Hello all.....
Please don't think I am daft, and I don't own a VW so sorry if intruding a little premature, but looking for some advice...
I want to buy a decent Golf, and I have no idea where to start!!!! Never owned one before and have up to about 10k to spend, what do you think I should look for, which are the ones to avoid etc...
Any help greatfully received!!

Hi Flower, welcome to the club/forum. With 10k you can buy yourself a wicked golf, really depends on what model you after? Is this going to be your primary car or second car? Once you have figured out the model you want, I am sure alot of people here will help you find one and what to look for.
Have a look at the different model sections Golf Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4 and MK5 and see which car you think you would like to get...

Thanks for the welcome....
I would love a Mk1 (My dad had one when I was really young, I don't remember it but he still talks about it now!!) Not sure how well they run these days now though....worried about the age thing, although I do see myself driving a classic..maybe...???
I don't know have come in search of inspiration really!!
:D
-
i would say mk 1 or mk 2 are the way forward but each to there own, as madone says have a look through the sections on each car and see wot u fancy, good luck
-
10k will get you a fully loaded, low mileage 2002 mk4 GTI Turbo
(and welcome to the forum)
-
Rather see a nice mk1 with 8k *tastefully* thrown at it!
Welcome btw
-
Howdy!!
Each one has its own charm and appeal, best bet is to test drive each one if you can to see what you like and what you want out of it.
10K is a fair budget so you're likely to find a good one!!! Wish i had 10K.........
-
Well its not actually my 10k......
Its a company car budget...never had a company car before and have simply been told the packeg gives me £10k to spend, I robably wont be getting the Mk1 I want, but we shall see......
Have managed to worry myself now...what ifthey wont let me have one?!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Deep breathing, must stay calm......
(You would never guess that I havn't bought a car before would you?!)
-
mk4 it is then oh well could be worse could be a
barge mk3
-
10K is a pretty stingy company budget.....
Well in that case I'd suggest a Mk 4 1.8T with all the mod cons and if you got any spare cash get it Revo'd!!!
-
Revo'd???
Sorry...talking to a damb girl here!!
:embarassed:
-
lol...

Welcome to the forum
-
How about a New South African mk1  :lipsrsealed:
Oh and Hello Flower or sould we call you ' PETAL'
-
Revo'd = MORE POWER + MORE FUN!!
Its basically increasing the car's power so you go faster and have more power for overtaking!!
-
Does your company stipulate if the car has to be new for 10K or can it be second hand ? If it has to be new then your Golf choices are a non starter and the only option I can see would be one of the South African mk1s. If it doesn't have to be new then that's a good budget to get a nice golf, you then need to decide what you need it for, e.g. if you travel a lot of miles then a diesel would be a sensible choice etc.  :undecided:
Revo'd means that a tuning company changes the cars computer brain by re-mapping it so that it can go faster !   So buy one up to 9k and spend the other 1k on a revo remap and a shiney new exhaust !
Oh yeah, and welcome to the forum.
-
Velcome to ze forum Flower.
Like they ^^^^^^^ all say 10k will buy a nice 2nd hand mk4 with all mod cons and they're good for motorway bashing as well especially the TDI versions!
Best thing to do is to have a look around Ebay, Autotrader etc and see if anything catches your eye then ask us lot what we think we may beat around the bush a bit but we're a friendly bunch really!
-
Yes find out the age limit on the car and what mileage you are expected to do. Then decide.
Welcome.
Full of ideas this lot round here, dont be afraid to ask!
-
I got my new company car, (from the perosn I am replacing....)
Its a Focus something or other
so guess I wont be hanging around here any more....nice to meet you all, have fun in your cool cars!!
-
Aww - gutted!!!!
Can't you get rid of the Focus??
Argue that a Golf will last way longer and be cheaper to run than the Ford s**t!!!
-
:laugh
-
I don't know if it's still applicable, but my old manager had a Triumph TR3 as a company car, apparenly it was all good things for the company as there are tax reliefs for old cars  but they have to be fairly old, so you are looking at an original Mk1 probably
Also the resale on an older car is better, for example I don't really see me loosing too much on my Mk2 and Mk1 prices are going up (and rightly so, they are lovely :) )

Exactly and It'll give the company a far more classier/quality image ( type thingy  )
And in anycase stick around " Flower " as we can tell that your hearts in the right place
Just don't bring that bloody Ford Fu**ass to any meet !!!!!!! ( I'm Only kiddin    )

Keep the company car to rack up the millage on since the company are paying for it.
Then get yourself a nice Mk1 or Mk2 for weekend fun.
