Title: spluttering motor
Post by: GTi_James on 23 November 2012, 08:34
hey guys,

noticed a couple of times in the last month that on first start up the engine will splutter and eventualy die if i dont rev up. however on second start up its fine  :undecided:

now im expecting as good as ive given in the last posts

just wondering if its a cold weather issue, also only mananged to do 90miles on half a tank  would the pipercross panel cause a fuel draught with my car?

It's due to the seasonal weather that we're experiencing.

I find that at this time of year, the GTi needs a shot of port in the tank with every refill and a dashing of duck fat over the air filter once a fort night.

If that doesn't help then you'll need a stick on ginger beard and make use of dancing elves to tease it into a regular behavior pattern, it ought to iron things out within half a week, but you'll need to continue treatment until mid March time.

i thought that smearing with duck fat is bad for a pipercross bake, i'll have to feed it some holiday cheer at the next dinner time then. And i dont suppose you know where to find a troop of dancing elves do you? the ones at the bottom of the garden have grown shoddy and dont fancy asking father christmas for a few to spare as i've asked for a miltek suprise already so far so dont want to push my luck and i dont fancy the ginger bread option

Well you've got to ask yourself, does the way you've been driving warrant 15-18mpg? If not you've got something very wrong.

well, i keep between 2K and 2.5K on the gear changes so i wouldnt thought it was that, and i drive like an old fart around town and only floor it when on motor ways to over take, what could it be i wonder? there is a smell of fuel from the back end whilst on idle, wonder if theres a faulty sensor somewhere maybe?  :undecided:

Yep definitely an issue there. Check you haven't got a massive hole in your exhaust somewhere.

Yeah I wasn't sure if they knew what they were talking about, so I went to a few other places, showed them the two holes and they said it were fine too.
