My dealer emailed me today to say that my GTD order (5 door, manual, no extras, Tornado Red) has dropped back from BW26 to BW33, same week as my dad's replacement order for the one that was cocked up.
So I rang VW UK to ask them to confirm the build week - they also quoted BW33. They couldn't provide any further info as to why and were completely unapologetic, stating that the previously quoted estimated BW26 was just an estimate and not binding, all decisions are made centrally by VW Germany and they weren't privy to the reasons etc.
I emailed the dealer back to ask if they know why and he's responded saying that another Golf ordered (not a GTD or GTI) has also fallen by the wayside by 7 weeks over previous estimates.
I do wonder at this point what is going on. Is something big happening at Wolfsburg to push me and others to the other side of the shutdown, has my dealership got some queue jumping orders in on the sly at full retail that have taken earlier allocation spots?
My dad's replacement GTD order appears to be officially coming in under Durham branch - maybe a way of getting an allocation slot close to mine (despite being 3rd order taken at Sunderland and now officially the 4th as his original order is not his any more (but is facing an imminent build in the next few weeks).
If it wasn't for the Black 5 door DSG being built in a few weeks (my dad's original order, cocked up) I would suspect that all GTDs are being pushed back to August.
The dealer sent me PDFs of both my dad's new replacement order and my current order. Both look similar, but my dads doesn't have a build week on it electronically, rather it is hand-written on. Mine has a field on it which states "detag reason" (which my dad's doesn't). The inclusion of this field says to me that it might have been artificially reallocated in the dealership's queue further back. The info on mine looks a lot further along - it has shipping details etc. I can send the PDF to Bill for further analysis.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that, MH.
I wonder how often regular Golfs get put back that far, wasn't something I expected? Could be you are right that there is a more general delay at Wolfsburg. Like you I would have said the best explanation is that the BW26-30 was just too optimistic by the dealers and they are now dropping back to the BW30-40 the rest of us have been told, yet as you point out we know about some cars ordered around the same time as us that are due to be built in the next few weeks. On the other hand, perhaps up to now the options we've chosen haven't had much effect, but now they are planning in more detail they've had to move things around a bit. Wild mass guessing I know!
Not sure I can tell you much more about the order sheet that you've seen, though curiosity means I'll gladly take a look. I wonder if any VW employees or ex-employees on here could chip in with their thoughts.
I feel like we still have the same basic problem just continuing. We're not so much upset with the long waits, but rather with the confusion where we don't know why the long waits are happening and don't know how much trust to put in any estimates we're given. I'd have been much happier if VW had made it clear up front that the estimates aren't any good. Perhaps they got vastly more orders than they expected... I do wish they could set up a better system on that tracker website so the information is more up-to-date and clear, even if it is just 'clear' that it is 'unclear' if you get what I mean!

If it's any consolation, my GTD from Pullman Durham, was estimated at build week 28, and is now back to BW33 as well - as usual no-one knows why.
I also see the configurator has changed, climate windscreen and advanced phone connection now on there, but keyless entry disappeared, although you can still order colour MFD !

Haha! They've just given up on it haven't they?
I hope that those of you going back ~5 weeks is not a sign that those of us already on BW36 or worse are not also about to go back 5 weeks! That would be a killer pill to swallow .
-
keyless still on there for me when looking at GTD.
Looks like the only thing missing is Carbon Grey paint and the colour MFD still on there!

Gutted for you monkeyhanger. But I'm not surprised given the GTD being released after the GTI, and with so many GTI orders (all??) not even build yet, that they have pushed back GTD orders. Hopefully from a GTI point of view this means they will be getting their ar7es in gear and building them now - but I have a sneaky feeling the factory itself is well behind what they thought the output would be and I fully expect everyone's orders, apart from a select lucky few, to be pushed back a few weeks. 'Welcome to the VW Disappointment Club.'
-
It just seems that if plenty of others expecting BW26/27 end up being in the same boat at BW33 and no-one beyond it gets bumped, there'll be nigh on all of us here getting our cars built within a month of each other. I'm convinced that "detag reason" field has something to do with other unbeknown orders taking my allocation spot within the dealership. If that does happen then they're shooting themselves in the foot by copping for an extra few months of depreciation on my p/x.

The one GTD order that'll be out on the open road in about 5 weeks was 3rd in the Pulman queue (my dad's original order) Nothing has changed with it's status. Can anyone tell me how to attach a PDF or should I just sent it to Bill (pm me your email address please Bill).

will likeley be a parts shortage on an item in the GTD either Skoda thieving all the nice VAG engines or some QA process picked out an issue requiring a change to the planned builds.
So many people with fingers in the pie, your dealer, VW UK, VW GMBH and VW production....of which production is always king!
-
Sounds to me like VW are building a load of GTDs in BW33, surely they will group them together to make it easier to produce them in a batch.
-
I don't want to get shouted at like last time but I'm still convinced the GTD will be a month or so behind the GTI.
1. Reviews have only just started appearing.
2. No demo cars in the UK (due soon apparently)
3. VW planned the GTI release before the GTD release, this has been mentioned a few times from various sources.
There seem to be some confirmed early GTD build dates but not many.

Well. I guess that depends how you define behind? If you mean date from first GTI to first GTD then yes we have seen a GTI arrive already but it's a few weeks until a GTD will be here (that we know of). On the other hand because it seems like GTIs are trickling through at a painfully slow rate, a "delay" of a month on the GTD would appear practically non-existent if hardly any GTIs have actually been delivered during this period...
-
Only time will tell on this one.
I honestly can't remember how it was with the mk 6 GTI/GTD, but then there was no mk 5 GTD (I think the last GTD was mk2) so who knows. I'm just guestimating on what I've heard and read.
Hopefully I'm totally wrong.

I reckon VW make it up as they go along. My Mk6 was ordered 18th May 2009 with an estimate of 10 weeks. It arrived on a transporter after 6 and my salesman didn't even know it was coming!!!! It just turned up out of the blue!!
Maybe it depends which way the weather is blowing in Wolfsburg but having ordered several VWs over the years (Mk3s, 4s and the 6) any build or delivery estimate they give you isn't worth s***!!!!
-
I agree my mk6 Took over 7 months but original had a 10 week delivery time and just kept been pushed back and back.
Until it has a confirmed build date locked for production a build date is meeningless.
-
I've been told today that my GTD will be in the dealers on the 28th August, but "This may be bought forward"
-
Mines on track to be built next week and with me by the end of July. Standard black, 19" wheels and keyless entry with DSG and I was late at ordering......

And this is exactly the kind of order example that blows everything VW have told us (precious little that it is) out of the water. An order for a GTD with a DSG placed "late" should certainly not be getting built before orders for GTIs placed early with the manual box! Their statements don't hold water.
Of course pointing this out just leads to the reply of "there are many complex factors"... presumably one of these factors is that the build order should make no sense to anyone whatsoever.
Anyway, genuine congratulations to GTD Paul! Look forward to hearing how it drives in a month and a half.

I like your optimism Paul, I'd be very surprised if your or my GTD arrives before 19th August. I ordered on the day the book opened and got the single allocation at the dealer. Having been through all this before I can only pass on my experience.......don't believe the ETA you get until the cars been built.

Jon, what is your estimate from your dealer? Would be very interesting to see what a GTD gets estimated at if it is first in a dealer's queue! Is it a big dealer or a little one?
-
Reading through all the issues everyone has had, if it makes anyone feel better...phone call yesterday "End of August in the dealer" phone call today "23rd September" !!!!! really!

the dealer is an average size, five sites I think. Regardless of size the allocation works the same, a lot is a slot. Spoke to them lat week and was told o the best of knowledge it will probably arrive a few days before the plate change. I old them even if it arrives a day earlier, I'll take it then, I'm not in the least bit bothered in waiting. In fact I'd prefer the current plate. Reading others are being quoted end of September doesn't surprise........I knew there would be a long wait before I ordered. I almost ordered a 27k GT 150 diesel but just knew I'd end up regretting it. At the mo have a different new car every couple of weeks from a hire company. This I have a insignia Sri with 20inch wheels. I don't suppose any one buy one of those private. Anyway, will be let it be known how things progress.

I ordered mine from Birmingham VW one of the first gtd orders or so I'm told. Not many extras but a few. Sales guy was quite adamant that the GtD would be in the uk for delivery to me by mid-end if July. Shortly after ordering got a text from him saying pushed back to build week 33 mid sep. I will be car less by end of July and I told him I wasn't happy but u get the standard talk from be. Not impressed to say the least.

I don't know if they still do it, but when I was waiting for my mk6 to be built, VW would provide a free loan car if your car wasn't available for you to take delivery of it 20 weeks from the date the factory accepted the order. Depending on when your order was accepted by the factory, you might be eligible for a loan car, rather than be car-less (assuming VW still provide free loan cars in these circumstances). Worth checking with your dealer.
