Title: CHEAP Clocks Mods - Heads Up
Post by: Ashmond on 04 April 2013, 10:28
Hi Guys,

just been looking on ebay, if you wanted to change your clocks to give them a unique look then this is a good way:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Passat-sport-dials-petrol-/130863268442?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e780f025a

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-4-MK4-97-05-Cluster-Gauge-Speedo-Bezel-CF-REAL-CARBON-FIBER-Dials-Clocks-/140947435410?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20d11f2f92

(Thats basically 20 quid!)

If you want to push the boat out:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-MK4-4-Passat-3B-B5-T4-Van-Chrome-Speedometer-Gauge-Dial-Rings-Bezel-Trim-/321032763715?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4abf0b3943

All together they would look mint on any standard set of mk4 dials...

just a heads up

My clocks are basically the anni bits with my standard Gti guts....I made them fit

To be honest, the anniversary needles arent all that, look at the photo below, the centre of the needles are black whereas the Gti ones are red all the way through. I swapped them, then deceided I preferred the gti ones so I changed the temp and petrol needles back but kept the main needles as the anni ones.

Its a piece of piss to do you just need to make sure when you put them back to 0 that the needles are at 0, when you turn the keys on in the car, they will recalibrate and maybe slightly off....i had to take mine apart 3 times to make sure they were spot on.

Its such an easy mod to do. If anybody has or comes across TT/r32 needles then il gladly swap my anni ones as they are the same but the middle circle on the needles is silver instead of boring black.....

Just for people who wanna give it a whirl and do something different. I am yet to see a mk4 with the carbon fibre backing. I cant do it on mine just clocked as the silver rings on my anni ones are one piece, dont want to risk trying to split and damaging them

I did something sililar to my ford focus i got lockwood dails and changed the entire backing lighting too took me ages althou i didnt take te needles off as they were prone to breaking and found it extremely hard to get the new dails on. How hard isit to remove the needles?

I was going to change my SMD's to white or red but tbh I just love the VW standard blue clocks....looks crisp at night!

If the needles never been removed just get a flathead screwdriver and something on the end not to scratch the clocks....I used tape but a thin microfibre would be better. Just apply even upward pressure and they pop off. You do need to give it a bit of welly but not too much....hard to explain.

The Anni needles on the back are MUCH shorter then the Gti so I had to fit down the lip on the guts to make the smooth. Sounds complicated but it is actually SO easy. Might start making some up if people are interested (not on your own clocks, on some clocks then sell)

No I have the proper bora sport clocks; foils, needles and thick silver rings built into the casing

I just swapped them over as the SMD's didn't work on the original sports motherboard.

The passat ones are the most similar to r32 foils. Just needles you need. Like I said if anybody gets any r32 or TT needles il swap my anni ones

I got this for my AGU really good quality not just some paper or card insert. Put on some chrome rings as well really sets it off looks well smart  I prefer the GTI needles to be honest they seem to glow a lot more then the anni ones.

Yeah that is a pain in the ass you would just need to get another set of dials and recode

Post by: Granta Gti on 06 April 2013, 20:53
Davemk4 you have the same as I do, a half screen dash with 6 light in the centre. I have ordered the AGU ones with 6 lights in the centre and no screen, I'm going to cut it to show the screen. Will let you know how it goes.

Post by: Granta Gti on 06 April 2013, 21:29
The washer bottle is in the right place and the epc light is where the check and engine symbol is which mean the same thing !
Title: Re: CHEAP Clocks Mods - Heads Up
Post by: davemk4 on 06 April 2013, 21:40
hmmmmmmmmmm so it just means a different symbol would light up compared to my current symbol style other than that the dial foils should fit!! PLEASE let me know how you get on. i sooooooooooooo want bora foils lol
Title: Re: CHEAP Clocks Mods - Heads Up
Post by: davemk4 on 06 April 2013, 21:42
but it still wouldnt work if you look closler at my speedo section my battery symbol and (p) in wont line up and it doesnt have a boot  open light in the center 6 on the agu foils. mine does. i hate these dials!!
Title: Re: CHEAP Clocks Mods - Heads Up
Post by: davemk4 on 06 April 2013, 21:52
the EPC on mine at 6k

this the bora foils from ebay

then look the main dials below. the annoying thing is ive got a combo of dials  the bora speedo it self is fine the symbols line up but then the center section on mine is only 6 in total not the the 8 on all the dial covers. my car doesnt have door open light ( gayest thing ever not to have!)

EDIT-----

looks as if mine are immo2 so looking on the creation web listings if i bought the diesel immo2 foils and the aug foils id use the diesel speedo and vis area as that is exaclty what i have now and then use the Aug foil for rev counter that way it all be the same

Yeah agreed but on the anni clocks the silver rings are part of that plastic bit and I dont want to damage the clear plastic bit
