everyone seems to be going down the WMI/welly cooler route, which is fair enough, but it does cost a bit of money..
i might upgrade my fmic and pipework but was thinking instead of buying a water meth kit, get my car tuned up without it and be happy with what it makes without. i will have upgraded injectors and maf housing, got them waiting to drop in. so, was thinking that after the set up is mapped in, go for a nitrous oxide set up.. i think my setup without N2O should easily make roughly 270bhp and with a squirt of nos, quite a bit more, got to be careful not to smash my rods in the mean time so will go for a small nozzle to start and perhaps buy a spare engine to build afterwards.
what are your opinions with that idea?.
-
Think you would be able to put the power down?
-
i wouldn`t be pulling off with nitrous oxide engaged really..lol
so yeah, once its up to speed and in WOT no problems..
-
I think if you got a decent progressive kit it should be ok
-
why progressive?
-
isnt there a way of seeping oxide into the mix at a certain rev range? im sure i saw that somewhere on a supra before unless i was having one of them petrol head visions from the piston god :lipsrsealed:
-
why progressive?
It's a bit more gentle on your engine!
-
but i want break neck acceleration

whats been done to your golf altogether then barry?.. got any pics/advice on the 4x4 tranny conversion?.
i know the boot floor panel needs changing..
also on the topic of nitrous, if rods were upgraded then progressive shouldnt really be needed i would assume.
if i were to fit before the rods were fitted i would only fit something like 30-50bhp jets to keep it under the 300 bhp margin.
long term plans are to build an engine that can handle it, or give up the cars altogether and buy a shopping wagon.
-
Fit both
WMI would keep it nice and cool hole the bod would give you a load of power

Won't it be quicker and cheaper dropping a 18T into a 4mo?
I also want to give nitro a go!

the nitrogen element of nitrous oxide acts as a cooler once the particles split

how much would it cost to buy a 4mo, plus all the work to swap all the mods over, i think it`d be easier to get the running gear, exhaust and boot panel from a 4mo.. i could be wrong. but finding a decent 4mo for the right price isn`t going to be easy.. i`m tuning in poverty don`t forget
-
Yeah but burning the nitrous get very hot and can melt things haha
I know people use it but personally I wouldn't use it u less I was willing to cause damage or I was using meth for cooling :undecided:

i dont mind it breaks, plus if you get the fueling right its not so bad.. i`m not looking for massive gains from it. just looking for an alternative to getting to the 300bhp barrier.
WMI might come later on or before, i`m currently looking to upgrade the hotside intercooler pipework before any of those plans come into place. :lipsrsealed:
-
Yeah I guess as you have said just using it for the small push then it shouldn't be a problem but if its going to be used with anger I would be carful
-
i will be looking for a massive push if i get a decent spec engine built
looking to build one with some decent rods, valve springs, and maybe pistons.. maybe take the rev limiter higher too then..

be alot less work to drop the 1.8t in the 4mo im sure as cutting rear floor out an finding an r32 floor is not cheap or easy to do

looking at it i agree, i though it would have only been the spare wheel well that`d need removing, not half the rear end  i`ll just stick with FWD i think..lol
i`m sure nick at r-tech did a 4mo conversion and only drilled the spare wheel well out (from memory) but i can`t find the link  ..

-
i just bought the car mate  cant claim to have done any of the work except new exhaust an turbo being fitted  an i did drop a hint after you made a comment on the tt that another quattro might be coming soon
-
My mate has a Ibiza cupra 1.8T running nitrous. Its Remapped, filter, exhaust, FMIC, 30 shot nitrous jet, progressive timer & nitrous bottle warmer. It is a very quick car on acceleration for whats been done & has silly fast turbo spool.
A 300bhp 1.8T running nitrous will be immense

anyone got a link to R-tech`s 4mo converion.. i have looked..

plenty of them about a mate just broke 1 an binned the shell as i didnt need it anymore
-
Man you can get them cheap as now ,maybe mine wasnt such a good buy after all lol
-
what you just broke a 4mo barrym ?
-
to be honest, if i could do it by just replacing the wheel well, i would rather do it that way. more fun and experience, and i think i could get all the bits for less than buying a whole car.
-
what you just broke a 4mo barrym ?
a mate broke this 1

-
Didn't it belong to a lad called dan??
I believe he got a 280z and started a thread in the non vag section.
-
im sure the thread was started by nick though, i remember there was a pick of him under the car on a dolly, the pic was taken through the boot of the car with the floor removed.. that`s as much as i remember..lol

it might be the car im not sure, it`s not the thread though... there was some proper piston and head/valve meltation in that thread.. ouch
-
he had 1 on here too

yeah, it`s still not the thread i`m looking for though. :undecided:

maybe i am mistaken, he mentions its for his straght though :undecided:

didnt think it would be that simple just cutting the spare wheel bit out but i may be wrong but looking at some of the picts on the memory stick i got with mine it looks alot of work

i dont mean just cut out the circular bit, i mean drill all the spot welds out from just the boot floor section. i had a look in my boot and all the spot welds are accessable from the boot for just that panel.
i thought the rear diff mounted on that panel hence the shallower well. suspension mounting points i assume are the same..
