I'm at the dealers trying to get a bulb warning light off, just changed my led rears back to standard as I'm getting rid of the car, and the buld out light has come on saying check rear left and right sidelights. Dealer can't figure it out so has had to send a dis report to VW. As usual they can't solve a problen, has anyone got any ideas so I can tell them their job, thanks
-
Did you save the original settings when before you adjusted them after fitting the LEDs Paul?
On my 09 car I had the bulb out no matter what when the LEDs were fitted but when I put the standard ones back on before VCDS adjustment they worked fine with no warning lights but were just a bit dimmer than before (a bit like me really!!)
-
When i fitted mine Steve P came round to do the coding, but i got no bulb out warning, which he was surprised at, may have been as i had some software update done just before i fitted them to do with the alarm going off.
I know there is alot of talk about needing a new bcm on 09 cars to stop the bulb out error, but i seem to be having the problem the other way around after i have put the original lights back on, it says check rear left and right side lights.
Dealer cant solve it so waiting again now for the dis repport answer from VW. I just wanted the car all sorted before its part exed on the 12th, dont want any excuse for the garage to try and knock down the price they have offered me, might have to leave the lights switched off and if they turn the lights on, play the inocent"its never done that before"
Just dont like to pass on the problem to someone else

Byte 18 was at a value of '00' before I coded my LED's in.....BUT... If you google 'VW Byte 18' it's not as simple as resetting this to '00'....bit of trial and error by the sounds of it sadly with VCDS.
-
Thanks, just trying to give my VW dealer abit of direction, as they dont what to do. Sure it should be the other way around.
-
Well i will see what the garage come back with, but i bet i have to memtion about Byte 18 to them.
-
I don't know what the setting for oem is as 00 is a cover valve that hides the true valve.
For some reason 2009 and 2010 cars had byte 18 hidden from the factory but later cars don't.

They might be funny if they know you had LED's and messed about with VAG.COM especially if they can't fix it normally.
-
Basically they need the factory code for the central electric unit BCM the same code they would use if replacing the unit.
How you would relay this without it causing an issue for yourself I'm not sure.
The other option is contact Ross Tech and ask them what the oem value for RHD is.
They are often active on the vwvortex forum.
Or ask stevep what he set his too when he sold it.
-
Ive said a VW garage coded the LED,s when i fitted them before i moved, so just waiting for the garage to get the answer from their dis report to VW. Surely it cant be that hard for VW to let a dealer know the original settings for standard 09 plate lights.
We shall see over the next day or so, i have read a fair bit from ross tech about setting the Byte 18 values back to standard 00 but having to then set some other numbers, lets see if VW can work that out.

Heres the coding from mine its a April 2010 I hope it can help.

Although looking at this mine is set to 00 which maybe is no help if it is masking the original value. If its really massive problem I can always send them back to you (once of course parcel force delivery for a refund of course).

There is a post on tise forum somewere that links to a pdf that lists the settings for all vw brand models. I think Mike posted it.
-
I believe from reading here you need to set it to 03 then 00. To make it back to stock look and operation. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4898893-LED-tail-Install-with-or-without-Rear-Fog./page2 (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4898893-LED-tail-Install-with-or-without-Rear-Fog./page2)

Aj,
Thanks, no real prob the car is getting part exed on the 12 th, just wanted it sorted by then, hopefully the dealer will sort it, they have raised a dis with VW UK. Otherwise it will go as is, i will just make sure i leave the lights on off. Hopefully u should get the LED,s tomorrow, enjoy. Mine certainly looks rubbish without them.
-
You have got me wondering what mine will need to be and I think for a 0575 module its 15. But I am wondering the same issue of when that day comes what do i set it back too, if I can be bothered of course. I have a VCDS so I can experiment, although I certainly dont want to brick my BCM9. Although I have read some posts that seem to suggest the newer module needs no coding for them to work ok.
-
Your rite, when i fitted mine Stevep was surprised i didn't need a new bcm when he looked at the coding, as mine is an 09 car. Somehow i got away with it. Seems strange that a dealer cant sort it without having to raise reports to VW UK though.
-
Paul
From memory you need to set it to 00 but you can't do this directly, you have to set it to say 15 first then to 00 and it'll keep it at that value.
-
So what i can work out Byte 18 is the 18th pair of number or letter combinations from the left in the long code, not including the first 2 for some reason. I looked on the vw vortex forum and that seems to be how it works, just want to get it clear in my head when i go back to the dealers if they still are clueless in a day or so.
-
^^Yes.
First set is Byte 00 then 01 so Byte 18 is the 19th pair.
-
Thanks, thought i was going mad reading through all the codes on Vortex.
-
Well i got a call from the dealers today, they have been given the correct long code for my car after the report they raised with VW UK, so hopefully the lights will be sorted. Just got to get to the dealers next week to get it coded.
-
It will be interesting to know what it is, at least they can sort it.
-
I will have a chat with the technician and find out what the Byte 18 code is, thats if it works of course.
