Hi Everyone,
Had a stage 2 revo map done today on my GTI, its a 2010 model with 34k miles.
The map gave me 288.6bhp and 350ftlbs of torque.
Im not making the car work hard by putting my foot down hard in a high gear to get it shifting, and havnt even tried to launch it from a standing start. But after just coming home from a friends i changed from 2nd to 3rd at about 45mph and put my foot down and the revs shot up straight away. Realised the clutch had slipped, so on the next road i went through the gears pretty hard reaching 6.5k revs each time and it didnt slip.
So my question is to you guys who have had there cars mapped is have to had you clutch slipping this early on??
The REVO map dosnt have any spikes and my boost is set to 1.5 bar. Maybe ive given the clutch too hard of a life since ive owned it from 17k miles?
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks
Luke

did the car run Stage 1 before hand and if so for how long

Mine never slipped going through the gears, but would slip in 4th/5th or 6th if you were on the motorway trying to accelerate hard.
The Revo map has a huge amount of torque as your dyno run has proven and this mullers the oem clutch.
Since having the car put back to standard my car drives perfectly without any clutch slip in any gears.
I had planned to fit a Helix Organic Clutch plate, but never got round to it.

Mine is a 2012 Gti and I'm running a Revo stage 1 map. This was put on at 10k and now on 16k. Soon after I had the map I had clutch slip when I really boot it. I use the gears correctly and try not to put the power in till around 3500rpm.
Mine is similar to yours, sometimes it slips and sometimes not, can't understand it lol. But when it slips, it slips and that's it then, clutch is too hot. The dyno readings I had was 279bhp and over 300 ins of torque.
I'm having a Sachs road/race clutch fitted in a couple of weeks so I can use all the power  I'm having the kit to use the stock flywheel.
I did approach Revo about the issue and said it should not slip, it's a dealer issue. I gave up thus buying the Sachs option. It's sat in the dining room waiting to be fitted

How much is the sachs clutch? Fancy sending me a link please, don't fancy taking the risk of screwing this clutch all together!! Thanks

I had the uprated drive plate and pressure plate delivered for £520. Vag tech supplied me.

288bhp and 350 torque is on the high end figure for stage 2 on a standard GTI (not ed35 or R)
People say REVO are great. and i agree if you have all the extra components to go with. I thought normal GTI runs around 260-270 at stage 2 and around 320-330 torque.
No wonder its slipping.

Seen plenty of clutch slipping on Revo and APR cars at Stage 2 on manuals, I ended up running an updated Sachs on my rocco after 30k, the IHI just gives shed loads of torque low down the rev range and you end up riding the torque curve rather than the peak power
Can't believe the dealer in question didn't notice this or say something as they can adjust the boost, mine long ever slipped in 5th and 6th
Interesting response from Revo as their rocco slipped at Stage 2 and runs a Sachs clutch
My view is most tuners need to review their tsi maps like they have for K04 cars
-
Jeez, £500 odd for a new clutch before fitting on top of the price already paid for the remap. This is turning into an expensive job. I hope it's worth it.

It seems tuner are just trying to give customers peak numbers rather than driveability.
I know people say Superchips Bluefin is just a generic map, but at least they put how it drive first and doesnt make you need to buy new parts.
Revo tune is great - juts need to spend that little more - sure it will be worth it though mate
-
Mine lasted less then 48hours after stage 2, The standard one isn't up to the job
But yes its worth it, A stage 2 will destroy most cars on the road,
-
Mine still seems to be okay, since the mishap on the first day, still going to get one purchased soon though, which one did you get jdjd if you dont mind me asking?

got my gti remapped revo stage 1 clutch started slipping bout a month later dealer wasnt interesed got a loba motorsport stage2 clutch fitted transformed the car at least you can use all the power standard clutch not up to the job
-
Be interesting to know if the Mk7 GTI standard clutch will fit a mk6 as the mk7 I would suspect is uprated due to the torque.

How much was it in total to have this done?
Really want to go stage 1 but just can't afford a clutch right now and this is putting me off.

Hey up Jimmy,
If you want a safe map that wont cause any slip then Bluefin Stage 1 Map is great.
On a side note - I think i am selling my Bluefin device that is fully reset, as im going to stage 2 very soon, so that is an option for you. Will do a you a deal seen as you are very local to me
-
loba motorsport stage2 clutchkit which consists of lightened balanced flywheel, clutchplate, pressureplate and thrust bearing fitted was 1400 pounds got the work done at Autohouse Edinburgh the best garage i have ever used by a mile

My thinking has been with Bluefin for that very reason. I could be tempted but Iv'e just forked out a bit on repairs. Drop me a PM with the finer details and I'll have a think about it.

so you go Bluefin as you are worried and then decide to go Stage 2 with A.N.Other tuner, i'm assuming you a resigned to a new clutch in the future?

its not just the clutch thats the problem the standard flywheel [dualmass] is also a weakness thats why loba motorsport supply a one piece lightened balanced one ,yeah it was a bit pricey but i know i can go to stage3 and the clutch can handle the extra bhp and tourque and its the torque that will kill the clutch
