11.13
Expecting delivery in December

Anybody think that december delivery is not likely/possible?

Here is my specification:-

Golf GTi 3dr 6-speed manual
Tartan interior
Pure White
Performance Pack
19" Santiago alloys
Winter Pack
DynAudio Sound Pack
Keyless Entry
ACC (DCC) Adaptive Chasis
Advanced Phone Kit
Climate Windscreen
High-beam Assist
Parking Assist
Rear-view Camera
AutoGylm LifeShine
Service Plan 3yrs/30k miles
3 Year GAP RTI
4 Year Warranty

I am soooooooooo excited.  got a nice discount too.....

2013GTi I have the same build week as you, I was scheduled for week 44 but it got pushed back.

I have been told it should be here for Christmas, we'll see.

Fingers crossed... looking at the Volkswagen tracker site it states the following:-

Car takes 30 hours 2-4 days to build
Then once built takes 4 weeks to arrive at the dealership.

This would mean that if there are no delays and if the worst case build slot falls on 17/10 (still BW46) + 4 days.. it would mean the car could be shipped to the UK in time for mid december?

or maybe will get delayed by 3 months

I ordered 4 days later than you 2013GTi, but have only been given an unconfirmed BW50, 4 weeks later than yours. I've got a much slimmer spec list too. Very odd. Wonder if some VW dealerships have a preferential relationship with the German factory perhaps?

I think it might be down to the factory probably producing cars in batches based on colours maybe?
I will be really chuffed if it turns up in december though and it will be a nice addition to my other Golf

My unconfirmed BW was also 46, so I would say your might stick at BW50.

My Polo Bluemotion is going to a new home and will be missed  roll on GTi.

Hi all I'm BW 46 too, ordered 3rd October, but will probably wait till March 1st for delivery *must control temptation*

To those who ordered at same time or before, did you order DSG? The manuals seem to be getting made faster for some reason but trying to find logic in VW is something of an inexact science.

Could someone do a quick roundup of the "new spec" post BW 45. I thought it was just the iphone connecter!

If mine arrived early feb I would have waited for March 1st (14) but I'm putting my own plate on it and rather have it this year. :)

There are very minor differences from BW45 onwards.
iPhone5 cable and a sound thingy for the GTD, there is another tread with more info.

However I am hope Volkswagen have installed the new updated USB/iPod connection as cars specified with Advanced Phone Kit lose MDI/iPod connections :(

Spoken to two separate people from VW looking into my order, both said BW 46 should expect it just before Xmas, but of course quick to remind me how tentative this estimation is.

If a car's manufacture date is 2013 it's okay for it to be registered as 2014 by the DVLA if you choose not to register it until the new year?

Yes, because they record the date of first registration...

Yes, because they record the date of first registration...

My point being will the 2013 manufacture date negatively affect resale value despite 2014 registration? (will 2013 have to be listed in any future sale?)

Apologies if the answer to this is very obvious
Title: Re: BW46 - 10.11.13
Post by: monkeyhanger on 22 October 2013, 18:33
Nope. A 2014 registered car is a 2014 car to whoever buys it in the future. Pre recession it was commonplace for car manufacturers to stockpile. Cars made 4 months or more before sale. The car has no consumer history before it is registered.

Just wondering if BW46 is a 'Pure white' week. Looking at all the specs listed in signatures that's all I see.

Whilst I can't see my build week (tax free sale so my order doesn't register on the system the same way as normal orders) my car has been forecast for arriving in the UK just before Christmas too (and it's pure white) although my spec isn't quite as extensive as the OP's!

Fingers crossed guys they all turn up on time and everyone has a daft smile plastered on their face on delivery!!!

Build week 46 confirmed for my GTI as well, from 6th September order placement. Original lead time estimate was 22 weeks, so its likely to be much quicker than the dealer originally forecast. My order was timed to align with the forthcoming 14 plate, so the early build is a bit of a disappointment (although its very tempting to just take it early!). However the dealer thinks March 1st collection should still be possible as they claim to have 10 weeks leeway on delivery (although I suspect even 10 weeks may not be enough if the VW build/shipping process works quickly). Just hope the car is not parked in the open with the battery going flat between times!

Mine is pure white too. And performance pack. I wonder if the BW46 suggests that the rear rattling dampers are fixed. The BW45 seems like a benchmark. In Great Britain at least. I don't know about the rest of Europe though. And (a little out of topic) can someone tell me this one: does the rear armrest in the 3-door GTI guise have the nasty, cheap plastic cup holders? I hope not, I really hate them...
Title: Re: BW46 - 10.11.13
Post by: Gnasher on 01 November 2013, 19:09
Well, andygou ruined my 'Pure white' theory lol!

Didn't know there was a rear damper problem! I know there is a EU wide warranty but I think I'll end up driving mine straight from the dealers to the port ready for shipping to Cyprus - hopefully the dealers out here are more helpful than some of the UK ones!! Actually I'm more hoping I don't need to find out!
Title: Re: BW46 - 10.11.13
Post by: andygou on 01 November 2013, 23:33
Sorry for ruining your theory GnasherVXR!

I wonder if the timing is something to do with material availability for one or more of the options, e.g. I notice a fair proportion of Performance Pack cars specced in the thread. All it needs is something obscure like one of the bigger discs to have been on shortage!

I had a call from my dealer this week to say that everything is still on target for delivery by 31st Dec. :)

Build week coming up, hope our trackers tick over to Build in Progress soon. Has anyone contacted their dealer about a build day? I assume this is the day that building the car commences, because it must take 2-3 days?

Geomets this is the calm before the storm, things are going to kick off next week
Title: Re: BW46 - 10.11.13

Build in theory should start any day from Sunday to Sunday. It takes 30 hours to build split over 2-4 days.
I guess we will know by the end of next week if our cars are delayed or not  :undecided:

Well it seems odd, perhaps their was a error at the factory and it will arrive as a PP
We will be getting the new revised BW45 spec change so that's a bonus although I use a iPhone4S and not a 5. May have to buy a red MDI iPhone cable.

I've already bought some cleaning items etc

Nope :( we got until the end of the week and then we should perhaps expect delays.
It's best to speak to your dealer at the end of this week for a progress report.
The online tracker isn't that detailed and can be slow to update.
For example some owners have been sat waiting on Step 3, then straight to Step 5 in transit. :s

Not DCC equipped, does it have the option on the composition media to alter the intervention of the differential (as shown on the demos/youtube cars)? I asked the dealer, you know the answer I got...

Yes you should get the option to change the E-Diff between Normal & Sport.... you should also get options for Engine, Steering & Throttle too

Perfect! So, I suppose that diff at sport is going to be pretty effective in the wet, slippery Tarmac of my country! I had a horrific trip (about 530km) yesterday in pretty "wet" conditions. I'll PM you a short video taken with my GOPRO if you like to see what I mean. You'll lose your night sleep seeing the roads I drove. Pretty good for driving, pretty bad for staying mentally healthy!!!

The dealers systems should have better tracking information than the online customer facing tracker.... I don't know why VW bothered with it when its not indepth nor accurate enough

Great news! In this case it means that right-handed cars are being built faster than left-handed (like mine)! They must have upped the production of RHD cars due to demand. Late they were, but that suited you best! I hope you get it before that 4-week mark! Don't forget to share photos and a review!

GrahamFR your positivity has worked and my car has moved from "build week confirmed" to "In transit". This is even after calling VW UK on Thursday and they had no idea that my car must have been built or in process  :roll eyes:

I'm not complaining but was partly looking forward to watching the little robot arm moving on the tracker. So the next phase of the process now starts, moving from constantly clicking the refresh button on the tracker to following marine tracker.

Did anyone get to chose their number plate? I am going into the dealer later and will ask to do this if it is possible?

lol I would imagine the 3 weeks is from the moment it left the factory door to delivery at the dealers.
If this is true it could arrive 1st week of December :)

So hope it arrives before I go away again for 28 days

good news everyone, my dealer confirms my gti is on a boat that has just left Emden today for Grimsby and should be with them this week, hopefully this time next week I will be arranging to pick up my new pride and joy with its dodgy wipers, squeaky suspension, unopenable fuel caps lol cant wait. Have we all made our list of things to check before pick up?

Here is mine:

•   Fuel filler cap springing open
•   Squeaking knocking noises
•   Wipers drivers side smearing
•   Paint treatment, done right no swirl marks
•   Wastegate clip
•   Panels angling and matching up
•   Alloys checked
•   Check ACC (options in menu for dampers)
•   Check PP (vented discs on rear)
•   Keyless entry
•   Tyre depth
•   Any Dints
•   Chocks or blocks used for transport removed.

Please add to it if you think ive missed anything!

Nope, no idea. They only get an update on their system once it's on the ship.
I'm hoping it's on the next ship whenever that will be.

So that could mean, my car may come early... I was really hoping to collect it in 2 weeks time.

Having said that I noticed that some of the Sheerness boats head up north after dropping in Kent.

There's a lot of guessing and hoping.  In my case I got a confirmation from VW that mine is loading on a boat today.  Using the marine traffic website you can look at the boats docked in Emden and see what their destinations are.

Mine will be bound for Sheerness as I'm in the South, the other options are Grimsby or Tyne.

I've spent the past couple of weeks hoping every boat bound for Sheerness is going to be mine but this time I know it's the right boat.

Spoke to my dealer should be with him by the end of the week. He's going to keep it in the container at docks for as long as possible (probably less than a week) and then store in the dealership's secure covered compound until I'm ready to take it. He noted that many of their new cars are ordered without buyers so by the time somebody picks them up they've routinely been in the compound for a month or two, says 9/10 times doesn't lead to any problems down the line so here's hoping.

Going to be mighty jealous when the rest of you all get behind the wheel!

My car was just going through its PDI and the computer was testing lights and things, they took it off the ramps for me to have a good look round. I love the colour, its the first CSG I have seen in person. I checked the options that I added and they all seem to be there. So I can collect on Thursday. Called for the 7 day free insurance and the service was superb they have already knocked £130 off the annual quote but that is still about £90 more than my quote from gocompare.

Checked the tracker and that is still showing as arrived in the UK

I know we have all seen pics but here are mine

Only two sleeps

I keep thinking of things I should have checked; iPhone 5 cable, heated seat switches. I did manage to come away with the manuals though.

Seems our dealer was going to sort out our private plate transfer but as things have changed at the dvla we have had to send it off to get the plate put on retention from the old car, seems we have to wait for the certificate until we can get the new car

Gutted for your delay, but is it not quicker to get them to register the car with a 63 plate and then put your plate on later?

Title: Re: BW46 - 10.11.13
Post by: 2014GTi on 04 December 2013, 23:52
Yes, best option would have been to get the car on 63 plate and then sort your private plate out yourself at a later date.
It can cause upto 2 weeks delay in some cases waiting on DVLA.

darn  dealer should have sent off for a transfer/retention earlier, unfortunately you are now at the peril of DVLA and how busy they might be.

I collected it today...... its one epic car, you won't be disappointed.
Unfortunately it was raining so took what photos I could at the dealership.
PDI done correctly with no paint issues or swirl marks.

Happy for you 2013GTi! Have plenty of fun, but be careful in the first miles. Allow you some time to learn the car. As you have a three-door, could you please tell me if the rear armrest has cup-holders? I don't like them and I would like a confirmed answer. Nobody here ordered a three-door and the dealers know nothing about it (what else?)

I can confirm the 3dr car does indeed have cup holders in the rear armrest.
Something I was not expecting was a spare space saver tyre in the boot
I am going to take it steady for the first 800 miles and give it varied usage....
Been out today and filled her up with the good stuff (V-Power Nitro+)

Well I've had a good day with my new car, clocked up 30 miles, and I can safely say I have none of the issues that people seem to have been having on here. Wipers are fine and no squeaks at all, in fact it's like a library inside. I've even averaged 35 mpg so far with mixed driving so no complaints given the mileage.

Thank you 2013GTi, not the answer I expected though, I hate them. The armrest is for letting your arm to rest over there, not feeling the crap plastic they chose to through.
Happy driving to all the fellow BWs here who got their Golfs. Mine is it transit since 18/11/2013 and is expected to be in the dealership either this Friday or the next one. Anyway, I can pick it up only after the 02/01/2014 so I just hope it'll stick to its program...
P.S. The long transportation time is due to the long trip the ship is doing to get here. From Northern Sea to East Mediterranean with all the ports in-between which has to make stops. But I can't find the ship it's into....

Any UK people still waiting for their BW46 car?
Title: Re: BW46 - 10.11.13
Post by: R20TNR on 08 December 2013, 18:15
I was BW45 but found out I had been delayed until BW46.

Now coming into the 4th week and my car has still not even made it to final stage of the build yet.

Not so much annoyed at the delay... its the clear lack of information and different answers I am being given by VW UK.

- Your car has been built we are just waiting for it to go through quality control
- Your car has been delayed going through quality control
- Your car hasn't finished being built yet as we are waiting for parts that are on back order
- There has been a production problem with your car
- I am unable to say what has happened with your order as VW in Germany do not supply us with that amount of information. I can only advise you to call back next week.....AGAIN.

It is safe to say the excitement of getting my first ever new car has faded.  :undecided:

Got a nice surprise today... Car has finally left the factory after 5 weeks at build step 7 and should hopefully be on route to the boat

I'm sure this has been asked by loads of other people on here :embarrassed: but has anyone got a rough idea how long it took their car from being in transport to getting the first drive home from the dealership?

Hoping the weather won't be too bad driving the car to Liverpool for the boat home to Northern Ireland.

Its hard to say given the christmas holidays etc.
I would say you will be able to have a better idea of delivery time once its actually on a ship.
My car was sat at Emden port for a few days and missed 1/2 ships.
It then takes a day or so for the ship to travel and dock in the UK, then upto 7 days to get to your dealership via a transporter truck
The wait will be well worth it folks, the GTi has far exceeded my expectations, even getting decent mpg considering its not even run in yet.
I am getting 40-43mpg on my regular commutes to the office

Hopefully there won't be any more delays and it arrives in the mid to end of January.

Sounds like it will be worth the extra wait anyway which is good
