Guys those of you have collected your GTIs is the only audio cable provided a USB version? Should I keep the 30 IPhone connector from my Scirocco while I wait for the Lightening connector to be released?
-
No you should get USB aswell as iPod leads
-
Opposite for me. I was given two iPhone connections
-
Two iPhone connections and no USB lead Graig?

Yes that's right. The dealer was also surprised that it was two I phone connections. Must have been a mistake. I'm going back in to pick up some touch up paint this week so ill ask him about it. I'm sure he would be able to get me a USB cable no problem.
-

can we quote you on that George?
-
I quite like having a USB cable for use with my large capacity memory stick. I must check that at delivery time...
-
My dealer originally said you only get the iPhone/Pod lead and the USB lead you had to order as an extra. This was a couple of months ago, so don't know if it has changed since then. Got both leads with my Mk6, so really it should be the same with the 7.
-
George knows what should come with these so if he says you get both that's what you should expect. I'll be expecting them both anyway
-
I'll keep mine from my Scirocco, just in case.
-
Since returning to work after holiday have found out that only a iPod lead is supplied and no USB lead as there is a SD card slot in glovebox
-
Will be keeping my USB lead from my Scirocco then.

another f4ck up from VW! not everyone has an iPhone so why don't they give you a choice of cables. iPhone cable is no good to me so I'll be asking to swap it for a USB one.
-
The other leads are listed in the VW accessories brochure for about £25-£40 I think....

It does seem daft to offer up the brand specific Apple lead and not the universal USB lead that every other non-apple device uses.

Yeah for sure, especially when Android phones have a bigger market share and all come with Micro USB connectors.
-
These leads probably cost peanuts. Just go in and ask for a free one

You say that but the lead only supports iPhones up to the 4s - so those of us with 5's have been bum f7cked as well as I had to shell out £25 for a lightning adaptor.
-
the iPhone lead that comes with the red collar is the one that works with the new iPhone or is it the black collar I can't remember. I doubt asking for a free USB cable will happen if they are listed at 35 quid.
-
So this "USB" lead people say they are missing... Is this connection point in the glove box and is it some kind of weird format port and this cable converts that into a female USB connection??
-
it's exactly the same as the iPhone cable except is has a micro USB end

The connection point is in the concealed compartment behind the gear stick
-
Ahh right ok thanks. So is the port some weird connector and you need a cable off vw to make it a usb connection?

Yes mate, it has VW's "media in" connection at one end and a female USB connection at the other.
-
Thanks jimble.
So theyre giving iphone / ipod adapters out? Urgh why. If they give the usb one it covers all bases including iphone. Cant you request the other? If not where the heck do you get the usb cable from lol. 28k car and no cable
-
Sorry to raise this one again but does anyone have the usb cable connector with their car or where can you get one in place of the ipod one?
-
I asked my dealer about the cables last week he stated I would receive a USB connector..
-
Mine came with the standard 30pin iPhone/iPod lead which is great as i have an iPhone 5...
Needless to say i asked for a standard USB cable and received one with no problems. So now i have both!

Can you not just connect the iPhone 5 via Bluetooth Audio? Is it easy? Have you tried?

This is exactly what i do. However it would have been good for charging. Not a problem now the dealer has supplied the USB lead too.

Thats good to hear. Does it play quickly and smoothly from your iPhone 5?

The phone function works perfectly. The audio quality is fantastic, however for some strange reason i have no control over the audio functions apart from the volume via bluetooth. To select an artist/playlist i have to select it on the iPhone itself. I have read other people have had this issue with other bluetooth ICE.

Can you not scroll through tracks using the buttons on the steering wheel?

I can do that yes. But that is about it. It will only control the current album/playlist/artist you can't choose to listen to another artist for example. You have to manually select it on the phone first. Most frustrating.

Has anyone heard anything further on the availability of a lightning connector? Seems to be taking ages.
I'm going to get an iPhone 5S as soon as they go on sale and would be nice to be able to charge it and use it for music without having to revert to bluetooth audio. I really depend on the car for charging the phone as I use it for Navigation as well.

Is your flux capacitor broken? I don’t think the GTIs and GTDs need 1.21 Gigawatts.

The car will definitely charge the phone, but until VW supply a lead for iPhones 5 and upwards you'll need the lightning adaptor - £25 in the Apple store.

Or you could ask the dealer to supply a standard USB adapter and then use the USB cable supplied with your iPhone to charge it.

In my Scirocco using the usb does not allow music to be played through media in.
Also when I use the lightning adaptor on the normal lead it allows me to play music but for some reason charging is slow at best.
most frustrating
Can anyone confirm what happens in the GTI?

Can't say about that, haven't got mine yet, but my current polo GTI has the same issue, can't play audio through the USB cable connected via the lighting cable on my iphone 5, only works with the old 30 pin cable and using the apple lighting connector

Sorry to raise this again, but has anyone solved the issue with regard to changing album, artist etc through Bluetooth connectivity? I think its crazy to have change the album on the actual phone. When I attempt to change anything through the centre console I just get the message "Bluetooth audio device, no track list available" . Driving me up the wall now!
-
Nope this is still driving me round the bend too! I have the same issue with the bluetooth on the iPod nano.
J
-
This is driving me nuts also

Hi Guys,
Anyone know if you just use the standard MDI USB lead, and plug in the iPhone lightning USB cable, does this charge and play music, or does it not recognize it?
Alternatively, has anyone got a legit VW Lightning cable?
On the build week 45 cars these were coming as standard, but no VW dealers I've spoken to seem to think they can order them separate.
