Arrrghhhhhhh,
Started to do the rear discs and pads a few weeks back, noticed they were low on friction and disc, and the brakes were sh!te,nice easy job I though, anyways after a few little niggles, got one side done, go to other side, have a prob with a sticky piston, under a bit of pressure, I snapped the line, GREAT!!!, bought a new one..( 2 in fact, 1 OEM and 1 from ECP) then I notice the new line doesn't fit the flexi..under the car...on closer inspection, the numpty who previously fitted it had crossed threaded it...so off I go to but a new flexipipe, £8.32 OEM from VW. Brilliant, got a mobile mechanics out today to fit it, as I was busy with work this week, £48 all in including brake bleed. He comes out today, saying the next pipe up, connected to the OTHER side,of the flexi, is all twisted, ( i did notice it looked different, when I looked, but didn't think it was twisted) so now need a new pipe, which goes under the fuel tank!!! So need to drop the tank, and hopefully that will sort it, no more probs!! Had enough of it now!!!
Sorry the the rant!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! what a nightmare!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! what a nightmare!
Yup!! Haven't decided what to do yet...I really don't want to let it beat me....but also..there's a point where enough is enough! It's a fine line lol
-
lol perservierance in the face of adversity!!!
-
Missus is already on about saving money for a deposit on a house lol
-
Has any one any experience in changing this brake line?? It's the '3rd' piece working rear-to-front..

Did the fuel tank have to come out completely...or did you just 'drop' it...is it easy to get to...
-
You're on about scrapping it because of a brake line?!
-
It's costing to much already...plus I don't know what I'm doing lol. Have you had experience of changing this brake line?
I don't really want to take it to a garage(it'd have to be trailered for a start)
Might give it a go..what else can go wrong? (Famous last words lol)
-
Can you not just make a copper pipe, easier to bend and you can just slide it on through instead of dropping the tank?
-
The scrap people will be rubbing there hands trading a working car for 150 quid just because of a brake line u cant buy another car for 150 unless its a shed try to fix it mate copper pipes u cant make as you need a flaring tool take it to a garage to get fixed if not break the mk4 for bits

Could easy take the old pipe off and go to a garage to ask them to make the same size, we have farmers coming all the time wanting it done..I usually make them..2 minutes to cut and put ends on, then with copper you just bend as you need it, plus it doesn't rot!! :)
-
Still got to drop the tank to remove old pipe! Will attempt it..or see how much to fix at a garage...mega £££ no doubt lol
-
It doaent take that long tp drop a tank it depends whats in the way if nothing is in the way its a couple of bolts and they may only need to drop it a little your prob look at 2hours max at 50 pound a hour if you live in west london tge copper pipe that dont cost that much
-
Will have a ring about today! See what's what.
-
Got a local garage to do it...so fingers crossed it'll be reet
-
i wouldnt scrap it for that, mine has had 2 gearbox rebuilds in the last 3 years which i wouldnt mind if i abused it!
-
I think this thread was a knee jerk reaction to being pissed off about things always going wrong...especially when none of it was my fault lol(ok maybe the 1st brake pipe getting snapped was lol maybe i was to heavy handed lol) it's in a garage now, hopefully ill have it back nx week sometime

-
that really isnt bad at all tbf, awesome stuff mate, feel better? :lipsrsealed:

yep, drove it yesterday to work and back, 64miles there and back, no whining noises, no hesitation both due to handbrake being seized on. even got 37-38mpg...not bad on a car that hasnt been looked after by previous owners and with 151k on it
