Ooh 7 steps instead of 5. Would be interested to know what the new stages are

Mine is no longer recognised so I'm guessing there may be a few teething troubles.
mines just worked there, they've added an extra step "with the factory". my order is on this now. im guessing they've changed this so people feel their car is progressing when its not
-
Nice find. Unfortunately the mother f7cking thing still says BW confirmed & not Build in Progress like it should be.

Same here!
Your order is with the factory and is currently being scheduled for production.
The other new step is build in progress

Not working for me on the iPad, telling me to check back in a few days.

I'm looking at it on an iPad Dave! The pictures change whichever way you hold the pad which is quite cool - but it's still the wrong picture
-
My order is with the factory as well , maybe they built a new factory to store all the orders
Until they get round to building them
-

me to, but it does say being built in week commencing 11/08/2013 so there is still hope

Mine too. On the plus side I was productive today, grouting the kitchen floor tiles - 2 years after I laid the tiles.
-
Just started working for me and like you, no change in the status. I've got projected bw36 so was hoping to see something happening this week. Just did a configure on an UP and realised I could buy 3 for the price of the GTI. I'm sure I would not have to wait so long either. Still, my Polo GTI is still a great car.
-
Nice find! At least it now shows when the build is due to take place. Fortunately mine shows this coming Sunday!

My first visit to it was via my iPad, but the it has been a while since I've visited the page on it so may have dumped the cache.
-
Nice one, on this new one mine says Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 01/09/2013
-
Still showing as BW commencing 18/08. Get in. I phone won't let me upload a pic.

That's pretty damn fast if we use VW time.
-
Hang on a minute. VW told me I'm confirmed BW37 today but this tracker whatsit thingy says "with the factory"
I feel like calling them and just shouting down the phone "WHEN WILL THE LIES END!" But I'm tired and it would be an international call... so I won't.
EDIT:
I noticed one of the FAQs is "tell me an interesting VW fact". I bet the members of this forum could come up with some 'interesting' facts!
-
I expected more from the new web site.
'Your order has been confirmed for production week commencing 11/08/2013' it tells me. I'm dreaming the paint might be drying Monday morning.
However, no one from my dealer can explain why it takes 4, yes 4, weeks to get the bloody car from the factory door. I could be there by start of their morning shift at 6am this morning if I left now. Ucking jokers! I reckon they employ a sales strategy who is secretly and mental psychologist ?
Waiting sucks .......
-
JJH, 4 is the minimum. It's actually 4-6 but they tend to quote 4 because they know we're pissed as it is.

My dad's car took less than 2 weeks, with some help from the dealership. Past experience has shown that it takes 7 - 10 days to get to the UK once it is finished (it's a 24 hour voyage to Sheerness/Port of Tyne, but it generally sits at Emden a week waiting for a ship), and the rest is at dockside in the UK, waiting for VW to deliver it to the dealership. If you're close to the recieving dock, as I am then perhaps the dealer can pull a few strings to get it picked up.
-
Mine also....

Does anyone else's say.....
Upholstery - Titan Black????
Didn't even know that was an option, thought it was either leather or the tartan?

Yes, that's the Tartan and Black Interior, it's the same for everybody with the cloth seats.

Cool thanks - just thought it seemed a bit strange to have it called Jacara Grey elsewhere?

Yeah, it was the first thing my dealer pointed out to me on my order form actually. Not sure why there is a difference in name, but no matter, it'll be right!

Is Titan black the cloth or the leather. I have paid for leather and it says Titan black

I think Titan Black must be the colour of the interior dash.

I think Titan Black must be the colour of the interior dash.
Lets fudging well hope it is. The tracker says upholstery..... Make of that what you will.
My first new car purchase isn't as nice as I expected it to be.
-

Probably best to check it out IMO

Remember this is VW we are talking about here - might make nice cars, but their admin and customer service seems to be somewhat lacking!
-

I asked the dealer and I quote:
I was just having a look at the tracker it is showing my interior As Titan Black as opposed to Vienna leather.
They are both one of the same thing right?
and this is what he said:
Yes, the only colour option on our ordering system for leather available to order is Black Vienna Leather
That doesn't answer the question. But if its wrong Heads will roll.
-
Has the new tracker gone down for anyone else?
-
Nope
-
It's probably struggling with the weight of GTI/D users constantly hitting refresh
-
Nope, working for me. They must be updating yours Jimble, so that when you refresh it sets it to back to "With the factory" ;)
J/K, what a nightmare that would be!
-
There can also be delays on the Factory -> Emden transit leg. Mine has been stuck at that stage for over 3 weeks now. I was a BW28 and not likely to get my car until well into September.

I'm week 33, says build week confirmed still and not in production as I'd expect??
But does say scheduled for build commencing 11th August.. So hopefully just not updated!!
-
Anyone else get an online survey pop up when visiting the new tracker? Your opinion matters!
-
All GTI/Ds get the same trim of Titan black. It's not referring to the seats so don't worry.
-

With a delay like that between Wolfsburg and Emden, i'd be worried that it might've had a prang and been sent back for repairs. My dad's was Emden dockside a day after sign off at the factory (and sat there a week or so).
-
I'm hoping it's due to my car being completed late (during shutdown) and there simply being no transport to Emden during the period after build. But your theory about transit damage had crossed my mind and I'll certainly be worried if status doesn't change in the next few days now the BW32's are coming through...

If that image of the factory is representative of the real thing then no wonder build dates are taking so long. They're probably still making cart wheels in there.

Says to check back in a few days for me – wonder whether that pre-live tracker address is working (what is it again?).
Pauliem: Tracker progress – were you hopeful or expectant? My “Build Week Commencing 12th Aug” order hasn’t even started being built yet despite the tracker saying “build in progress” – they seem to be a good 2 weeks behind right now. Expect it to default to “build in progress” on Sunday morning even if they haven’t started it by that point – the joys of VW pre-ownership.
-
Live tracker gives me the same message as physio (after I've entered my order number)
Pre-live environment says connection refused, same error their main site was giving out hours ago, suspect thats the same for everyone

Doesn't feel you with confidence does it ?
If VW can't get a piddly bit of code sorted out by now, without it falling over and crashing every 5 minutes, what hope have we got that a) the car gets build to the correct spec, b) the car gets built when it's supposed to and c) that it gets shipped to the correct dealer or country for that matter !
Let's hope the software tech who's responsible for VW Wolfsburg's CRM and SAP software, isn't the same joker who's coded the VW UK website and it's tracker.

I was hopeful and expectant! At least your tracker said "Build in Progress", mine is still on build week confirmed even though it has passed the date by a few days. If it is not built and shipped by the end of the month, I think I will do something drastic! My patience is finished.
-
It is working again now anyway - no updates for me :undecided:

Still down for me. contacted dealer asked if he could find out anything considering I had build week confirmed for this week.
He said all he can say is that it will go to build this week and he hopes to have a further update for me by the weekend.
All a big bag of bs
-
They are probably changing "build week" to "build Fortnight" and adding a disclaimer saying it's not late until a month after the stated "build Fortnight".
-
In order to improve their accuracy statistics, I have heard for GTD's they are changing the term to build years.

What build week were you norbeck?
I thought he was BW33.
Do you trust what it is telling you Norbreck? Mine still says build in progress (probably not started yet).
-
Yes BW 33. Normally no, but yesterday had a surprise call from VW customer services to tell me that my car had been built, and was due to arrive in Emden on Friday. They "apparently" were going to try and prioritise getting my car on a boat for next Wednesday or Thursday (that part I don't believe), but in any case, shortly afterwards, my tracker changed !
Who really knows. When it's in front of me at the dealers, I'll believe it  Oh, and they confirmed 100% that they had checked and my car was built with the rear view camera - happy days.
-
Still baffles me how some bw33 are done and getting rushed on a ship ans others not even started yet lol. At least yours on the way, one less to suffer the vw madness
Wonder when others in bw33 who are yet to be started will get the priority treatment.
-
I do wonder whether builds are prioritised due to expected shipping. I have noticed that for the first time in ages, there is a huge gap in the Emden to Port of Tyne (my car is planned to be shipped to port of Tyne)scheduled runs. There hasn’t been a ship from Emden in well over a week, and looking forward to 28 Aug 13 (as far as it will let you go), the schedule shows no further expected shipping trips between the 2 ports.
From the point of view of getting my car built and to destination, there’s nowt spoiling – it would be sitting dockside for the best part of 2 weeks if it had been built at the start of BW33. I wonder if VW have taken this into account when putting off my BW33 built to what is likely to be early BW35? Could I believe they are that well organised to take the lack of shipping into consideration?
Perhaps the demand for new plate delivery has mainly been fulfilled (the cars are now with the dealers, or at least in the hands of VW UK at portside) and there aren’t enough cars left to ship that would justify a Emden to Tyne direct sailing. Perhaps I should be looking for ships going to Sheerness from Emden and then going to Tyne from Sheerness.
-
Wow, you've given this some thought haven't you bud
-
Fantastic news Norbreck, great to see real progress on orders at last! :) I didn't think I'd need to, but it's looking like I'll need to ask my dealer to hold onto the car a few days before registering on 2nd September (will probably get to them early next week). Just recently I've started re-reading a few reviews, looking at pictures and watching a few videos again - definitely starting to build that excitement that was temporarily lost in all of the chaos!
-
If mine arrives before then I'm not waiting a single extra day, stuff the new plate!
Finding the closer it gets to arriving the more unbearable the wait is becoming...
-
What build week were you norbeck?

Do you trust what it is telling you Norbreck? Mine still says build in progress (probably not started yet).
Great news Norbreck! I'm with MH - still building (my ar7e).
How did you get it prioritised Norbreck?
-
Wow, you've given this some thought haven't you bud
What else is there to do when waiting for the car that was going to be here late June? Might write a factual complaint letter to head of VW UK to try and shame him into some goodwill – that’ll pass some time.
-

Haha, even worse then, a private plate is going onto it from day one so people won't even know it's effectively a 63 plate car! But, I will, and I'm a little bit weird with stuff like that!
Oh, and I'm the opposite, finding the closer it gets, the easier the wait becomes! I guess me asking for a particular date means I'm somewhat in control of things for a change.

Great news Norbreck! I'm with MH - still building (my ar7e).
How did you get it prioritised Norbreck?
Well, bit of a story. Back in April I actually ordered 2 cars- my GTD and the Wife's new Polo Blue GT. Originally both were scheduled for collection at the same time (end of June / early July) - obviously, I was quite innocent then and actually believed what VW told me. I'm now a lot wiser and more cynical
Although a couple of days after ordering, the wife's car appeared on the tracker, mine hadn't. A few calls over the next few weeks to the dealer and VW both ended with the same result - "don't panic, it's quite normal, and yes we can confirm the car has been accepted in Wolfsburg and is working it's way through the order system".
Then about 4 weeks after ordering (and still no sign on the tracker, not even a "processing your order"), I started to read about issues with Lane assist and incompatibilities with the GTI / GTD models - which, naturally I had ordered with my car, and the VW order system had allowed without complaining. Fearing the reason why my car hadn't appeared on the tracking system was that it was an impossible combination for VW, I range again the dealer and VWCS, and was 3 times assured that everything was OK and the talk on the forums was just idle gossip and my car was progressing nicely. Then out of the blue (whilst I was actually in Germany on a business trip), some 7 weeks after initial order, I received a sheepish call from VWCS to say that they had been informed that after all lane assist was an issue and needed to be taken off. Needless to say I was not amused.
It was then not surprising that as soon as lane assist was removed, the very next day my car went to "processing your order". I again called VWCS and asked if due to their incompetence, I had now lost 7 weeks of my order, to which I was told, it gets worse, we have just been informed that the car has an estimated build week on Week 44 (WC 28th October), which would have meant a late November or early December delivery.
It was quite a simple decision for me then and I told the VWCS representative, that as soon as I put the phone down on them, I would call the dealer and cancel not only my car, but the wife's as well (nearly £55k worth of cars). Well this seemed to do the trick as over the next week or so I had a flurry of communications ended up with a promised build week improvement of Week 33. I had the dealer agree in writing (underwritten by VW UK), that I would take my wife's car (which arrived on time late June), but that if my car didn't arrive at sometime in September, it would be cancelled and they would owe me a substantial financial penalty - very reluctantly they agreed. Oh, and also, I laid heavily on the fact that these were our 5 and 6th VW's, and if we were let down, we would never again step foot inside a VW dealership, and would never again own a VAG product (whether this had any real affect or not, I don't know).
So, I'm guess they are trying their best to ensure the car arrives in September to avoid the "penalties". But like I said, this could all be bullsh1t, and until the car is in front of me, I can't get overly excited.

Monkeyhanger - Maybe ours will come together?

Monkeyhanger - Maybe ours will come together?
Aye, BW44. Seems to be the red BW33ers that still haven't been built - we've had 2 white ones built now, is that right? Norbreack and someone who got theirs built at the start of BW33 (can't remember who - sorry).

You might be onto something there Bud. My confirmed BW32 Order (although I'm guessing it was actually built in week33) went into transit last Thursday (15th August). I've been keeping a close eye on the vehicle carrier shipping out of Emden and all of a sudden there are three ships leaving for Sheerness within a day of each other this week.... I'm hoping mine is on one of them.
So maybe you are right. Maybe they're working the build schedules around the shipping schedules??? (Or am I just clutching at straws?)
-
Clearly they've run out of TR - f7cking cheers.
-
Isn't the whole point of the 4 weeks confirmed before build etc etc to make sure they have all the stuff they need in time for a build? Sounds like one big farce to me, weeeeee along for the ride.
Absolutely hate waiting, but set my px in stone thankfully so I'm just sat on that, so thats helping to keep relative sanity
-
I think once the tracker says "In Transit" and changes from "This model is expected in 4 weeks etc" to "Your vehicle is on the next stage of its journey to the UK" that's when they've checked it on to the boat. Guessing this, but on Saturday mine said the first (dealer said it showed as still being in Wolfsburg), then changed on Sunday to the second which was followed by an email from the dealer on Monday saying it was showing as on the boat to Sheerness.
-
Tracker still down for me. Growing very anxious now build was due to commence this week. Can't deal with any more delays I think I will enter into full breakdown mode if that happens.
Going to give it till the weekend if no progress then mr Thomas will be getting an email from me.

Tracker still down for me. Growing very anxious now build was due to commence this week. Can't deal with any more delays I think I will enter into full breakdown mode if that happens.

Mr Thomas (or any of his office staff) hasn't replied to my email (not even an acknowledgement) sent around 11am yesterday morning, so I wouldn't hold me breath for a reply - I don't think he gives a sh!te while we keep buying GTIs and GTDs.

They make u want to punch summat.
What would be a good non VAG equivalent/alternative to seriously consider instead of the gtd.

120d? Its a tough one, to get powerful diesel + build quality + desirability and not go VAG.
Are you wedded to Diesel or would you consider petrol?

If Audi have their own ring-fenced supply of the 184PS 2.0TDI unit that VW cannot plunder, then the nearest equivalent to the GTD would be the A3 2.0TDI (184) S-line with comfort pack and a few other small options (which will make it about £2000 more than the GTD, but you get those amazing ½ leather S-line sports seats (that are worth a grand over the standard GTI/GTD cloth seats IMO). Audi also comes with 3 years breakdown cover instead of 1 – that’s got to be worth an extra £150. Only downside if you’re looking for practicality is that the 3 door version looks massively better than the 5 door version.
Because these shouldn’t be subject to allocation restrictions like the GTD, you might be more likely to get these within 4 months from order. If I was starting from scratch with what I know now, I would probably pick a 3 door A3 S-line 184 TDI if there was no indication of delays associated with the TDI unit.
BMW 120D is probably nearest equivalent, but not really a fan of the shape and you’d probably have to add on a fair few options to get it around GTD equipment levels (M135 has a lot of equipment that is associated with it being an “M”).

Does it? I dunno, personally I can't stand the 3 door version. Kinda looks to me like the back has its arse in the air. There are 3 door cars that look proper good, the A3 I think looks mediocre. I'll take the 5 door everytime. People often say it looks like an estate, but I like this version. I suspect there will be opinions on both sides here.
On BMW equipment levels:
Con - You got to add a lot of stuff to get it to the Golf level
Pro - Virtually everything you do add is better than the equivalent Golf
Con - Drives cost up fast!
Pro - BMW will likely discount it all anyway putting the costs back in line
Its tricky and almost apples and oranges. Because of BMW's kind of unique view of how cars should work the VW and Audi brands lack obvious competitors (Ford is lower price and quality). I think you might have to go to Merc. Or... if we discard the (German) view that German cars are better qulaity and more desirable there are a whole load of other brands that are frankly just as good. May not have the same image but does it matter? Its VW et al themselves who are largely responsible for the propoganda that you should be buying German. A totally biased view. If you want proof then look at what the Yanks think of German brands. A German car is often synonymous with unreliability in the US, because the US has different biases!
Ok I got a bit off topic there. My bad.

I like the 3 door but I also like the 5 door Sportback. Dull as fook to drive though, better off getting a beemer IMO.

You know you've just reminded me of something I said maybe 10 years ago (can't remember when to be honest) when I had a summer job driving cars around an auction lot. I left that job proclaiming that having driven so many different brands I knew which ones I liked.
Top of the list: Jaguar. But I can't afford one of them so...
Second place: The beemers. Especially the 3 series of which there were a fair few. I don't think the 1 was out then and not sure if they had any 7s.
Third place: The Golf GTI.
All the rest were one and the same basically. And actually I'd probably rate the GTI and the beemers about the same.

I buy German because not only do I like their products, they are relatively good value for money to run due to their high residuals (assuming you always chop in every 2-4 years). I like the Alfa Giulietta, and if it held its value like a Golf/120D/A3 I’d consider it – especially as it now comes with a 5 year warranty. Don’t agree with Mercs being good cars, in the main (at the low to mid end of the scale) they are flimsy, unrefined pieces of sh!te. Mercs resemble Chryslers in build now, rather than Chrysler resembling Merc.
Residuals are a big part of my considerations which will always put some potential cars out of consideration unless I’m not buying new.

That Alfa does look good. Never sat in one though.

My missus has one. They're not too bad, just not a patch on the German counterparts either inside the cabin nor to drive - and put it this way I wouldn't buy one with my own money (hers is a company car) - nice looking motors though!
