Title: New Member - GTD Bluetooth Phone Connection...
Post by: cosmicremedy on 05 April 2013, 21:52
Hi there,

I have just joined this forum over the last few days and have now collected my GTD this afternoon and i am over the moon with it...!

I am trying to connect my iPhone 4s but having some trouble.  I do a search and my phone is picked up on the devices list on the car but when i try to connect it says "Mobile phone is not compatible" (on the maxidot).  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Martin

How can you tell if your car has Bluetooth? Just by searching for bluetoothndevices on your phone? There are a few phone buttons in my car but not had a proper play yet

they fit the phone buttons on the steering wheel as standard I'm not 100% sure but if you turn your stereo on and press the phone button  a phone symbol with a slash thew it shows up on the top left of the radio this will tell you you don't have Bluetooth  I'm no expert but hope this has been of use

When you turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone, do you see VW PHONE listed under Devices?  I've had a 4 and 5 and both iPhones have connected to Bluetooth in my GTD without any problem.

There should be a Bluetooth menu in the DIS. Scroll through using the <> buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel. It goes something like, Trip Computer - Audio - Vehicle Set Up - Bluetooth.

You pair your phone from the DIS, not from the phone.

That's an RCD510 without DAB.

As I said before, scroll through the DIS to see if you have the Bluetooth module fitted. It is separate to the head unit.

Hey Martin

This (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pairing+phone+to+a+vw+310&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari) link will show you how to pair a RCD310...click on the first one...but if yours is the 510 then I'm sure the same instructions will apply...

I think you need to set the iPhone 4s "phone name", I red it somewhere that sometimes if its not set the car has issues.

Thanks, yes i have the RCD310 and have followed the same instructions.  I do a phone search on the car, which finds my iphone.  But when i press ok there is a short pause and then the message "mobile phone is not compatible".  Also the vw uhv does not appear on my bluetooth list on the iphone at any time?

It's strange, it's as if the car knows the iphone is there but not the other way around?

Me thinks that the easiest way is to press the 'Phone' button, if sound is muted and nothing else then probs no bluetooth. But its not only the headunit you require for BT pal

Do you have any buttons above your head next to the map lights.

Obbzi;

You don't need a new head unit; yours is compatible. One option is to retrofit a VW BT unit (which I did having taken up a Steve P group buy); these either go under the driver's seat or behind the dash. Other retrofit options are also available that'll work with your HU including one sold by FISCON.

Should be lots of thread on here somewhere. You can obviously change to another HU if you want to for one that HAS BT integral; however with the retrofits you get the full screen menus etc for the phone and the DIS and steering wheel button integration is excellent., i.e. just as if the car cams from the factory with the full BT option fitted.
