Title: thinking of nitrous oxide...
Post by: jamie16v on 09 June 2013, 23:52
everyone seems to be going down the WMI/welly cooler route, which is fair enough, but it does cost a bit of money..
i might upgrade my fmic and pipework but was thinking instead of buying a water meth kit, get my car tuned up without it and be happy with what it makes without. i will have upgraded injectors and maf housing, got them waiting to drop in. so, was thinking that after the set up is mapped in, go for a nitrous oxide set up.. i think my setup without N2O should easily make roughly 270bhp and with a squirt of nos, quite a bit more, got to be careful not to smash my rods in the mean time so will go for a small nozzle to start and perhaps buy a spare engine to build afterwards.
what are your opinions with that idea?.

Think you would be able to put the power down?

i wouldn`t be pulling off with nitrous oxide engaged really..lol
so yeah, once its up to speed and in WOT no problems..

I think if you got a decent progressive kit it should be ok
Title: Re: thinking of nitrous oxide...
Post by: jamie16v on 10 June 2013, 13:56
why progressive?
Title: Re: thinking of nitrous oxide...
Post by: GTi_James on 10 June 2013, 14:01
isnt there a way of seeping oxide into the mix at a certain rev range? im sure i saw that somewhere on a supra before unless i was having one of them petrol head visions from the piston god  :lipsrsealed:

Post by: beppe2672 on 10 June 2013, 14:07
why progressive?

It's a bit more gentle on your engine!

whats been done to your golf altogether then barry?.. got any pics/advice on the 4x4 tranny conversion?.
i know the boot floor panel needs changing..
also on the topic of nitrous, if rods were upgraded then progressive shouldnt really be needed i would assume.
if i were to fit before the rods were fitted i would only fit something like 30-50bhp jets to keep it under the 300 bhp margin.
long term plans are to build an engine that can handle it, or give up the cars altogether and buy a shopping wagon.

Fit both
WMI would keep it nice and cool hole the bod would give you a load of power

Won't it be quicker and cheaper dropping a 18T into a 4mo?
I also want to give nitro a go!

the nitrogen element of nitrous oxide acts as a cooler once the particles split

how much would it cost to buy a 4mo, plus all the work to swap all the mods over, i think it`d be easier to get the running gear, exhaust and boot panel from a 4mo.. i could be wrong. but finding a decent 4mo for the right price isn`t going to be easy.. i`m tuning in poverty don`t forget

Yeah but burning the nitrous get very hot and can melt things haha
I know people use it but personally I wouldn't use it u less I was willing to cause damage or I was using meth for cooling  :undecided:

i dont mind it breaks, plus if you get the fueling right its not so bad.. i`m not looking for massive gains from it. just looking for an alternative to getting to the 300bhp barrier.
WMI might come later on or before, i`m currently looking to upgrade the hotside intercooler pipework before any of those plans come into place. :lipsrsealed:
Title: Re: thinking of nitrous oxide...

Yeah I guess as you have said just using it for the small push then it shouldn't be a problem but if its going to be used with anger I would be carful

i will be looking for a massive push if i get a decent spec engine built
looking to build one with some decent rods, valve springs, and maybe pistons.. maybe take the rev limiter higher too then..

My mate has a Ibiza cupra 1.8T running nitrous. Its Remapped, filter, exhaust, FMIC, 30 shot nitrous jet, progressive timer & nitrous bottle warmer. It is a very quick car on acceleration for whats been done & has silly fast turbo spool.
A 300bhp 1.8T running nitrous will be immense

to be honest, if i could do it by just replacing the wheel well, i would rather do it that way. more fun and experience, and i think i could get all the bits for less than buying a whole car.

i dont mean just cut out the circular bit, i mean drill all the spot welds out from just the boot floor section. i had a look in my boot and all the spot welds are accessable from the boot for just that panel.
i thought the rear diff mounted on that panel hence the shallower well. suspension mounting points i assume are the same..
