Title: Footwell light whilst driving
Post by: Gaz2559 on 26 August 2013, 14:30
Hi.

I have a 2009 gt tdi with luxury and convenience pack. Is it possible to have the footwell lights on whilst driving?  My mate has a 2011 gtd and his footwell lights are on whilst driving.

Amy help would be appreciate cheers!

It's altered by the multi function computer on the GTD and GTi but not sure about the GT? Have you had a play about with these settings?

I have yeah, upped it to 100% but not sure if that's just for when the doors open. I will check what it says on the options and let you know. Seems weird that only Gtis and gtd can do it tho!?

Yeah, it's a GT. The footwell lights come on with the ignition.

Ah yes the signature, stupid me!

Just checked the MFD and footwell lights are on at 100% but nothing when driving. I think I may need a dash update from VW? If I can be bothered that is!

Does ur Gt show you your tyre pressure, or does it just indicate when it is below a certain PSi? Just wondering as my boss has a new passat and his systems states the pressure on each tyre. I thought mine had that but believe I just have a warning indicator? Again not essential, just would like things to work if I have them.

Cheers.

My Golf just has a TPMS warning light in the dash and a reset button in the glovebox. It's a bit half assed really as is works on wheels speed sensors. If a tyre deflates, its overall rolling radius reduces, therefore the wheel speeds up to keep up with the other 3.

I also have a 2011 Passat, and that has a "proper" tyre pressure monitoring with sensors in each tyre valve and a live data display on the instrument cluster.

Going back on my earlier statement, the footwell lights come on at 100% brightness with the interior lights, then dim down to the preset brightness when the ignition is turned on.

Just turn on in Vag-Com to be on all the time use Terminal 58 i think. So i have my red LED set to 90% when driving, looks nice.

Spot on, terminal 58 it was on the vcds.  Massive thumbs up to Chris from Sunderland for doing this, top bloke. Interior lights now replaced with white LED's and footwell looks so much better than the standard bulbs!

Uh..stupid question time... Why do you footwell lights on whilst driving? Do you have nice shoes or something?

It's ambient lighting. It's surprising how gloomy my Passat seems inside without them compared to my Golf.

I have them set at 30% which I think is nice and subtle. They come on at full brightness with the interior lights, but dim down when driving.

I got a lift off my mate in his GTD and when driving noticed his footwell lights were on and I liked it, hence wondered why mine didn't stay on. It's a nice ambient light, not necessary I know but nice all the same. Personal preference I guess!

When you all talk about the footwell lights being on all the time whilst driving, do you mean just when your headlights are on (doors closed), or on regardless of headlights being on?

The footwell lights can be enabled/disabled in the mfd, you don't need vagcom/vcds.

In my MFD, it's in Lights & Vision menu - Footwell Lights.  Mine are on all the time when driving (with dipped beam headlights on).  Also thinking of swapping to red LEDs.

Some peoples are not enabled from factory. So you enable them using VCDS and then switch them on using the MFD

Is this enabled through comfort to enable in the mfd? Or does it need enabling via vag com vcds to allow me to acces via mfd?

If it's not in the MFD, it'll need enabling via VCDS

They don't need to be LEDs, normal red bulbs will be perfectly adequate.

True, but it's just as easy to get red LEDs

Hmm, who knows?  Very confusing.

I haven't got any 'packs' over the standard and I've got it!    Have got xenons though.

Mine isn't showing in the MFD.

How do you do it with VAGCOM? I will have a trip to my local VW indy soon
