So with me loving the SDI due to economy etc and pure abusing cheapness, I want to keep it as the family sh!tter.
However, it's got no carpet is pretty uncomfortable and nasty.
So I've seen some absolute bargain 4 motions. Talking like grands and under! I'm going to be needing to transoort my mum to London soon for treatment so will be back and forward etc and the MK4 is just uncomfortable and loud etc.
What sort of MPG do they get on a run, are they half pokey? I fully enjoyed my girlfriends Ka the other day and it felt like a Ferrari just to give an idea.
Just looking for something thqt will pull on the motorway and be comfortable.
Cheers.

Id be enquiring more about why they are bargains

Assuming fuel plus insurance. Have to admit 200 quid more and I could insure an R32.
If they're terrible on fuel I'll just spend the money on an interior wheels and suspension on the SDI.

There is nothing wrong with a 4 mo mate fuel is not much worse than a 1.8t and it depends on your driving insurance maybe only a couple hundred more but u won't find an r32 as cheap obviously... If the 4mo is mega cheap I would be checking mileage and if chains have been done and the haldex has been looked after!! Very underrated cars love mine to bits!!

Okay cheers guys.
Just throwing ideas around really. Thinkong buy a cheaper one and use it then get rid make a few quid on it.
Need something quicker and more comfortable than this SDI!

Was having a look at one today, only when the MOT history didn't match I didn't pursue it any further!
So tempting as seem to have so many toys for the money.

+1 i come from a mapped 1.8t mk4 and dont notice much fuel difference be honest. 4mo us lot more fun and love mine too. Not had it long tho. they are heavy cars but power is thrown out well. As said have good look around if one is going for mega cheap saying thy the 1.8t ans 4mos seem to have come down in price a lot
-
I've only ever driven one 2.8 4MO, and I didn't find it as quick or as fun to drive as my 1.8T. The only 2.8 that ever impressed me was charged and it had a non res Milltek, now that was nice.
I've never even found .:R32s that much fun to drive, although the sound really makes up for the slight lack of power
-
Hmmm can't say I agree I have driven both and apart from suspension I preferred the 4mo... My friend has an anni and the 4mo is faster not by much I will add
-
What's the tax like on a 4mo?
-
270 ish for the year :lipsrsealed:
-
I have a 4motion and love it! fuel is not great on short runs but ok on long runs but if fuel worries you sticcccck with the oil burner! that's why my family drive is a 2.0 16valve Touran  the v6 feel sluggish at time because the engine is smooth and does it's stuff effortlessly! a few tweaks makes them a serious motor for not a lot of cash.
-
Map it and its even smoother with better power delivery! Barry can vouch for that

Ouch!! :lipsrsealed:
-
tax depends on what year it is ,as it went up after 2001 ,but mines a x reg (2000) and i pay the same price in tax as i did with the mk3 8v.iirc it was £123 for 6 months
does a map make that much difference as someone said to me they didnt on the 4mo ?
-
From what i have read with other v6 build threads and In my friends 4mo it feels better to drive power delivery is smoother most people only care about bhp which is why they say it doesn't make a huge difference and they are right u won't see much gains but for me the drive after was worth it it will be getting remapped once I decat it
-
cheers mate, will have a look into it as not fussed about power gains ,and if it makes the delivery even smoother ,sounds good to me
-
They are much better with a map

Slightly off topic but you mentioned tax price on a 4 motion I happened to see a mk5 R32 parked up yesterday and the tax on that thing was £445

was it an 06 sure thats when they changed
-
Think thats a pretty steap tax price just for a R32 fair enough if its a Porsche or some other high performance car..
-
all to do with it being 4wd ,the feckers  ,went up first in 2001 and then even more in 2005 iirc
will be having a look int a map me thinks lol
-
Any mk5 R32 registered between 18/11/05 - 23/03/06 is £270 for 12 months. Any Mk5 r32's registered after 23/03/06 are £475 for 12 months tax.
All mk4 R32 / 4 motions are £270 (2012) / £290 (2013)
Never driven a 4 motion but on paper they seem a big lump of a car for 200bhp. If i was to own one i would stick a set of coilovers on and upgrade the anti roll bars to stiffen it up a little maybe.
