I am thinking Tornado Red but as normal with a new car purchase doubts arise..
-
Gone back to white. I think it is one of the cars that carries this colour well
Had a white mk 5 gti. Then went red for the edition 30. Back to white for the edition 35 (RIP)
Sticking with white again
Certainly never have another black car.

 I think a lot wud agree with you but then again if maintained well its probably the most satisfying colour to look at when all gleaming...

I've ordered white due to lack of other options tbh, it would've been carbon grey although did consider Limestone but i don't think it'd suit the GTI as well as the GT, the only others i looked at were sunset red which imo looks too orange in some lights and reflex silver, so pretty p!ss poor choices from VW this time round!!
-
I'm a bit disappointed with the new colour choices for the Mk 7 ... and don't understand why VW would drop Carbon Grey and introduce Urano Grey.
I just hope they keep Rising Blue (or equivalent) for the new R.
-
Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a while as I'm thinking of taking the plunge and ordering a GTD.
I really had my heart set on Carbon Steel Grey for the colour after seeing it listed on the German website, so was gutted when it wasn't on the UK configurator.
To be honest I found the colours listed on the UK configurator a bit strange. Previous GTI's seem to have had the full Golf range of colours, minus a few that aren't really "GTI", plus one or two special colours.
The German website seems to follow this trend (adding Carbon Steel, removing Urano Grey, Sunset Red and Pacific Blue).
It's probably wishful thinking, but does anyone else think the colours on the configurator might not be the final list?
-
I reckon give it a few weeks and carbon grey will be on the list.
Welcome btw :afro:
-
Slightly off topic, but I think Seat seem to have done a bit better with the colour choices for the new Leon than VW have with the Golf, even though they have fewer colours to choose from.
Subjective, I know, but I prefer Seat's metallic Apollo Blue, Montsant Red and Monsoon Grey to VW's equivalent metallic colours; Night Blue, Pacific Blue, Sunset Red or Limestone Grey. I think I'd quite like a GTI or GTD in Seat's Montsant Red, whereas I don't think I'd want VW's orangey-red Sunset Red. Seat also have a metallic (Nevada) white which is just over 1/2 the price (£475) that VW is charging for pearlescent Oryx White (£900).
Come on VW, give us some decent colours and bring back Carbon Grey too!

@ SF-GTD Firstly Welcome to the fold!(http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing31.gif)
If you are seriously thinking of putting in a order then I wud do it asap as you probably know the GTI/D allocations are not that great.. and give the dealer a provisional colour choice but say to them that your preferred colour choice wud ideally be Carbon Grey ect and ask them to call you if the colour becomes available in the next few weeks ect so you can change your colour choice before your car goes to " build week confirmed" after which things can't be changed from your order...
Just my 2p worth...

It's not the greatest pic but this is the one that made me go for white over silver 8)

Either way they're both nice colours.
-
Im after a change so im not that fussed really, both look ok to me and are possibly the same colour just in a different light
-
Anyone know which shade of red the GTI at the Paris show was? It looked really smart. Also starting to be tempted by deep black pearl - think thatll look really smart on the 7.
-
That's the metallic red I think? Tornado red is the non-metallic so must be?
-
Think I will be ordering a Tornado 5dr GTD tomorrow. Sill not sure that's the right decision though vs Pure White
-
Colour choice is always the killer decision

New poster here, Hello everyone!
I currently have a rising Blue Scirocco 170TDI. I ordered a pearlescent black MK7 5DR GTD on Friday. There is no discount on these locally (Newcastle). The snotty attitude of Benfield Silverlink made me go back to Pulman in Sunderland where I was offered £500 more part ex than at Silverlink and the £329 service pack thrown in for nowt. Overall I got about £750 more p/x than Parkers/Glass' would indicate for my Scirocco, so I suppose it is like getting just over a grand discount inc service pack.
I didn't go any further afield for haggling as I know the salesman at Sunderland, who indicated how far he could stretch his manager on a car with currently limited allocation availability. If I was buying the same car next year i'd be looking to get a sizeable discount - it always costs more to be an early adopter, and between Pulman and Benfield they have all the dealerships covered in a 50 mile radius.
I'm expecting it in June, but yesterday I got the official order acceptance paperwork which states a "handover commitment date" of 01 May 2013. Not sure whether that means car will be available then or that is the date of no return e.g. commencement of build.
Solutions figures right now are amazing for a GTD right now in terms of final rental figure/guaranteed future price. My agreement indicates a 55.7% retained value. Compared with the terms for a 150TDI GT at 47%, the actual cost to runa GTD for 3 years on solutions is actually cheaper than getting a GT on solutions!

The figures I have been quoted for a GTD are £40 month more than those I were quoted on a Polo R Line 1.2 lol

Monkeyhanger,
Did you try each branch of benfield and pulmans, as each branch is run as individual companys, so you can often get a better deal from one benfield dealer over the other benfield dealer etc.
I'll keep an eye out for your mk7 in May as I work in Newcastle and not seen many mk7s about yet.
-
Snoopy: I only tried 2 branches of Benfield and one Pulman. Carrs of Hexham (Benfield group), the place in Morpeth (also Benfield group) and Pulman Durham never offer anything due to location being full of posh idiots who always pay full RRP.
Silverlink is my local (I live in N Shields), they are sometimes open to a deal , but not for my last 2 cars. I have a mate who is in sales in Benfield Scotswood Road. He told me honestly that he couldn't wring out a better part ex than Silverlink offered nor give me any discount as they've already sold their allocation up to May, all at full RRP.
So I went to Pulman Sunderland. The same salesman as last time gave me more p/x than Benfield and said that he couldn't do much for me on terms of price. I asked for free metallic paint and he said his manager won't go for that - he suggested the 3 years services pack worth £329 as there was no additional equipment I wanted to spec. We went for that in the end. He knows what he can and can't get away with e.g. what his manager will approve. He said that right now with limited allocation he can't give any meaningful discounts, but as my current car was from them he was able to inflate the part ex a little (which he did). If I was buying one in a years time I know i'd be able to shave £1.5/2k off the list, but the solutions final value won't be as good (IMO - I have never seen a GTI/GTD hold 55-60% at trade in/3 years) and right now it is £50 a month cheaper than the Roc I own and should be good for a £20-30 a month fuel saving, so by not hanging on a year i'll have saved a grand there.
-
So I went back into the dealer today to sort out the issue of roof/19" alloy combination. My usual salesman is on holiday this week so I got left with another guy who seemed to not really know what he was doing... But anyway he checked out a computer system of some sort and he assures me I can get the car in Carbon Steel Grey. Anyone else been down this road? Starting to get tired of all the misinformation.
-
Just tried to do an insurance comparison for the new GTD, but of course none of the insurance companies have it listed yet. Assuming it is treated the same as the MK6 (yes it has more power, but it has more safety kit to boot) my insurance quotes were 27% cheaper than for my Roc 170TDI, both the Roc and the MK7 GTD are group 26E. Significant insurance saving is a welcome bonus.

According to the configurator only grey metallic shades available are limestone grey and tungsten silver (I excluded Reflex silver as a "grey") and that applies to all Golfs, not just the GTI/GTD. The nearest equivalent looks to be tungsten silver.

Thats weird because I order all cars for stock, demo's and my own customers cars on "sli" VW's ordering system and that colour is not currently an option. I have order two new mk7 GTD's and that is not an option if it was then both customers would of ordered it in that colour.
I smell some bull.......
-
Is it not possible to do a "special" order with Carbon Grey, then?
-
Is it not possible to do a "special" order with Carbon Grey, then?
Aren't special order colours something daft like £2k? I don't think i'd want any colour that bad! :o
-
I dont think you can on a VW's in the uk........
-
Well to be honest I had little confidence in what that particular salesman had to say anyways. My main goal was just to get the order pushed through and I can worry a bit more about colour later.
-
Don't leave it too long mate it'll be being built in the next few months! :P
-
Oswald's Sunset Red GT looks rather gorgeous. Do you think the tornado red of the GTI stripe would clash with the deeper tone of the sunset red?
Maybe I'm overthinking this...

Now being told you can not get the GTI in sunset red and colour dsplay is standard, what the fcuk are they playing at

The dealer has spoke to vw uk and they said you can not have sunset red on the GTI also the sunroof and 19" wheels are a no go if configured together. You can still configure all the above on VW main site :undecided: ADC is supposedly standard as is the colour displayI.if you get what you expect when the car turns up it will be a miracle

Glad I have gone for a simple spec then.

I'm going to make sure I save a current PDF of the GTD spec so if there are any shortcomings I can be sure they were meant to be standard when I ordered my car. Want to make sure VW don't make a sneaky alteration to the spec/brochure later (for omissions - couldn't care if they want to give me more equipment than I was expecting). Is the colour MFD supposed to be standard right now? In the Golf pricelist (page 17) it is listed as a £135 option for all models (excluding S, for which it is unavailable). ADC is standard, according to the pricelist "cruise control" is standard equipment for all models except the "S" and there is no mention of ADC in optional extras specifically. I take that to mean that "cruise control" is ADC. ADC is only mentiuoned in spec for SE and then it is assumed that for all models above it, it is stated as each progressive model only mentions additional spec over the previous model.
I am intrigued by the "anti tramp" function. Do they mean the anti hijack function that locks the doors automatically when you've reached 10mph and stay locked, or do they have a device to dissuade Bulgarians from wanting to wash your winscreen with a dirty scrap of newspaper for £2?
-
Glad I have gone for a simple spec then.
Dave
Are you expecting the ADC and colour display as standard ?

ADC - yes expecting, but not that I would have spec'd as an option.
Colour Display - not expecting, but nice to have for free.
I was hoping the winter pack would be standard as the early press release stated it had it, and £350 for heated seats and washers is a lot IMO.

Final order hopefully, Carbon Steel Grey,Performance pack,19" wheels,Dynaudio,Keyless,
(I notice carbon grey is not on any configurator :undecided: )

Hi,
I just spoke to a VW dealer over the phone and he said that carbon steel grey IS available on their internal configurator (he checked all the colours for a Gti). I told him to check on the VW site and he said there was some inconsistency because it wasn't available there.
The fact is, you can order the carbon steel grey because they wouldn't be using the vw website configurator in any case.

Me too pacific blue and metallic red not available, but carbon is. Go figure

Deep Black Pearl for me.
Nothing looks better when clean, a pain to keep clean mind you but then I like cleaning cars.
-
Carbon grey is now an option it has appeared on our Sli ordering screen ; )
Yay!
-
Carbon grey is an option here too in Ireland. I have to say though that unless the sun is shining, it looks a little dreary to me, I'm not sure. We get so little sun here!
I'm so tempted to go with white again (currently have a white MK6 GTD)...
-
As it looks like my fav colour, Sunset Red Metallic, isn't available in the GTD, does anyone know what colour that GTD was at the Geneva motor show ? Was that Sunset Red or plain Tornado Red ?
-
This one is Tornado red:

For me, with it's red accents, there is only me colour for a GTI...white! None of this pearl rubbish either! ;)
-
White seems very popular.
-
If Carbon Grey is available that'll be what I'll order my GTD in - awaiting sight of the brochure VW!
-
If I was going for the MK7...IT's got to be RED all the way....

I just think it suits the size, aggressive stance, and accents of the car really well. When I got my Mk5 it was a no-brainer as soon as I saw the colour options. Sure it's all down to personal taste, but I genuinely don't think any other colour apart from black suits it. Having owned a black car in the past, never again! So, white it is
-
a mk6 cab drove by me today in sunset red and just looks a bit odd for me when the light catches it
i like the tungsten silver but mrs w wants tornado red which gets my vote

Have to agree. I've a 2 year old white MK6 GTD from new and it gleams today like it did when new. Incredibly easy colour to mind, i never see swirls or marks on it like you inevitably do on dark colours... and suits the lines and shape of the Golf so well IMO.
The available metallics, apart from carbon grey perhaps, are all a bit uninspiring. I've also had black before and loved it but was bloody hard work to keep.
Colour is a very personal choice though.
-
Yup. Everybody says white must be a nightmare to keep clean, but it's the complete opposite. I do think black as a colour is gorgeous on almost any car, but, as we have experienced first-hand, it's tough to keep it looking nice, and it shows marks much easier.

I've had white, red, silver, blue, yellow and green cars in the past.
Nothing looks as good as the VW DBP on a GTI when clean. Sets of the red lines beautifully and is quite discrete, not as shouty as red or white.
If you can't be bothered looking after it then don't choose Pearl Black.
My third black GTI in a row so maybe I am biased.
Very personal choice as always.
-
I've ordered white. First white van... er car I've ever owned
Hope I don't regret it?
-
The majority of my cars have been white, long before the recent craze, but I've also had silver, blue, and black. Depending on the car, I would agree that a well-maintained black generally looks fantastic, especially a GTI with the red accents. While it's not like I can't be bothered to look after my car, a cleaned black doesn't stay looking so great for long, and it takes much longer to wash because you have to dry it properly to avoid white marks.
I'd agree that red can be a bit shouty as it's quite bright, but I think white just looks classy, understated, and also shows off the red accents well. All personal choice as you say though!
Edit: Hawaii-Five-O, take a look at the photos in white here, and you'll know you made the right choice! ;)

Just kiddin'... *ahem*

I see Urano Grey has vanished from the configurator now.

I know it ain't available but what is that blue called...?
-
I know it ain't available but what is that blue called...?
Not sure, is it "Rising Blue"?
-
Rising blue is what is available on the current Scirocco (miine is rising blue), very similar in colour to the old "R32" blue.
-
I know what your saying but to me it looks different to the rising...
-
Regarding the blue on the configurator called night blue, does anyone know if this looks anything like the shadow blue that was available on the Mk5 and Mk6?
really quite liked that colour but not entirely sure about this shade and whether it would suit the car. That blue that they used at the Paris motor show looked fanatastic but gather from comments above it's not available here.
-
I have a feeling that the car in this video is night blue.

Thanks mate. Based on that I think I'll save myself £500 and go with Tornado Red!

Traditional GTI colours have always been red, black, white and silver.
No silver orders yet?

Also went to benfield silverlink and was promptly fobbed off tbh.
Then visited Pullman who were so much better its unbelievable....genuinely wanted my business.
But got an exceptional deal from vw Chester. Have to travel but the discount I received more than makes up for it.
Oh, and I have a horror story about benfield but that's another story!

Benfield horror story? Doesn't involve their Bodyshop on Scotswood Road by any chance does it? Right bunch of monkeys in that place - avoid like the plague for repairs, they ruined my MK5 GT Sport TDI170 after it went in for a minor repair, took 8 weeks to do a 2 week job, fitted and painted a replacement body panel that rusted up every 2 months due to poor preparation/protection and the thinnest paint job they could get away with. They left the brakes in a dangerous condition on handover and stole a few things from the car whilst they had it. Other than that they're great.
What made you go to Chester? Relatives there? Used them before for a broker deal or did you literally ring around every VW dealership in the North-East and North-West?

I took my Mv5 GTI in for a service once, and it came out looking lovely and clean...apart from a molten patch on both side skirts! Turns out the guy who steam cleaned didn't pay much attention to what the hose was touching, lol. They replaced both skirts, but when I went to collect it I noticed a huge chip in the door bumper strip... Had to see the funny side, 'cos normally their service is spot on. To be fair, they did fill the tank with fuel afterwards to compensate me driving up and down!

Is Scotswood Road still known locally as Sniper Alley?

Polo was using to much oil. Went in and they asked if they could use it through the day to add miles and measure its usage through a week. I agreed.
Phone call later in the week telling me they had hit a badger.....a nocturnal animal!
One of the sales man had been taking it home and ripped the bumper off hitting the badger.
I asked to see the car and thoug it would be at their own body shop.
No, it was in Sunderland at a backstreet body shop!
Why I asked?
We wanted the quickest possible turnaround I was told.
Having went to see the car they had tried to repair the damage without my knowledge but a lot of the fixings had been damaged.
Got a couple of months payments paid for by them and put a new block in for the oil consumption.
I went to Chester as they had offers advertised on their website and were willing to give me a lot more for my part ex.
Nothing but goods things thus far :)

Chriscav: Make sure you come home on the side roads, if that new GTD (or is it a GTI?) is run in sitting at 70/75mph sat on the motorway you'll likely glaze your bores, resulting in crap power, crap economy and high oil consumption. I once bought a Golf MK5 GT 140TDI from VW Crewe via "UKNEWCARS" and drove it straight down to Southampton to see relatives and it ran like a dog, using a litre of oil every 1000 miles. Every other TDI (5 others) I have owned have been run in with varied driving through the gears and at a variety of engine speeds up to 3500rpm and have never used a drop of oil between services as well as having good power and economy close to the combined figures on short journeys, exceeding it on the motorway doing 80mph average speeds.

Yeah. I've had a few new cars to run in but never such a journey when the engine so new. It's a gti. Ill just keep swapping cogs so the engines full rev range is used. Obviously wont bounce it off the limiter mind.
Thanks for the advice though.....just don't know which back roads lead me back to Newcastle.

Chriscav: Maybe get it up to Carlisle on minor back roads then across the A69 via Hexham?
What kind of deal did you get in the end? Mine was: Paid list price but got £850 more than Parkers for my part-ex, free 3 years service pack and free back to invoice GAP. If it wasn't for limited allocation for GTI/GTD at this early stage i'd have been looking for at least £1000 off the new car as well as all of the above. Benfield fell well short of what Pulman gave.

Good idea actually.
Paying 400 upfront. My part ex is now roughly what I owe.
Getting the car for 25200 after the performance pack has been added along with white so financing 24800 on PCP.
