Pulled my lower back on Friday! Have my off shore survival course starting on Monday! Does anyone have any methods on how to ease the pain? I have deep heat spray and patches also deep freeze patches.
-
If its not right mate I suggest you get the course changed to a diff date with a sore back pulling yourself in to the raft will kill your back mate... Usual things take ibuprofen and deep heat etc Also one of the main things they will ask you and make you sign when you arrive is that your fit for purpose etc
-
Yeah! I wouldn't do it with a sore back! A bit of swimming involved, and raft and the helicopter bit! Best bit! :p

F*ck that and man up
Best thing that i do is touch my toes without bending my knees (stood up) bounce baby bounce. Touch your toes then straight back up repeat a good few times as much as you can
Will pull the muscle back out
Its happened to me a good few times and i do this procedure and its all good

One thing I have learnt, at 23!!, is to not push your back if it sore or hurting. I have had a bit of a dodgey back for over a year now. I have spent quite a bit of money on sports massages and have been lucky enough to receive some top expert help (thanks to my job). The thing is I have always been impatient and gone and played golf/squash/climbing/weights etc.
IMO you need to get it seen to and then let it heal, plenty of stretching, massaging, heat therapy, light weights to get it re strengthened.

I have both of these, the nobbly one I use for my back, give it a roll 3 or 4 times a day, doesn't feel great but as long as you take it easy it may help, I know it has me. The less bumpy one is great for helping stretch your legs/glutes/back which are all related to back injuries.
How did you put your back out may I ask? I never try and lift heavy things on my own, I get called a girl but I'd rather not break my back like in the past!

Sleep on concrete floor or (carpet ) so your whole back is straight!
In India they sleep on pins and streets they never have any back ache I've heard.
Forget drugs as it will do more bad than good, as you don't know what else you could add damage on you're back.
My treatments is light stretching so you can exercise the muscles as they will be tight with the constant winching of pain.
EDIT lower back pain doesn't not mean the issues are lower back shoulders can cause this the nerves are connected causing pain else where!

All deep heat will do is make the blood rise to the surface and away from the affected area. It will ease the pain short term, but will do more damage and take much longer to heal properly.

Im in the same boat as you just now. ruptured a disc when i was 15 and it flares up now and then. i get siatica down my left side. Only thing that sorts it is resting if you have damaged a muscle.
-
IF its lower back then try to lie on your back and raise knees to you chest. The lower muscles could be in spasm and this will aid releasing them. Do both legs at once and then slightly cross one over a flat one and bring to chest. Also sounds daft but massage your butt. You can feel jus around the coxis and into the cheek muscle particularly down the outer side.
If it is lower back the Physio don't normally recommend straightening as you want the muscle to be forced to relax not tense. Shorter is tense in muscles. So stretches. Warm heat from a wheat or water bottle placed directly on it helps with blood flow.
As others said...rest is the main thing. But make sure it's the lower back before following our advice

lol at all the internet doctors on here
i've had back spasm in my lower back on two occasions thus far and it is agony, i feel for you.
my recommendation would be to get an appointment at an osteopath and have a massage and a correction done asap.. note.. i say osteopath and NOT a chiropractor.
i have shuffled into osteopaths in agony and walked out upright with much reduced pain
-
^coming from the man who tells him to spend money. And says an osteopath will sort it.

Resting it will do nothing but cease it up even more, i had a slipped disc when i was younger & have always had to be a little careful with my back but when it goes i try keep moving as it passes after a couple days.
Osteopath's are good in emergencies although cost a fortune !
-
i did my back in few years ago leaning under shelves pulling 25kg bags out to make a pile of 56 . Id been working there for over half a year before it happened and moving over 300+ aday. God the pain. If i tryed running i would of past out, getting out the car after work was a killer. I carryed on working in pain and after 2 weeks it was better. Using it is the fastest way of it getting better.

yes... but well worth it if you can't walk or earn money! usually about £40-£45

or possibly exacerbating the problem :lipsrsealed:
-
go see a doctor and get proper qualified help
or
end up in need of an op with only a 60/40 chance and live a restricted life because of it.
-
Doctor won't do anything unless you are really knackered, they will just tell you to take pain killers.
If you are that bad then worth a go, you will need to be persistant if you want anything done.
-
Osteopaths can be good, but cost a fortune. Private treatment, depends if you money to burn..

Yes but a Doctor can refer you to a specialist which i ended with And has Solved my back problem

For christs sake don't use deep heat. It masks the pain, so you think it's healing. Then you go and make it ten times worse.

I done my back in on holiday a few weeks ago. I slipped getting into the swimming pool and twisted my knee and back.
I went to an osteopath when I got back and she sorted it out after only a couple of sessions. Cost £42-00 per visit.
