As said above, My mate has an engine off his ibiza cupra 1.8t with a ko4 turbo, I dont need anything but the engine and the turbo, will it work if it is fitted? ive heard they are pretty much the same engine.
I dont want to buy this engine off my mate as its not refundable, so i want to make sure that me buying it gives me a guaranteed engine to run on my golf mk4 shell.
Any advice welcome and all appreciated.
If it is a simple plug and play then I will buy the engine and start an r32 replica project.
cheers, Dom

i think it`ll fit but you`ll probably need engine mounts and maybe engine mount brackets for the block etc.

How would I go about this mate?
-
I'm not 100% sure but you may need ECU and clocks.
-
I'm assuming yours is currently a 1.8t?
The block will be the same so you'll be able to use your existing mounts, if it's running a KO4 you'll either need the ECU or yours will have to be custom mapped to suit.
You'll also need to think about the supporting mods, FMIC, Actuator, D/V, TIP etc. Do you already have these? If not you'll need them.
If yours isn't a 1.8T to begin with them you'll need the loom amoungst other parts.

DOM!! :D!
Haha, yeah mate its everything in it, intercooler, ecu, the lot, its already been converted but i blew the engine and looking for a bit of an upgrade, Ive been told id need to get it mapped to run properly but as long as it runs im fine with that!
so is it a go or a no-go?
-
I have the brakes and everything so all thats pretty much needed is a turbo, head and block as they are all dry.
-
The KO4 tip is different to KO3 & KO3s so you'll have to change that as well. The rest should be fine though :afro:
-
okay Dom, well i have taken note of the main things you said and will look out for these, thanks for all help and advice guys
-
No probs, I'm sure someone else will be along soon with more advice for you

Sorry to sound a bit thick, But I'm confused on the ko3 and the ko4 turbo bit that you mentioned eariler dom, Can you go into more detail if possible bud?

The KO4 is a bigger turbo than both KO3 and KO3s.
KO3 was found on early MK4's whereas KO3s was found on later engines, KO4 was used in some TT's, LCRs & S3s.
The KO4 is a 'bolt on' upgrade to the KO3/KO3s, the only thing that it requires is a different intake pipe and then mapping.

isnt the ibiza a different chassis than the golf? if it were a leon i would say yes it`ll all fit. but its and ibiza, arent they more polo than golf?.
as dom said the block is the same.. but i would have thought the mounts would be different for a start..
also the pipework and looms ect would be routed differently?
all depends on the layout of the ibiza obvously.
just my thoughts as i dont know for sure as im not sure what chassis layout the ibiza has etc..

Engine should be the same but some bolt on parts will be different.

He already has a 1.8t so he can use his existing mounts etc.
-
so he will need a LCR/TT225 downpipe, the ecu from the doner car and a loom that`ll suit his car and the doner ecu?
if the ibiza loom will fit his car then almsot good to go..
-
So am I better off getting the block and turbo off a golf mk4? or will it be more hassle than its worth, the ibiza is still sitting on my mates drive with everything in it.
As Me and Dom discussed previously, I only need the block and turbo.
gearbox loom brakes etc are all on my golf, But is the ibizas engine fitting not possible and as easy as the agu engine from a golf?
-
Because Im not going to be changing looms over when everything is working fine except for the engine and turbo, also the ibizas standard bhp is 150, which is the same as my golf...
Would it still be a difficult job?
-
i think you`ll be fine.. its definately worth having.. i think the only think you`ll need is a k04 downpipe from.. if youre lucky his ecu will fit your loom.. check if you both have the same type of ecu.
what year is your car?. if you look in maintenance and info section there are two write ups on ecu pinouts
one for bosch m3.8 (agu) and one for bosch me7. (aum).
like i say its defenatly worth taking it may just mean you`ll need some other bits to make it work.. most bits you`ll already have on your own car.

You need to check the engine codes are the same

So if i used his ecu id be alright? and by engine codes mine is an AGU T reg 1.8 20v Turbo..
Im not sure on the ibizas, I just know they run of the same engine, but the worst It can do is not work so I guess ill give it a butchers and buy his engine, and if it doesnt run, Ill sell it on i guess.
-
find out what engine and ecu is in the ibiza then report back.. you`d be better off using the ibiza ecu if it fit`s as it`ll be mapped to suit the engine and turbo.
-
Ibiza will be AYP
