Having scanned through the Mk7 golf brochure; I really like the far red leather that's available on the GT. but it doesn't appear that we have the option of speccing it on a GTD...???
Does anyone know if you can special order? I think it's called Marrakech?
-
I asked the same question at ordering time and its not available even as a special. Its only black leather in GTD/GTI

Doesn't really make sense when the GTI/GTD is a higher spec car than the GT??

It's very much similar to the GT having standard sat nav and both the GTI and GTI not. It must have made sense to VW but I can't see the logic behind it

My sentiments exactly. My bro in laws 1.4gt has Marrakech Vienna 12 way leathers.

It's always been the way with the GTI/D. There was a cream leather option in early MK5's (where you also lost the black headlining) but they did away with it and it's been any colour you like ever since so long as it's black.

Shame really coz most GTI/D colours would look immense with red leather seats.

TBH, if you want leather, it's probably best to go after market anyway. VW will force you down the plain black route for a whopping £1,675.00, and the leather isn't exactly what I would call superb quality (well if my MK5 Golf was anything to go by anyway).
Going after market with a UK reputable re-trimming company not only gives you an infinite pallet of colours to choose from, but also options like perforated leather, leather / alcantera mix etc, and when I investigated doing this for my Scirocco, it also worked out cheaper than the factory option !

never really thought of it like that.

I've never done it, but my brother has in his various Range Rovers - he's had (even) fancier leather put in and tv's in the back and they are at a fraction of what a factory order would be costwise.

Only thing that would deter me from that is the upholsterer needing to take the seats out, remove door cards, etc, and the likelihood or not of interior trim getting marked or broken, rattles developing, etc. But if they are reputable, I'm sure they'd know to be careful!

These guys are experts, and if you use the right one they do a decent job ie. you'd never know they were after market jobs.

Just be careful as far as colour is concerned... what you think looks great may make your car difficult to sell at a later date. I saw a used BMW M6 in a dealership a few years ago with what could, diplomatically, be described as an eclectic factory special interior colour scheme... They'd had it 4 months, reduced it by, if I remember correctly, by £10K and the sales guy was telling me they were going to have to move it on through the trade...
Also, a re-upholstered car - even in a tasteful colour - may well reduce your target market because, no matter whether you think it is reasonable or not, some people will walk away or be suspicious of a car that has been re-upholstered.

Surely it would've cost quite a bit less just to re upholster it to something easier to sell?

They obviously din't think like that... and besides... it wasn't just the upholstery...

That reminds me of when BMW introduced Estoril Blue, Dakar Yellow, and Techno Violet for the M3.
Estoril Blue was massively popular now available on all BMW's I think. Dakar Yellow & Techno Violet cars sat around on forecourts forever. Huge discounts to get rid of them, nightmare to ever try and sell. I didn't think the yellow was so bad, but the Techno Violet

I know this thread is a little old but does anyone have a car with leather yet ? I was thinking of a SR but today I saw a gti with leather and it looked great ( I know about the stitching ).
I'm just wondering about how it will fare in the long term ie sagging, cracking etc
My gtd with leathers will be here on wed. I will post some pics if and wen I get it.

Excellent. Thanks very much :)
There is a pic of the leathers, somewhat poor quality, in the new ride thread.
