There's an Audi 80 cabriolet for sale on eBay, it's a 2.0 8V and it's had a turbo conversion done to it.
The turbo kit can be used on an 8V GTI, the engine layout is the same, but it's turned in the Audi. That's all.
Item number: 281151107236
Buy the Audi, take the turbo kit off, scrap the Audi. Win win situation.
-
All that work and its still just in front of a ABF
-
Exactly
-
yh but then you'll be different form all the sheep in their valvers....... yes, I also was a sheep
-
All that work and its still just in front of a ABF
Quiet fancy an abf myself  :lipsrsealed:
-
Get one. With a few mods they are quite nippy
-
nippy yes, fast no. i need a spinning snail in my life.
-
The abf aint all that. The power is sluggy only thing that will sort that out will be a light flywheel. Unfortunally hotgolf has stopped lightening them
I drove ma cazanz abf and it didnt feel all that :undecided:
-
Yeah Abf without lightened flywheel is pants tbh
-

150 BHP ABF which is naturally aspirated vs an 8V GTI which has turbo?
We all know which would be faster.
But like murraymint has said, it's something different.

Different yes but still pointless, think about how much that conversion was new against a 16v version
Also I doubt that it would fit a golf without a lot of work.
-
Who is this hotgolf?
And I have a lightened flywheel.
-
Well worth doing just for the fun of it, sticking a light fly wheel and a cold air feed on an ABF is just as pointless as any 8v mod.....
-
Well worth doing just for the fun of it,
Amen.

Not at all. The difference in response is very noticeable with a lightened and balanced flywheel. Best mod I have done so far.

Bet its really fast now and you eat scoobys all day.......
-
Put it this way, it's a hell of a lot quicker on acceleration then it was without. Unless you dont have pulse you wont notice it. Like I said and many who have HAD it done it is not a pointless mod. A lot cheaper then turboing an 8v

Erm no you cant eat a scooby in a bloody mk3. Wow some people....
Its fun.
And yes as my man says it revs realy quickly compares to standard flywheel.

Erm sarcasm.....
And yes revs really quickly
Does my Mk3 still get raped by my brothers van, every time
Ju571n was clearly wasting his time on his 8v as well
Those who HAVE built an engine will tell you its not pointless, 24 16 or 8 valves. You learn something and have fun doing it
-
I wonder if I ever get round to fitting my flywheel on mine before I decide to change car? :lipsrsealed:
-
Just fit Mr Thai. You will be happy
-
Time and money. :undecided:

Faster reving means getting to speed quicker. I have eaten a tdi mk3 (you know who you are!!!) not only his but other cars too. You can be suprised what these 8v are capable of

Haha even at that you still sheeeet!! F*cking with ya. Trust if you been in a car with a lightened flywheel it makes a huge difference.

-
Point was "its not worth putting a turbo on an 8v" I'm saying there is more point if any cos you will get 160 bhp lots of torque and more oompf than a light fly.
I bet you could buy that Audi strip it out and get most of you money back selling it on and turbo an 8v having a blast doing it.
You aint going to make a Mk3 fast with much less than 180bhp and a decent hike in torque, every thing else just makes it feel faster.
-
The lightened flywheel only costs £150 all in with fitting. Compare that with cost and hassle of the turbo.

It would be fun doing something differe mate. I aint seen any turbo'ed mk3 8v
-
That's because all people do is talk about it or encourage people to do it but would never consider wasting their money
themselves lol
-
You stil would need another gearbox as the 8v one will blow up
-
I'm going to tell the teacher

Stop it! ,it hurting my eyes!

Anyway Mr Bush. What is it like with a 3.94Fd ad I want to do that to mine?

Anyway Mr Bush. What is it like with a 3.94Fd ad I want to do that to mine?
Seeing as you asked so nicely
I'm a bit 50/50 on it atm I had the box rebuilt last autumn after a diff explosion.
Its good in the sense that I am faster off the mark and feels like 20 bhp with the fly but the 8v runs out of puff at just under 6k.
Its great up to the point the 8v hits the limit when the car starts to feel like its kangerooing, you can only polish a turd so much
The daily commute is driving around in second and therefore very annoying.
I would expect an extra 8 valves would be a slightly better scenario as the extra low down pick up would be a benefit and would not lose out too much in the top end trade off.
I do like the extra pep i get in the country lanes, with 8 more valves this could be more fun
-
Just so bloody expensive to get done. You had your head P&P?
-
Heads been off but was only polished with a mop when i fitted new valves, it is matched to the manifolds though and flowed right through to the maf housing.
