Think I'm being a dumb ar$e as cant find this anywhere (and helpfully the GTI brochures are now not available online ) but does anyone know if the mirrors fold automatically when you turn off the ignition or will it be like the mk 6 when you have to twizzle the button? And this feature is standard, right?

Folding mirrors are standard, and I believe you can set them to fold automatically via an option in the infotainment screen.
-
Excellent, good stuff thanks!

I know that there has been some discussion recently on folding mirrors from the keyfob and updates to newer models. I picked my car up today and hey presto! Mine folds on locking from the key and unfolds from ignition on.
-
That's what they all do pal. I think people were looking for them to unfold when unlocking the car rather than on ignition

Seems like SA pulled the short straw, no folding mirrors on mine as standard.
-
Ok, in earlier discussions I thought it was folding on both ignition on and off. Thanks

It is a bit of a mystery why they seem to change the standard set up from one country to the next

True and I can't see why folding mirrors won't be a standard across the GTI range, oh well, we at least get full leather as standard

That's definitely a bonus but I suppose in a hot climate it makes sense to have leather.
Wish I could bring my car with me when I come across next March. Would love to drive it over chapmans peak. Scary but brilliant

The chapmans peak drive is EPIC! Just hire one when you here bud.

That really sucks, so my car probably wont have automatic folding mirrors as well? or you have to fold them manually? I also thought this was standard across all GTI ranges irregardless of the country.

Thought so as well, I can't even find the option to turn on or off as well. Something slightly off topic, I had a similar issue with the side mirror dipping on reverse, Vw advise that the adjustment knob needs to be on the "L" sign, tried that and it works like a charm but only the passenger mirror dips. Just wonder if something like this needs to be done to "activate" the folding mirrors.

Not standard in Belgium.
A lot is standard on the car but Folding mirrors are not for some reason. I did take it as I live in the city and have more chance of someone touching/hitting it.
In the Netherlands they have a lot less standard on the car to keep the price down as they pay a lot more for their cars.
It just has to do with keeping the car in a certain price range, I presume the importer decides what they want to put on there as standard in function of the price.
If they would put the standard Belgian car with the same specs on the Dutch marketplace they would probably sell a lot less as quite a lot of people wouldn't have the budget.
A car easily costs 7000-10000 euro more for the same car as in Belgium, it has to do with taxes.

To be fair, its not standard in most markets - it's a separate package - (Spiegelpaket) at €175.00
VW UK, have (rather surprisingly) decided to equip UK GTI's and GTD's to a very high standard, so items such as, Xenon's, LED Rear Lights, 18" Alloys, Folding Mirrors, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto Lights Wipers, Dual Zone Climate control etc., are all standard in the UK. However the downside to this is it's makes the VW one of the dearest hatches in it's segment (for the power). Certainly much more expensive than a Focus ST or a Megane for instance.
However some would argue (me included) that you are not only getting a better specced car for the money, but a better car full stop than any of the cheaper offerings.

Seems that the standard package is pretty much comparable (apart from the mirrors) in Belgium.
I agree that it's a very nice specced car for the money. It's pretty much 'full option' on the standard version already.
I've driven an Audi A4 (one of the first of the current model) and Audi A5 (one of the first ones) and I must say that the level of detail and quality is comparable with the GTI. I found the A5 to be a great looking and driving car but was a bit dissappointed with the level of detail of the interior. A BMW 3-coupé was a lot nicer on the inside and pretty much in the same price range.
Conclusion: allthough the GTI is not cheap you do get a lot of car for the money. I wouldn't know why I should buy an Audi again to be honest.

Fully agree, wouldn't have a Renault or Ford unless I was being paid

Me too. Wouldn't trust a Renault to be reliable. Fords seem to depreciate rather quickly, plus I find the styling/design a bit over done, esp the dash/centre console.

Do the folding mirrors that are now standard have puddle lights now?

Yes, they sure do.
-
I hope they are LED ones. Its the thing in the MK6 I was brave enough to tackle to swap to LED.
-
Yep, they are LED as standard.
