Title: Music to drive your mk7 to?
Post by: Chief1337 on 08 August 2013, 09:42
Starting a topic which doesn't talk about Build Weeks, Order Trackers, Reversing Camera Delays or Otherwise Specification related!

What music will you be listening to in your new GTi/GTD (or other MK7 variant)?

Keen to know what will really benefit from being played through the Dyaudio system I've spec'ed.

Personally a big fan of Above & Beyond, so anything that they've had involvement in!

A man after my own heart!  I love Above & Beyond, their tracks kick a$$!  Anything off the Anjunabeats label always goes down well - for eg. the first track I shall be testing on my Dynaudio is Isla Margarita by Sunny Lax.  If you haven't all ready got it, I can recommend Sirens of the Sea (Remixes) - some cracking tunes on there.  Can't beat a bit of trance/vocal trance/progressive trance!

My missus thinks I'm stuck in the 90's

Sirens of the sea! Love it! :-)

I have pretty much everything from them.

On a side note, the new Anjunabeat Volume 5 is pretty decent. Listening to it currently whilst at work.

In terms of finding some good driving music I often grab the "need for speed" soundtracks as they've done all the work for you!  You have to weed out a lot of the Hip Hop and Heavy Metal though... unless you're into that kind of thing. :undecided:

I've been toying with buying that - but I may hold off until I get my car so I can listen to a new album from the off!  Yeah, I've got loads of their stuff too - A&B been going for years and A&B are still producing some awesome stuff!  If you haven't all ready done so, their podcasts are excellent (Trance Around The World stuff).

You are the first person I have ever spoken to who that has not only listened to Sirens of the Sea but has actually heard of it!!

Hehe - massive fan of Oceanlab also, but A&B remixes are excellent.

Trance around the world (now called Group Therapy) - listen to that podcast every week, at least 2-3 times! ;-)

At the moment I'm listening to "Imagine Dragons - Night Vision", just an awesome album, all really good tracks.  Can't seem to bring myself to get it off repeat!  I listen to a lot of electronica, including melodic synth but also most sub-genres.

Hum driving music eh....

...I like so many different kinds of music it's difficult to know where to start. My tastes are quite eclectic.

If I'm angry and need a boost I'll play... Led Zepp, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Ryan Adams or Tame Impala

If I want/need to be calmed down and chill I might play... Royksopp, Alt-J, Lemon Jelly, Public Service Broadcasting or Apparat

Nice thread by the way*, everyone is getting so down and negative of late

* But will the mods allow this frivolous chatter?

Just to jump on the band wagon, I also absolutely love Above and Beyond, Anjunabeats, and Anjunadeep.  I will most likely be playing Something with a melodic heavy beat like Anjunadeep 05 or Andrew Bayers latest album to give the Dynaudio a workout.  May I also mention anything by Jaytech or Jody Wisternoff is absolute class.

I'll probably buy their three studio albums first, "Tri-state", "Sirens of the Sea" and "Group Therapy", just sampling tracks at the moment on Amazon.

Hey mcMaddy, I'm 40 so an even older fart!  Never heard of most names there either, but I love getting introduced to new music/artists!

Download a few episodes of the 'Group Therapy' Podcast from Above & Beyond - great listen and completely free! Always tend to have a guest remix as well etc.

Haha!  Only genres I'm not keen on are jazz, reggae, and country.  But, as ever it's not so black & white as you can get some good tracks in those genres too.  I constantly amaze my daughter with my knowledge of the music charts and the variety I listen to - I think she must expect me to be a miserable fuddy-duddy who only listens to what they grew up with!

I'll check out some of the Group Therapy podcasts too.

This is a really decent thread.  I've had my Scirocco for 4 years almost and loaded up the SD Card when I bought it and never removed it.  While the music I put on was decent I've listened to it all so many times I am absolutely fed up with every track.

I was just saying to my girlfriend the other day that I need some new music for the new car but I have no idea of what music I like at the moment.

Two favourite tracks on my iPhone at the moment are "Can you dig it" from the Iron Man 3 soundtrack and every track from the After hours album by Overwerk.  Espcially "Daybreak" as I listen to it while Skiing.  Will be driving the MK7 to Italy this Winter for some more fun on the slopes.

EDIT: If the MK7 arrives by the winter that is!

Just been listening to a bunch of Anjunadeep on Amazon and bought Anjunadeep In Ibiza 2013.  All I can say is....

You NEED Dynaudio!!!

Take those delay causing rear cameras off and put Dynaudio on if you still have the chance.  Normal system will not stand a chance with this level of bass.

Check out this video:

The tune is the one mentioned previously "Daybreak" by Overwerk.  Tonnes of Bass in this track and I just love it - the video and the tune are both super super cool.  Watch it loud!

My god, I must be a coffin dodger - I've never even heard of most of these groups

Although I'm cough...cough 50 (eek !), I do like music with a lot of bass. My favourite group of all time is Queen (saw them 4 times), and have all of their catalogue in the car, but I'm also partial to 90's dance music, Snap, New Order, Sash, Robert Miles etc.

I know, I know.... I'll get my coat

Ah, don't worry about it.  I'm 28 and I've never heard of them either.  However I also listen to radio 4 and avoid clubs like the plague so perhaps I'm the coffin dodger! :embarrassed:

PS: Don't listen to radio 4.  It causes more wrist cutting than radio head.

Been a rock/metal fan from a young age - brought up on Queen, the Police and Black Sabbath, and messing about on Janick Gers (Iron Maiden) band's drum kit (he grew up next door to my great uncle Kenny) in his garage from the age of 5. I can listen to most stuff in the charts but regularly go back to Faith no more and Guns and Roses.

May I also suggest Kyau and Albert 'Here We Are Now' and 'World Vibe' albums.  For something a little more relaxing with a deep Bass try Dusky 'Stick By This' Album or anything Oceanlab.  Andrew Bayer 'You' Single also has a summer vibe going on.

These are all the reason I thought shelling out for Dynaudio was going to be worth it... Well while the Wife isn't in the car, she is not so keen on the volume levels and bass I enjoy.

Thats a good point.  Where do you chaps usually get your music?

I used to use iTunes but I feel like the controlling nature of Apple makes this a rotten (haha  ) deal.  Amazon the best?

Also of late iTunes keeps badgering me to "download critical update" or some such crap but when I given in and let it monopolise my bandwidth for half an hour it screws up the install and says it has to try the whole thing over again.  I give up.  Its seriously unstable too, always freezing or crashing.
Title: Re: Music to drive your mk7 to?
Post by: Gryzor on 08 August 2013, 17:58
I never use iTunes, either Amazon or might try the new Google Play store now it's in the UK.  I've used CDBaby as well.  A lot of my stuff also comes from more specialist online music stores like MusicZeit.

If it's the same price, ill use iTunes just for the ease factor. But a lot of the time amazon is cheaper so ill use them as well.

Another artist I like a lot are Freemasons (different genre I know). Cracking tunes like 'uninvited' or their new one 'tears' but their mixes are also excellent eg. Yasmin's 'finish line' which is still one of my favourites.
Title: Re: Music to drive your mk7 to?

I use iTunes mainly, but if an album is cheaper on Amazon. I'll buy via that, copy into iTunes then sync iTunes Match so I have a copy in the Cloud/All other iOS devices.

I used to be a subscriber to Spotify, but tend to just buy the albums I want to listen to now.

I get no grief from my Wife, it's just that the volume level is so low that you cannot hear it.  Anyway I have the volume controls on the steering wheel, so I can just creep it up louder every now and then when she is in the car

If you like Air (as I do) have you got their 'Virgin Suicides' LP from 2000? If you love mellow and a soundtrack vibe its brilliant.

Can pass across if you'd like?

p.s. All this channeled though the Mk7's stereo should sound super. HeHee :smug:

Big fan then. No worries.

Not really a big fan as such, but like with a lot of artists I'll buy an album even if it's just for one song, find some real gems that way!  A lot of this type of stuff is melodic, and that's what hooks me.  For that reason, I have absolutely loads of synth and instrumental albums by the likes of Jean Michel Jarre, Andy Pickford, Mike Andrews, Jan Hammer, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, Bekki Williams etc.

Bought quite a lot of music on the basis of this thread from Amazon.  I used to buy through iTunes, but Amazon have such a slick system now and it seems to figure out your music tastes a bit better than iTunes.

Just bought Shakedown 2 by the Freemasons ( http://amzn.to/1ckbCGQ (http://amzn.to/1ckbCGQ) ) - Sounds Amazing in the Scirocco via the Dynaudio.

Anyone actually heard the Dynaudio in the GTI and compared it to Dynaudio on previous generation? I'm expecting a reasonable, but not massive upgrade.

It just seemed really good value for so many classic tracks!

Trucking songs? One for the GTD boys surely?  :lipsrsealed:

Got Empire of the Sun's new album last month. (Ice on the Dune) Epic 80's electro dance type sound. It has went straight into my top 10 albums of all time.

I also like Thomas Dolby, The Police, limp bizkit, Def Leppard, The Feeling, Calvin Harris, Robbie Williams, Kate Bush, Billy Joel, Peter Gabriel...... I better stop now lol.

Looking forward to my Dynaudio system! After hearing the SEAT sound system in the new Loen FR (Similar setup as the Golf) I am pretty excited!

I'm going to have to un-recommend Shakedown 2 by the Freemasons.  I was driving around country lanes late last night in my Scirocco and that album had me driving like an absolutely look and I almost stacked it.  The bass line in the first half of track 14 is dangerous and causes you to drive without undue care and attention.

Anjunadeep, Deep Tech 01 is a classic collection of tracks to test the Sub mids and tweeters out. If only I had the car and Dynaudio to test it out on.

It has to be Frank Sinatra, My Way.  Good call.  We could play this and try to re-create the launch advert as we drive...  In rainy UK without Las Vegas as a backdrop.  But hey once you find a multi-storey car park, let the fun and games begin

We've got a best of Pink Floyd CD, think I'll be copying into my iTunes library for driving to now! My musical tastes are so mixed, but for driving I like big loud fast stuff: ACDC, Daft Punk, Led Zeplin, Nirvana, Prodigy, Tinie Tempah, Yello

Purchased 'Acoustic' by Above & Beyond yesterday and have been listening to it on teh ol' Dynaudio. Let's just say it sounds gooooooooooooooood! Especially 'On a Good Day'!

Good call, I also have the Above and Beyond Acoustic album great to chill out to.  It is is also great stuff for the Dynaudio.  I think it is what the Authentic preset was designed for.

I have also been playing the Anjunadeep Yearbook 2013 recently. The bass on anything Anjunadeep is so good through the Dynaudio system.  You do not realise how loud it is until you try to talk to your passenger and cannot hear your own voice, and this is under half the volume.

If anyone saw my iTunes they would think I was mentally unstable... Hit shuffle and it can go through Miles Davis, Killswitch Engage, Skrillex, Jay-Z, you name it!

For driving though, it always comes back to rock music. Current playlist includes Shinedown, Alterbridge, Heavens Basement, Biffy, Haim & Fleetwood Mac!

Reviving an old thread, I thought I would let those of you who loved Anjunadeep 05 know that Anjunadeep 06 is now out and even more awesome than Anjunadeep 05.  Definitely going to play in my car for a while.  Deep bass with melodic tunes and none of that silly screechy electro noise stuff the kids go wild for

Hi, has anyone seen the you-tube video from VW regards "play the road". I believe it was a collaboration with the artist known as "underworld". I am due to collect my GTD mk7 in a few weeks and wondered what sort of playlist to put together? Anyone for Sigor Ros or London Grammer or even U2, Simple Minds?

Additionally where should I take my new GTD mk7 to prove out the DCC and other dynamic features on the car?

London Grammar sounds great on my Dynaudio in 'Authentic' sound character.  I can recommend some of the B roads in Cornwall for testing your car out as well.  Espescially if you have GTI with an e-diff, but just as good for a GTD as well.
