Because I sure do! Gotta go later today as may have an abscessed tooth! I really am not looking forward to it.
-
Can't say im a fan either, I went in for a routine check up 2 weeks ago at my new surgery and ended up having root canal treatment as half my tooth snapped off whilst in there!

:undecided:
I haven't been for several years, which is really bad I know, but I have such a phobia of the place. It's only now I have this throbbing pain in my mouth that I think I should go. It's been so long my dentist took me off the system!
I am literally cringing at the idea of going right now. An hour to go. FFS.

I'm not the world's biggest fan and I have rubbish teeth, which doesn't help.
Wife has great teeth, loves going.
Wonder why?
Even so - it's worth going regularly to avoid things building up.

This is what I've come to terms with. I've only myself to blame for this but nonetheless it's a scary place to me.
What I wouldn't give for good teeth.

I love going to the dentist, and i go every 6 months for check up.
-
I love the Dentist too!
Anyway Shady if its just an abcess all they will do is give you antibiotics and tell you to come back in a couple of weeks.
-
I'm not a fan, only go if i need teeth out but had a couple of white fillings at the beginning of the year. Had a couple of infected/abscessed teeth over the years. I know a very very good alternative remedy for sorting out the pressure pain associated with an abscessed tooth. It involves placing a damp swab dipped with salt and bi-carbonate of soda (half teaspoon of each) and placed between the cheek and gum next to the tooth. This will draw out the infected puss through the gum relieving the pain and takes around 20 minutes to begin working. The only method of drainage the dentist will use is a drill, which on an abscessed tooth is nothing short of torture. They cant remove tooth until infection has cleared.

I don't like going. I had a piece break off a tooth years ago, but as it didn't hurt I didn't do anything about it until one day I bit on something and the hit the nerve, so I had to go. I turned up first thing without even ringing to make an appointment. He saw me straight away and put in a temporary filling and told me to go back in a couple of weeks. After around a month, the temporary filling was just starting to wear down. I quick google and I found that Boots sold DIY temporary filling kits, so I got one and kept patching it up myself...for 5 years.
Last year tho', enough was enough and I had to make an appointment as there was getting less and less tooth left to patch up. There was nothing for it but to take the tooth out. I'd heard all sorts of horror stories about extractions going wrong, but this one came straight out and I honestly didn't feel a thing.
I've needed a bit more work since as because I'd been avoiding chewing on the bad tooth for so long, I'd worn down the enamel on my front teeth. After working myself up into such an anxious state before, going to have this other work done was not quite as bad. I am determined to keep going and stay on top things before they get out of hand again. I still get worked up about going, but I find things like Rescue Remedy help no end as long as I does myself up a day or so before.

I've had terrible teeth (apart from the front 12 which are near-perfect...). My other adult teeth never grew so am struggling with what remains of my upper ones whereas most of the lower jaw back are gone.
I blame the evil bar steward of a school dentist when I was at boarding school. He took one of mine out without anaesthetic. It's no wonder I have a fear of the dentist...
That said I do have a lovely dentist who I see every year. Must look after what I have got... :embarrassed:

I had an upper rear wisdom tooth out a year or so ago and lay awake all night worrying about it and by the time my appointment came, lay down in that big chair with that light right in your puss I was ready to fall asleep. Was so relaxed and didn't even feel it come out. I just wish my lower wisdom tooth was the same but that was more like a scene from Saw IV and i'm due another lower wisdom out, well what left of it as there is nothing there. But because its a lower one I can see it and keep it really clean so never bothers me at all.

So I only went and got gum disease.
No abscessed tooth, the pain in from my upper wisdom tooth rupturing though. As I hadn't been to the dentist in years, he checked and that's when he said I have gum disease. On the plus side I've caught it at just the right time as it is reversible (apparently).
Seeing a hygienist next week who is going to clean the feck out of my mouth.

I had awful pain in two of my teeth last christmas, also after not visiting the dentist for several years due to thinking they were going to saw my head off or something daft like that so i found a nice new modern one and even though i had to have three teeth out it was nowhere near as bad as i thought it was going to be although it was quite painful for a few days afterwards, i'm quite happy to attend my six monthly visits now.
-
I only like going because my dentist is a good looking lass

I hate the dentist too, me and my wife go to the same practice but have different dentists, I had a problem with a tooth a while back and my dentist filled it for me, a few month later trouble from the same tooth, this went on for a further 3 visits even though I told him on the 2nd visit to rip it out, but he wouldn't have it saying you should keep as many teeth as possible. the last visit I had with this tooth, was with my wife's dentist,(mine was on hols) who told me it needed root canal work(£480) or an extraction (£61) I booked for the extraction, went in whilst he was still on hols and she ripped it out in 5 min. so I have a massive gap at the back but no pain........ . I feel sorry for hygenists, having to do their job, + some of the sights they must see, now I brush my teeth and floss every day, yet she always takes ages when I visit, but theres a guy who I know who has quite big teeth and there disgusting, never brushes them or anything in fact I cant eat for a bit after talking to him as they make me heave, mouths filling up with pre- vom saliva as we speak....... hate to be the hygienist on that job............

They probably are but I don't want to risk it really. Only get one set of teeth.

Ha Ha that's the Surrey TAX they shaft you with!
TBF @ 35 that's where the problems start same boat I have two crowns due to over crowding and rotting teeth that I could clean properly. Regular visit one a year should be fine if they rob you!
I find mouth wash is really good for gum diseases and daily flossing you will find so much left over food stuck in you're teeth it only starts to fester and rot and make gums bleed like a biatch.

I will only go if something hurts. I do not use mouth wash or dental floss. Does alcohol count as mouth wash, hope so .

My (pissed) Friend once drunk about half a bottle of mouthwash on the basis it was slightly alcoholic or something, he was abit iffy/sick the morning after, but at least his breathe was minty fresh.

Went in for my hygienist appointment yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I thought, a little uncomfortable at times, but she did say she wasn't getting really underneath the gum line until next time (a few months). She did however get rid of ALOT of crap from my teeth. I couldn't believe how much I could see and feel. One bit that came out was huge!
Mouth feels so much better now though, and I'm eager to get the rest done now. Since my little episode last week I am keen to look after my teeth.
On the plus side, she said that my brushing technique is excellent, and suggested I don't change anything in that department (thank you Oral B Electric Toothbrush!). I just need to floss daily and use these wire brushes for the bigger gaps (these feel strange).

I've got half a wisdom tooth as it snapped due to a fork :lipsrsealed:, nerve is on show and gum is slightly swollen, the dentists is probably my only fear and hate going, but been taking pain killers and they're hardly covering the pain and waking up at least twice a night in pain, I will more than likely ask to get referred to the hospital to be put to sleep to have it taken out

I would do the exact same mate. No way in hell do I want to be concious if they have to remove a wisdom tooth. Only got the one showing at the moment but it feels like it's growing ok. Only time will tell. I know the feeling of pain from it too, mine decided to have a 3 day growth spurt which came out of nowhere and that's what caused me so much pain. Painkillers do bugger all don't you think?
-
Your brushing technique cant be that good if you have gum disease!

I have the same at the moment, half my tooth fell off about a year or so ago and never had any pain until a month ago, now anything hot or cold in my mouth gives a horrible shooting pain that doesnt go away unless i take some really strong cocodamol which knocks me out, normal painkillers just dont cut it.
Im not registered at a dentist anymore as i havent been for couple of years and theyre not taking on new patients so not sure what to do.
Do you have to pay to have one taken out in hospital?

Your eyes must be rubbish because you can't read. I said that I don't floss or get in between my teeth, that's where the problem has risen from.

Good brushing can do that!
