guys newbie on foaming here so apologies for my numb question.
to use a foam lance, does one need to have a water pressure system? (which would mean buying the foam lance AND the water pressure system)? Or can one use a foam lance on its own? (As you gathered i have neither a foam lance or a pressure system). Also, do all foam lances fit on all water pressure systems?

Hi
You will need a pressure washer and the snow foam lance kit that has the correct attachment for the machine. There are different attachments for different machines.

hmm, so it's best if i get both pieces from the same place to make sure they fit.
Would 100 bar be enough for snow foaming a car??

No you need to firstly choose a pressure washer you like, depending on what make and model it is will determine what snow foam attachment you'll need for that particular machine.
For example:
I own a nilfisk c120 pressure washer
This one http://www.screwfix.com/p/nilfisk-c120-3-6-120bar-pressure-washer-with-trolley-230v/56192
And this is my snow foam lance attachment.

Here's all the other options which depend on what machine you have.

100bar will be ok but your foam won't be as thick due to lower flow rates through the various different machines.
Hope this helps

this helps a lot Dan, many thanks. I hope it's worth the cost

You do not need a pressure washer as there are attachments for your hose that will produce a foam.
heres (http://www.waxamomo.co.uk/ecom-prodshow/arcgi.html) one on waxamomo.

mate, is this for real? I hope it is but I read someplace that pressures under 100 bar do not produce satisfactory foam. How will my hose produce foam then, having substantially lower bar pressure than a water pressure system?

I've read that these attachments do not produce as good a foam as a proper lance. Don't think you can beat the real thing.
Btw, highly recommend Bilt Hamber auto foam. I recently switched to this and am amazed at the improvement over my previous snow foam shampoo.

I've tested the gilmour years ago and they are not good for foaming and they cost more than a normal foam lance attachment for a pressure washer, they are good for a general pre soaking with say tfr or apc, citrus pre wash if you just want to soak the car first to loosen the crap,
If you want thick foam that clings then a pressure washer (with a good flow rate)and a dedicated foam lance is the only way to go.

hose pipe ones are crap. Snow foam is not that effective on unprotected paint.

my hopes gone up in smoke. the point was to save some money by not buying the pressure system. If this foamaster is not that good then ....

Bear in mind that the snow foam doesn't really need pressure, it needs good coverage. I use the karcher one and although it gets slated, it covers the car in foam, I let it dwell - job done!

so if it doesn't need pressure, then the foamaster could do the job? some clips i've seen on youtube suggest it does not spread foam as widely as a pressure system. Maybe the foam used??
-
That's my feeling? If it were me I'd go down the pressure washer route because of its other uses. But if it doesn't suit your budget at the moment go with plan b.
-
As I said in my earlier posts the gilmour is fine for just pre washing with the products I stated, if you've only got a hose then this is better than not having it, you just won't get the thick foam.

Just be sure to run plain water through lance each time you've finished snow foaming. This should clear it the lance mechanism of foam residue and keep it running smoothly. You can dismantle lances for cleaning but it's quite an involved process.

Thanks Booth
Probably stupid question so apologies but this pressure washer would be adequate for domestic duties too, block paved driveway etc?

yes

Hello Raffe, I've recently purchased a snow foam lance from karcher off eBay to fit my little pressure washer, although it did the job the foam wasn't very thick. So after a few days of thinking about up grading the pressure washer and throwing the snow foam at the auto smart bloke how sold it to me, I went and bought a autobrite foam lance direct from there site. Ooooo my god what a difference the lance is awsome. So just skrimp a bit on the pressure washer but spend the money on the ab lance well worth the penny's.
hope this helps
