Post by: Hali on 03 October 2013, 22:28
Got a 150bhp aum gti 2002 with 85k on the clock, I want to get it remapped with r-tech but a bit worried it's an 11 year old car is it safe or will things start going wrong with it? It's my daily car to work

My AUM has been running a stage one for the last 2 years (25k miles) without a hitch, it's ready for a stage 2 map now though

Just make sure its in tip top condition before the remap

Give it a full service and get it checked for any boost leaks / cracked pipes etc etc

if it's been well looked after and your prepared to replace common parts that may fail (MAF, coilpacks, split PCV hoses) then go for it.

R-Tech are getting some very good results with stock 1.8t's - 100% worth it

Just be mindful you MAY need a clutch pretty soon after the map

I'd make sure you have everything covered before you go to get mapped, otherwise you may not get the most out of it. Before my stage 2 map I gave the car a good service, changed coilpacks, VR6 clutch and solid flywheel, new iridium spark plugs, Forge wastegate actuator. That's on top of the usual stuff I already had done (fmic, tip, etc..). Don't forget a tank of v-power as well

Pound for pound, it's the best modification you will ever buy.

Hey mine is a 12 year old 1.8T, I've had almost two year. The first thing I done was get I remapped Stage 1 at Jabbasport (located near. Peterborough) honestly it's the best thing I've ever done to a car. Yes as others have said it may highlight any existing problems but definitely get it serviced before you go. And once it's been done make sure you have it serviced regularly.
Depending where you're located i would recommend Jabba, however R-tech are just as good, if no better.
