So after getting caught doing 35 in a 30 I finally got my letter through the post but the registration was WRONG. Where do I stand, what do I do? Pay the fine and get the 3 points?? The reg isn't even registered on the DVLA.

As you can see the reg in the letter does not relate to my car at all.
-
For starters I'd crop the image down to remove your address from a public forum
I'd assume that as the registration is incorrect the ticket is invalid, however I'm not certain :undecided:

Mr Bounce would be the best person to advise.

How do they know where you live if your plate is wrong?..

read the letter he got a fine at the side of the road so must have gave his details then
-
I'd say they can still prosecute as they'll just say it was a clerical error and refer to the issuing officers records.
-
Here's a copy of the ticket I received on the day. Can see the error, the cop made it look like a U instead of an 1J. Thanks for the advice. Il ring them Monday and see what they say, I won't pay the fine until I revive the correct information for the right car. First time I've been done speeding since I passed my test (6years) so was kinda expecting the speed awareness course. :/

Are you asking if this is a way to get out of the fine? You were caught fair and square, take it on the chin mate! It sucks but thats life!
-
Pay and move on....
You won't win!
-
+1 on the above.
id ring up get it sorted so it has the correct reg and pay.
cant see you winning and getting out of it, you were cought fare and square at the side of the road and theres obviously been a mistake when there doing the paperwork.

Actually, having been in this situation before I'd recommend telling them it was wrong.
Best thing to to is to go on to PEPiPOO and ask, or search on there.
If the police f*ck up then generally they can f*ck off.
Do not just bend over and take it as some are recommending.
-
They cant increase your fine and they cant add points on.
I would try my best not to get points on my licence. If theres no way out of it then pay up, but put up a fight first.
Never had points but done a driver improvement course. This was because I crashed and the investigated that I was doing 60 in a 40. I played dumb and said didnt see the signs etc. They put me on the course because I only been driving for 2 months.
6 years is very long time and you should be a experienced driver.

This, and use the search function.

even if he does accept the penalty, he'll be offered the speed awareness course won't he? my first offence was 38 in a 30 and was offered the course.

Back from the motherliking dead! How the hell are you?
-
He'll be sent on a speed awareness course. However if he gets caught speeding again within the next 3 years then he'll get points.
-
Weird dads just got one and they managed to mistake an O for a D when there are rwo number plates on the rear of the van.
Will not be paying straight away.
-
I was caught doing 34 in a 30 (slowing down from a 40 zone). I wasn't given the option of a course instead of points.
If you can do the course instead of points, do it, it's far cheaper in the long run. Any points on your licence and your insurance goes up. Thankfully points come off after 4 years.
If they've made a mistake, take it up with them before you pay out though.
-
I agree in putting up a fight, but if it was at the side of the road then I`m sure you would have signed the ticket? this is where your fight would end.
-
Dad's just given up and is doing the course.
Don't blame him tbf, 2 accidents in the last 5 years, probs doesn't need points on insurance as well.
-
Last time I got caught speeding (80 in a 40 - don't ask), I managed to get away without a fine or points. Still not actually sure how
