Hi guys,
VW just rang me & told me that the Dynaudio replaces the spare wheel & you get an inflation kit instead. I told them I heard that you keep the spare wheel but they were determined that you don't as they said they had already checked with VW sales queries.
I need to tell them what to do before 4 today, whether to take it off my order or not. Does anyone know or have solid evidence that we get to keep the wheel?
Cheers,
-
Related... as standard do you get a spare wheel or the inflation kit? Mr S's post seems to imply you get the wheel, can anyone confirm?
Ford fobbed me off with the kit and I had to buy a wheel for about £100 extra.
-
The price guide notes if you take Dynaudio it is in lieu of the spare wheel on SE and GT models implying you still get the wheel on a GTI or GTD. I have ordered Dynaudio and the salesman told me I will get an inflation kit though!
-
Sounds like it could e an error on the price guide where they've "omitted" the GTI/GTD by mistake?
-
I tweeted VW UK asking this question and they replied saying you still get an 18" spare with dynaudio. So hopefully that is the case!
-
Yes, I specifically asked at order time from VW UK customer services. I asked them not to guess but to find out properly and they took 4 days to get back to me and were adamant that for the GTI / GTD, the Dynaudio package DOES come with a space saver spare wheel. I ordered my Dynaudio on that basis.
TBH, if it doesn't, It's not the end of the world as I'll just kick off with VW (as I have this in writing) and they can supply me with a space saver as I know for certain the sub fits perfectly into the 18" Space saver (as it's the same sub Audi use on the new A3, and that definitely comes with one).

So the sub fits into an 18" spacesaver? There is probably the reason you don't get a spare on the lesser modesl like SE/GT - a 16" or 17" wheel probably won't accomodate the sub.
-
It does indeed. He's a pic I took of the boot of a new Audi A3 which uses exactly the same sub, fitted into the 18" spare wheel. You could also be right that only the GTI and GTD models come as standard with an 18" spare so "lesser" models space savers (i.e. smaller ones) wouldn't fit ?

The GTI demo car I tried on Saturday had Dynaudio and the sub was definitely in the space-saver spare wheel
-
Well my dealership have now forwarded the question on to the main factory in Wolfburg in Germany for an answer. Told them I want a definite answer before I say either way.
I'm pretty sure it will be included but ill update this post when I find out.
Do many dealers have GTI Demo's in at the moment then?
-
VW dealer in Exeter told me they will not get their demo until the same time I get my car in mid September. I have Build Week 34. I have also ordered Dynaudio and the thing about whether it fits in to the spare wheel is of great interest to me. Of my previous 4 cars I have had 3 punctures and 2 blow outs. I have always stated I would rather have a Spare Wheel or Space Saver rather than a can of Tyre Weld.
It does indeed seem to look like the Dynaudio may fit in to the 18" wheel. Lets hope VW confirm it is the case. I for one will not be happy with the wheel being replaced by the Sub Woofer, as I was told it would fit in to the wheel.
-
Playing with the German configurator, you can have Dynaudio with an 18" spare wheel, but as soon as you try and change to a 16" spare (alloy or steel), it tells you that the combination isn't possible.
This smells like winter pack and cloth seats all over again.

Actually that makes a lot of sense. The sub won't fit in the smaller wheel, but it goes in the 18" one fine.
Methinks the German configurator is better than the UK one...
-
I should have a confirmation on this in the next couple of days, i'll put it to ease as soon as I find out.
-
Its already been confirmed 100% by VW according to this thread:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=251881.msg2318576#msg2318576
They would be crazy to drop the wheel for a can of foam.

A cost cutting measure (in the name of weight reduction) that many other manufacturers ahve already adopted, or god-awful run-flat tyres. I'm surprised VW have shied away from Pirelli P7 self sealing tyres that were standard fit on my Scirocco.

Do you mean they will be getting a demo with Dynaudio in Sept or just a demo? As I've posted up pics of their demo (non Dynaudio) which was on the road at the beginning of June, if not before.
-
Sorry to sound a little vague. But are you saying VW in Exeter already have a Golf GTI Mk7 Demo? They told me they would not get a Demo car until September the same date as mine. I asked them more than once to let me know if they do get a demo so I can come in and have a look etc,. They were certain they would not get a demo until at least September.
I think I will have to give them a call, if they have one already.
To clarify they were not getting one with Dynaudio, just a standard demo car nothing more.
-
Just spoken to Lisa at VW Customer services who again confirmed GTI and GTD models will get the 18" Space saver spare wheel with the Dynaudio Sub package.
-
Dynaudio Pics on this link, last picture I think

There are also pictures on the Dynaudio website showing the system off. I have actually just emailed my dealer to see if it is too late to add it onto my build, ordered 1st of May, scheduled build week of 35 but not confirmed. What do you think my chances are??

I would have thought you would be okay if you don't have a confirmed build week yet. However, I don't know if it would push your order back potentially. With VW who knows :undecided:

Yes, they've had a red 5 door for weeks.
I'm popping down to Plymouth VW at the weekend to see if they have a demo as I'm down there anyway. I just can't deal with Exeter VW.

It is rather concerning when the customers know more about VW's than the people selling them isn't it... :undecided:
-
I'm sorry but that red just isn't doing it for me at all. too much red and loses the shape of the car.

Red is difficult to photograph on cars. Tornado Red can give an amazing deep colour in person & it's the iconic colour for a GTI. Goes perfect with the red stitching and classic tartan in my opinion.

I completely know what mcmaddy is thinking here, its what I think when I see those pictures.
And yet, when I drove the TR demo at the local dealer it did look gooooood. I'm hoping this means that pure white (or maybe CSG) look even better!
-
On the red theory like/dislike issue.
I've noticed that tv advertising for both the new peugeot gti and the renaultsport clio featured a red car and I would imagine that the choice of colour for an advertising campaign is very important.
Perhaps red displays very well under studio lighting conditions but i do agree it looks flat under certain circumstances.
I like red based on the fact that it's different although with the amount of red on the car already, it doesn't work that well although its not a deal breaker.
-
The only problem with white is that 80% of people have chosen it. Going to be very popular.

More like 60% actually:

Although I haven't updated those graphs for a while. Might do it later.

I just plucked a number out of thin air with that 80% but yes definitely seems to be the most common.
Anyway! I've just been contacted by VW who have told me that the GTI still does come with a spare wheel when spec'd with Dynaudio :) Happy days!

Inchcape Telford have got a DSG with Dynaudio fitted, I'm waiting for a call back to book a test drive as the guy with the key wasn't about!

It's a TR one mate, no chance of a DSG review after the crappy phone call i had from them! Got a call from the dealer to arrange the test drive and in the interest of honesty and time saving i was upfront and told him that i'd ordered one from another dealer already but this was the first one i'd seen with DSG so wanted to try it? "Oh, well would you consider cancelling your order and placing one with us?" I said not really as it'd been in for 10 weeks already so unless he could guarantee a sept delivery which i very much doubted then no!
The reply? Sorry no we can't help you then!
The moral of this story is keep yer mouth shut if you've ordered one from somewhere else if you want a test drive!

To be fair Jimble I can understand their response. They're not going to waste their time if there is no chance of them getting a sale. As you say, better to keep quiet
-
Tbf though he could of arranged a test drive and not bothered with the hard sell afterwards which would of only been about 10 minutes, less if he'd just given me the keys and i'd gone on my own! I'm not sure if the dealerships have to buy their demo's or if they're just supplied by VW? In which case it'd hardly be "their" car so whats the problem with obliging a VW customer??
I've visited a few dealerships now and the general feeling i get is that they really aren't interested in promoting the VW brand only looking after themselves, with a few exceptions of course.
-
Just ring them up in a few days and arrange a test drive. Tell them you are very interested and ask if they accept credit card for a deposit :P ?
-
Inchcape Telford aren't the greatest dealer, so that doesn't surprise me. I turned up mid-afternoon on a Saturday, wanting a test drive in a Scirocco and a Golf. They seemed more interested in going home for the day and very reluctantly let me have a five minute test drive in a Scirocco.
The next day I went to Stafford VW, had two test drives and ordered a GTD. I would have quite happily ordered from Telford, but their poor attitude settled their fate.
A fifteen minute test drive in their new GTI wouldn't have hurt. Sure, Jimble wouldn't have ordered from them, but treat him right, and he might take it there for servicing and the like, and keep them in mind for when/if he gets his Mark 8.
-
My experience of dealerships is that the majority of salesmen are not real car enthusiasts so they don't share the same passion in cars that we do. For quite a few of them it's not the profession that they have chosen, however due to the current climate they are happy just to be in a job, and who could argue with that.
As we know these guys will probably be on a minimum salary and are under pressure to hit sales targets each quarter, not only to secure their job but also to boost their earnings through commission. When someone asks for a test drive but states that they have no intention of buying then they aren't going to waste their time. While they are out on a test drive with you they could be losing a sale back in the showroom.
In terms of new business through servicing and so forth, it might benefit the dealership but it ain't going to benefit your sales guy.
We would all like our salesmen to be as enthusiastic as we are but it's just not going to happen. Indeed, when I said to my salesman that I would really like to do his job because I love cars, I got a very strange look like I was mad
-
Only mad because you're an accountant
