Title: Edition 35 value
Post by: Ed35 chunk on 08 February 2013, 22:43
Selling the gti 35  dealer will give me 22.5 k for the car so I've lost 8.5k in less then a year, I think that is a big drop and was thinking maybe 26500??

Give Lee a shout (evo) he's not too far away from you is he? He'll give you an honest price assessment.

Not sure what they are on the forecoourts at but a dealer will want at least a couple of thousand in their margin ?

That's not a bad price imo after looking at a trade book.
Go on pistonheads classifieds and do some research....

Isn't the crude rule of thumb that most cars lose 50% of their value in the first 3 years, with year 1 being the largest percentile drop?

Figures from the dealer dont surprise me, private sale is the best way to yield the highest value but may take longer to sell.

Sell it private and you will get £2k more than what the stealer is offering.

Is that a price for the dealer to just buy the car from you for cash?

If that's the case, don't expect to be offered anymore than he would pay at auction for one. Why would he pay anymore for a car than he absolutely needs to? If you've gone to him, you are automatically on the back foot when it comes to negotiation.

You would be better off advertising it on Auto Trader at about £25,000, with a view to accepting a bit less. It will probably still be bought by a trader, but one with lower overheads that will not be so greedy when it comes to making a profit on it.

If you paid £31k for the car, it will loose the VAT the minute your name goes on the log book. That makes it £25,800. Take off another £3000 for depreciation and your at £22,800. So to be fair, he has offered you a realistic amount.

I think thats a fair offer and i'd rip is hand off with the problems you have had. I think you will struggle to get 25k private as you can get one off a dealer for that and thats before haggling.

i think you need to be in for 3 years on end of line GTIs to not get to big a hit

mk7 on its way, dealers discounting remaining stock, question is are buyers going to be put off on a private cash sale

Buying new cars make no financal sense what so ever, unless you keep them for ever. At least then you get the spec you want and can be sure it's not been modding, broken, fixed then broken again by it's one previous owner.

Sorry to hear you're selling. What's next?

Wtf?? dubber makes a valid point, buying new makes no financial sense, if you buy new you buy with your heart not your head unless it's a looong term investment.

I second that but taking the pi$$ out of someone's misfortune with a car is a bit below the belt in my book.

It was a bit of banter which it seems the person it was aimed at took as it was intended, unlike you for some reason.

Bit below the belt  thats all was my opinion to Jimble on your joke, but Ed35chunk's reply was better, Alan Carr etc especially when i noticed your Pink car.

As a guide for prices, a dealer near me have their demo ED35 up for £23,500 retail and it's got a few extras fitted. So I'm sure there will be room to manoeuvre with them.
My GTI would have cost £32k new and is now probably worth less than £18k at less than two years old.

Painful stuff if you finance your own cars!!

I bought mine brand new on Sept 1st.  This was my 1st new car.I must admit, I said that I would never buy brand new but I can see the appeal.  At least I know no one has farted on the seats lol.

To justify buying new, I decided that I will be keeping it long term (ie 7/8 years+) to get some value for money......

Also remember optional extras are a killer. You will get half your money back at best but only on leather, satnav and gear box. Anything that's not listed in the cap guide is lost money straight away unless you sell it private. I lost £7000 in six months on my gti with dsg and leather in white which should have helped with px my price.

When I was selling my 335d in BMW they offered me a px price then I told him the spec including optional £2200 profesional satnav and £1000 harmon kardon, he said its not worth anymore because people expect them to have satnav and a good stereo. Strange how its not like that when our buying a used car. Thieves!!!!!
