So, a 3 plus year happy relationship means I've lost my physique. I used to be fairly toned and athletic. Now the mrs has left, I've decoded the best way for me to stop moping around it to get back into shape.
Problem is, I'm not into the same routine I was into and lot does not interest me now I'm older. (Skating). To be fair I was too old back then, haha.
Currently around 14 st 10 and 6 ft. Maybe even 15 st.
The scales scare me.
What I need is the resident forum beefcake to give me some ideas on what I should and shouldn't be Eating, and what sort of exercise I should be focusing on to
Lose weight - my aim is 12.5 st
Tone up, maybe build a little upper body mass.
I'm hitting the gym hard now, and have cut out all happy relationship food. Pizza, mcd etc.
Problem is, I'm much more unfit than I thought. Ugh.
Help

I always follow up a gym session with a high protein meal, such as roast chicken or salmon. I hadn't been in the gym for 18months, and although I had lost definition, a decent diet has prevented me from putting on any weight in that time. I'm now back in the gym (after splitting with the ex), and a bit of persistence shows great rewards! That's the best bit about the gym, the harder you work, the more visible the improvement!
As for the skating, what kind?? I used to play Roller Hockey and aggressive inline

My area!
I am a Mod on a large Steroid site, not saying you should use steroids but we cover all types of Bodybuilding so know a few things!
Main thing to remember......70% is diet and 30% is training. Few little tips. Never train for more than 45 mins in the gym or you will tap in to your CNS. Work one large and one small muscle group each time you train. Never train more than 4 days a week to start with. Due to your weight and height, aim for 250-270g of protein per day and no more than 400g of carbs. Keep clear of the crap, white bread, sugar, pasta, white rice and those terrible take-aways, although once cutting up you should eat crap one day out of seven as it shocks the body thus keeps the met' rate high.
PM me if you want me to do you a diet. Can get you looking good for summer as it is just around the corner

I train 3 times a week and I tend to train ....
Monday - chest & triceps.
Wednesday - back & biceps.
Friday - shoulders & traps.
Yes I know I'm not at the moment training legs but my legs are big and in good shape due to years of downhill mountin biking.
The previous posts are correct get your diet right I am currently focusing on 6 meals a day and high protein diet.
This means ill have weatabix in the morning and a protein shake with 50g of powdered oats about 2 hours later. Then around lunch time ill have a jacket pot with tuna and sweetcorn or chicken breast and brown rice or mixed veg. Then two hours after that Ill have a banana and another protein shake but without oats this brings me to 4 meals so far. Then I'll hit the gym on a training day and after gym I will have another protein shake (meal number 5) then I will go home and cook a stake or have something similar to my cooked meal I had at lunch time at this point it's normally about 8-9ish after which point I won't eat after that.
I am currently cutting and I have only just this week started this diet. I currently weigh 87.1kg (13st 4) and I'm about 5.11"" and I measured up last week and most of my weight is muscle mass. I don't use any steroids or growth I have been training just under a year now and I still feel like need to lose some weight I too am hoping to hit 12.5st by April 25th as I'm going on holiday lol.
Another thing I do is after each gym session I go on the treadmill and do about 20-30mins or fat burning what I mean by this is I don't run I do a brisk walk bringing my heart rate upto 126 at my age (28) and body type this means when my heart rate is at 126 my body goes into fat burning mode. Any higher and I will hit cardio status meaning my body will break down mussle as well as fat which I do not want.
I will also fit in some ab work too.
Also the reason I am on a high protein diet and eating 6 meals is because by having more meals my body goes into "high miltablisium" (crap spelling I know) meaning it use up energy faster etc the high protein means my body will hold onto the protein and use the fat on my body for energy (I think).
Hope this helps :)

Nice Nino
A few things if you don't mind me saying.......You dont have any days where you train your legs? This is common but legs are essential to train as training legs releases more free natural Test then any other body part, plus with a nice upper body how will you look with your trousers off
Also....swap your chest/tri to chest/bi's then bring in your tri days with your back days
Diet looks good
Glad you are keeping clear of the gear due to you training for just a year. If you really want to use it wait until you have been training at least 3 years and do as much research as you can, knowledge is power. You will here the name 'Dianabol' being used a lot in gyms. This is a great steroid for mass building but highly faked and also many guys run it without Test, just plain mad.
Keep as you are bud, you are doing good.
-
Thanks for the reply bud. There is a reason i train bicepts with back and its mainly because i will do 3 sets on lat pull down at a heavy 72kg (well its heaving for me lol) i get about 6-8 reps out i then do seated rows and i find this works my bicept secondary and my cuz has done si much research on everythung u would think hes a trained personal tranier lol and he said its best to train the misscle with the secondary workout if that makes sence? I do plan on getting legs in at some point but i am lucky as i have big legs due to my biking days :)
I will never touch any kind of steroids i would much prefer knowing i did it natually beside my protein shakes and creatine (which i have now stopped the creatine) i saw it turn one of my beat mates into a complete tit and we didnt speak for two years. Also its funny when u see there faces when ur half there size lifting the sane weight lol :D

I feel your pain on the getting ripped front. You saw me a year ago, I'm a nice guy, but I'm a fat f**k. So since the beginning of the year I've been doing something about it.
Nutrition and gym. Like Godzilla said, it really is about food, just going to the gym and doing weights / exercising isn't enough. I eat at a calorie deficit of about 400/500 calories and it equates to about a lb a week. Make sure to eat from whole food sources (chicken, beef, veg, etc.) and stick to a 4/6 week routine at the gym, then change it up. Do weights and a little cardio, weights will help to build your muscle and burn calories, cardio will get you fitter and increase stamina whilst losing calories.
I've seen a fairly good change in the last two months by losing about a stone, I can't see muscles well yet as I'm still a fatty but going from 15 and a half stone to about 14 and a half in two months, I'm well chuffed. At some point it will get to a stage I stop losing weight as muscle will be getting heavier but I'll still be losing fat, so photos are key at intervals too to see the progress in that way (along with measurements - no not your thingy).
There was a lot of reading up on stuff like this as it can get quite advanced but help from others and having a good mindset is the things driving me. I am just fed up of being a fat nob, and yes I have a girlfriend but I'm doing this to make myself feel and look better.
-
i need to get my arse into gear and up the gym ,went fri and didnt realise how unfit i have become ,probaly never been this unfit ,just struggling for motivation ,i used to go out on my mountain bike every day doing bout 15 miles of road and cross country ,now i cba to even ride to work lol
must try harder

Nino.....I get the idea of your workout now. For your bi's checkout '21s' they are bicep killers, got mine from 16.2 to 18's, I was on stuff at the time but the workout 21's is amazing. When you say your friend took creatine and became a complete-a-hole, sure he was not taking a steroid called Trenbolone or Equiopose as these can make the nicest guys turn into aggressive a-holes! I used Tren' once, sod that....One shot was enough. I turned from a placid guy in to a complete nob! There again many think Testosterone does the same thing, majority of times it does not, I am very chilled on Test' and take 250mg of Enanthate weekly to keep my levels up as I shut myself down after abusing steroids heavily in my 20's, I am late 30's now and without Test' my levels are the same as an 85 year old Man thus me having to take Test for the rest of my life.
Shady.....By the sounds of it you have done really well and look good to me. A good one bud is to have no carbs after 4pm, keep your protein levels high though. When you train.....train hard, even if you feel sick or are sick carry on and you will be greeted with great results. Many times I have chucked up in the gym, never passed out but thought I was going to a good few times!
ps.....Boot build looking great, will send you some pics

Sorry mate I ment when my friend was on steroids lol as for 21's I'd just about get two reps off them lol where as 17.5 I get a very difficult 6-8 lol

As for your friend taking gear and becoming a tw@t, well that shows he was not ready, or to be very honest an a-hole to begin with.

inndeed, Cheers for the video, will try that tonight however Why is it called 21's? the guy does 3 sets of 6 = 18 reps should be called 18's

Stay away from the gear then that's normal for me as no one does in my gym I use, instant ban for users as its a natural gym with lots of people competing in natural competitions.
Eat right, sleep right & train right

Thanks for all the tips guys. Wasn't aware of the fat burn @ 126bpm.
I'm so focused right now, but my problem is that I want instant results
I am not patient. It annoys me so much that I am 2-2.5 st heavier than I was at 25.
-
My advice would be not to change your diet too drastically just yet.
Just start going out for jogs/do some weight. From experience if you go in hard with a full on routine and strict diet you'll quickly loose enthusiasm for it all and likely just loose the effort all together.
Enjoy going out for the runs and doing weight excerses, then when you want to really start seeing results start stripping back your diet.
That works for me because naturally I'm a lazy person haha. If I went balls out and stopped eating everything I enjoy and had a full on work out routine I would have burnt out months ago. Now I actually enjoy doing my fitness and now thinking about how I eat a lot more to really refine the results.

Kerrse......How do you know all the guys and girls at your gym are natural mate? Unless it is a small gym or a gym that is aimed at keep fit rather than bodybuilding then that is understood, anything to do with Bodybuilding these days there will be Steroids involved. The gym I go to, well the majority are honest and will say that they are on this or that, the occasional guy will say he is natural when he is not, I don't understand these guys, why lie if they are on something? Very common ways of telling!! The person starts to lift heavier weight in a short period of time, the person will gain body mass a lot faster, mild acne on the upper back, slight water retention around the jaw line.....Plus any girl in the gym no matter how old, fat, ugly will be under threat from the user as you want to sh@g everything!.....Some of the girls I have been with over the years, makes me feel ill just thinking about it......But my Test levels were high and I would go with whoever/wherever/whatever was easy
Ninja....If you want results instantly then go on Winstrol @ 50mg ED, Clens at 50mg ED and Proviron @ 25mg ED.....Run this for 4 weeks.....You will loose around 2 stone and your abs will come out a treat!!
On a serious note bud as I know you want to go natural......Work out what you are eating, lower your carbs, up your cardio. If you have a dog that is great. I have an American Bulldog and he comes out with me every morning at 6.30 for a 30 min brisk walk.
Do this for yourself bud......Train hard, sleep at least 8 hours per night, eat very well.....I know I just said do it for yourself but when or if you see your ex a few months down the line she will be like 'Oh my days, look how good he looks' The feeling is lovely mate, trust me

Hey, sorry to hear of the split.
Whatever you do, drink plenty of water!!! It helps the body work properly, hardly anyone actually drinks enough water. it'll help your body get rid of the toxins you're releasing into your bloodstream as you hit the gym hard.
I've found recently that lots of little exercise has been good for me as well as cutting down on portion sizes and eating more fruit and veg. It's really helping lose the weight and i'm only doing 5 to 10 minutes (usually just 5) high intensity training every morning and night as well as general activity, a few games of squash here and there plus working about in the garage/cleaning the cars.
My routine consists of 1 minute hillclimbers, 1 minute situps, 1 minute hillclimbers, 1 minute leg raises and various other combinations with the odd different minute of things in there like: static squat presses with dumb bells of various weights or a minute of pushups. No breaks for your 5 to 10 minutes though!
So far i've lost a stone since January and I could have lost more if it wasn't for illness stopping me from doing it for a few weeks. It has a cumulitive effect so the longer you keep going, as in a week, a month etc every morning and night then it keeps your motabilism higher for longer. After a couple of weeks you might only lose a pound or two but after 4 weeks it's half a stone then 6 weeks it's a stone etc, really tones you up too.
Sorry, I appear to have written a bloody book here... haha
All the best,
Chris

I'm feeling the same at the mo, not trained for a good 4 years due to starting a family etc.. poor excuse I know but you get comfortable
I'm looking to get back to the gym soon, not necessarily weights just yet but a mix of both to begin with to lose this paunch I've developed and about 10kg off my weight (5ft 10" and currently 90kg)
So far I've had good and bad days with cutting the crap foods out. My best move was making sure I drink plenty of water, keeps the snack cravings at bay.
Any suggestions for a good breakfast? I'm thinking some porridge?

Can't believe you have someone in here endorsing gear! Don't bother with gear unless you want your endocrine system fooked up. Do you wanna have to take Viagra everytime you want a hard on? And have shrunken balls? :embarrassed:
Too many people are lazy and don't wanna put the time and work in. Or wait to allow the body to develop to its potential.
Genetics plays a big part too. Don't expect to be muscular if you haven't got the body type.

I've got the perfect frame pal. Broad shoulders. Naturally slim... When I don't eat sh!te. 6ft. Long legs/torso.

Endorsing gear, well that is interesting! I would not advise anyone to use gear, I only advise those who are on it on how to use with care to minimise side effects and recovery. On our forum we get many newbies who just want to jump on gear with no knowledge, really is shocking. As for buggering up your endo' system, errrr, PCT will resume matters within 21-25 days unless you are not in the know like I was in my 20's and did no PCT thus shut myself down and now on TRT dose for the rest of my days.
Genetics does play a huge role I must say. Diet is the most important thing, as we always say.....abs are made in the kitchen and not the gym.

It is a bodybuilding & strong man gym, yes it a fairly small gym http://www.bodybionicgym.co.uk/ (http://www.bodybionicgym.co.uk/) but it's not tiny. Everyone pretty much knows everyone, the owner competes in natural bodybuilding comps, on the strong man side they have people competing as well.
As you said it's very easy to spot people using gear & they soon disapeer from the gym, never to been seen there again. I have been training there on & off since it opened and there isn't many of the original faces still around

Sounds like endorsement to me. Did he ask " What can I inject I to my arse or swallow to get me ripped? "
Also if you wouldn't have taken the gear in the first place you wouldn't have to inject test into yourself on a regular basis.
Once someone starts on gear it's very hard to stop because your training/results and feeling you get whilst on them far outweigh what you feel like when your off them.
Too many people just want a course to get big then continue for on extra courses for years after.
If people want to take em, it's their choice but I personally never needed them. Even though I've been accused if being on them many times.
-
I'm looking at going onto roids as my endocrine system is a lot fooked!!! If the dose is high enough by summer i could be ripped
(I've lost 8kg in 6 months! maybe I should change my name to superboneybradley!)

Sorry I must admit that came across wrong, I should have put a 'lol' or something at the end of that about using Winstrol etc.
Only reason I am on Test for the rest of my life is I never did any PCT, never really knew about it back in the early 90's when I first started. Always wonder how Arnie carried on in the 70's as they never had PCT then, infact there were only 3 different types of steroids around.....Arnie was a huge fan of Dianabol though and admits it now. The NHS does help me to an extent, they provide me with 'Testo-Gel' which raises my levels a tad, but I self medicate with Enanthate at 250mg per week, this keeps my levels in the 'normal' range for my age, plus a load of other benefits, my Dr is fine with this as long as I get my bloods done every 3 months to check everything is good. Interesting that in the States they have started taking bloods from guys going in to the Dr's saying they feel low, irritable, low sex drive, poor erection quality, anxiety etc etc.....Normally the Dr would put them on an Anti-d or an anti anxiety med' but studies are showing though that some of these Males are low in Test, so they are prescribed Test only for these guys to feel a huge difference in 2-4 weeks. Makes me wonder how many guys in the UK are like this, yet as soon as you mention the word 'Testosterone' to a Dr he or she will look at you with disgust, yet if a female needs HRT they don't think twice about putting her on it!?!?!

Most people don't use PCT. a guy I used to train with did a course of tren. Sweated buckets and full of spots. Then stopped. Didn't like how much strength he'd lost so started on another course in no time. After that course he must have crashed. He also tore a muscle during that time and he couldn't lift 60kg on the bench. With all that going on he was in a state if depression. Next thing I know he's different again. Back on the gear. He didn't really change much either.
I did some research for him and realised he hadn't done a PCT. His supplier didn't give him any advice on PCT, liver protection etc.
Terrible business this self medication of gear because people can't put the effort in. And they are getting younger too.

I cant touch Tren', used it once. Made me very anxious, night sweats, libido trouble, aggressive.....Horrible drug. Some of the guys on our forum do very well off it with not one side effect. PCT is essential on any highly Anabolic steroid, androgenic, well sometimes you can get away with it.
I have to self medicate now.....If I don't I become anxious, irritable, feel low, tired etc......Typical signs of Low Test levels. This was from 'abuse' in the 90's.....There is 'using' and 'abusing' Anything if taken with care and in moderation is ok. In fact Dianabol at 5mg per day used over 12 months showed great improvements in the elderly with osteoporosis......That is 5mg per day, most Bodybuilders will do 40-50mg per day, I was doing 80mg per day along with others back in the day and this was being run for 12 weeks then stop! Once stopped I felt horrific as was not on any PCT so until my own Test levels kicked back in I was basically a woman! Trouble is my body could only take so much before permant shut down to which I was found to have in 2008. Live and learn and now I help others on our forum to as best as I can. Many years of reading and trial and error. We had a lad the other week join, he put down what he was eating and how he trained, all seemed good. He wanted to know about starting a course, I replied 'How old are you' I got back '14' It is getting crazy now, we have a few 16 year olds on there, as much as you tell them not to touch gear and what the long term effects will be they always seem to know best and will come back in a few weeks saying 'I am now on this and that and my weight has gone up' There is no helping some people

I'd recommend Men's Health Build A Cover Model Body. It's £9.99 and you can buy it in supermarkets or through their iPad app. It covers both nutrition and training - it's very user friendly and is aimed at complete novices. I'd never successfully weight trained before - I'd always been quite fit through playing football and running but never been able to put on any muscle - but I've seen results from following this guide since new year.

I am very unfit 28yr old not trained since baby came along she is 4 this year
Don't have time for the gym anymore
Am slowly buying gym equipment
I also got given some dvds p90x looks good anyone used it?
I really need to build core up in my back 8 years of valeting wrecked it gives me grief
I think been unfit and lazy has not helped anytips on building it up once that's done
I need to nail cardio before I hit weights or give p90x a shot
-
Any suggestions for a good breakfast? I'm thinking some porridge?
Currently I'm drinking powdered oats (from myprotein) with milk and some hot chocolate powder for taste. Fills me and powers me for a few hours.

Heard good things about p90x. Also, if you're looking to build muscle cardio is not the way to go. Unless its low intensity.

Can still build muscle and do cardio, not combined but certainly in the shape of a circuit. If you're getting started I'd recommend going to a gym so you can see other people workout and see their form, especially on exercises like deadlifts, squats and cleans. Start off by having a plan, rather than turning up to the gym and using every machine there. Say, monday back, tuesday shoulders, wednesday chest, thursday arms, friday core & legs, doing some cardio as a warmup and cooldown. The most common fail I see at work is inexperienced people attempting to do a full body workout on every machine not only using bad form but also using machines that hardly work the target part, like the abs machine, god I hate that thing...Only old people, beginners and teenagers use it.
Start off light focusing on good posture and form and increase the weight from there on. If you want to build strength load up the bar/dumbell with enough weight to just about do 4-6 reps. If you're looking for size then load it up with enough weight to do 6-10 reps and if you want definition use a lower weight and do 12-16 reps. Train a specific body part per session, don't suddenly go from doing some bent over back row to doing legs for example, focus on working all the muscles on that session, so if it's back do shoulder press/shrugs for the top, bent over row/lat raises/front raises/flys for the middle and deadlift for the lower back.
Cardio wise do interval training. So if you're on the treadmill for example, start off with a warmup obviously, slow walk into a gentle jog, then do 1 minute sprint ~17kph and back down to 13kph to recover for another minute, then back on the sprint for another minute and so on. That'll get your endurance to a semi decent level in no time. Don't bother with cross trainer, I find that useless and effortless, it's mainly momentum in my opinion. Stick to treadmill, bike, rower and swimming. Swimming will be great as you have to learn to control the breathing, so it'll help you more than the others, and with the swim you're also working the entire body. Legs, core and upper body. Do for example 1 length sprint front crawl and use the length back to recover, either a slower front crawl or breast stroke, preferably slow front crawl, breast stroke is for for weak regulars.

My routine is...
Low intensity cardio, mostly weights. My reasoning for this is that muscles contain the most calories, so when doing high intensity cardio the body naturally burns muscle for easy access to fuel. However, by lifting and working muscle ground you're effectively telling your body "don't burn these muscles, they are needed".
So, the body turns to fat reserves. Result? I've gained definition, lost weight and increased my strength. I'm also on a high protein diet. Think, prawns, tuna, cottage cheese.. For muscle rebuilding.

I used to go to a gym I don't have the time now setting one up in my garage
Routine was warm up on treadmill
Then monday chest biceps
Wednesday bi and tri
Friday back shoulders
Sat morning legs
I never had a set diet just a protein shake
Just need to work on lower back before I start

1. 250ml water in a blender
2. 1 scoop of Gaspari Myosin/optimum whey/Sci mx (either brands are great)
3. 5 egg whites
4. Half cup of porriage oats
5. Scoop peanut butter (sugar free)
You can also throw in a banana.
This is a great post workout shake. I used this in my competition days

Anyone recommend something similar to this:
http://www.ukfitnesssupplies.co.uk/products-Powertec-Isolateral-Workbench-Multipress-Light-Commercial_PTWBMP-13.htm
Looking for a bench press machine, has to be plate loaded. Dont have a spotter so one of these is required
Anything else out there, around 550 budget
