Title: Little update on my 16v anni, 6m on
Post by: Leroy on 30 October 2012, 09:51
Exciting times!

Sold the 8v Anni in the sig pic on saturday for a measley £1000. The guy that bought it was well chuffed, but i can't help but feel hes got alot of car there for the money, hes an enthusiast and a nice bloke though so i feel ok him owning my pride and joy for the last 3 years and i know he'll look after it.

Now ive Sorned the 16v while i sold the 8v, but should have had the welding done by this weekend and be taxed and MOT'd. Pic below shows what the 16v looks like. Just looking for peoples opinion, do you think i should have sold my near perfect 8v for this:

I think you did the right thing, wont take much to get this as good as the 8v and youll have a very nice rare car

I would exactly as above, But then again the 16V is much more rarer than the 8V, But with abit of TLC, It'll look like new, so all the best & good luck... Keep us updated

Think you will be OK- mine was bit rough when I bought it, but now it has been detailed, the wheels refurbed and serviced up to date it is a really great looking car and drives spot on.

Only problem with mine that I don't like is a rust scab on lower drivers door which I don't know how to sort out..

I've got a scab on the wing so think I'm just going to find a new wing rather than repair it.

Must admit my 8v was in a similar state when I bought it and over time I got it up to scratch so I'll get a thread going for this one.

I know, gutted, but as everyone says on here, mk3's are just not going for much at the moment, even the anni's. The value will start going up soon as they get rarer and everyone will realise what a great car the mk3 is.

Still looking forward to taking the 16v for a spin, should be like sitting in my old car but with 150bhp instead if 115.

16v engine is by far the better option and like said it won't take much to get the new one upto scratch  It's good starting again i'm sure with even just a wash, polish and wax it will look alot better  change your oil, filter and check your coolant for antifreeze before winter and your ready to go

Good advice DragonGreen, picking it up friday afternoon, ive got the auotglym ready, dropped off the new numberplate yesterday as failed MOT, one of Woosh's stubby aerials cus the one on it was tatty as hell, got someone to sand down and respray the rusty grill, joeye'd lights and momo wheel off the 8v have gone on, new shiny 16v badges arrived off ebay last night, im nipping halfords today for the red anni bumper stripe (only front and back bumpers this time not all round), got a bra to put on to cover up the pebble dashed bonnet until i can afford a respray, got an ebay search for new black wing to get rid of that big rust spot. I'll put some pics up when ive done the little bits and bobs.

I'll have it looking better i no time, and i'll have fun doing it as well, think i made the right decision selling the 8v as theres only so much fun you can have polishing your finished car every weekend, i much prefer the tarting them up part.

Couldnt agree more, i get bored when i finish a car and usually end up koving it on for another project..... Got a feeling this one will hang around a while though

When I bought it it looked this this.........

6 months and many £££'s later, it's looking like this.......

Not a great deal done bodywork wise but mechanically spent alot getting it upto scratch ready for the sprayers. had Joms fitted, new febi top mount front and rear, new febi axle bushes, new magnex exhaust, painted calipers again, had grille resprayed, anni stripe back on, full service, cambelt, extensive welding to the floor pan then wax oiled, new brake lines, new starter motor, gearbox mount, nicked the black badges, momo steering wheel and joey'ed lights off my old 8v.

It's running like a dream now, absolute pleasure to drive, just need the rusty bits sorted and its an anni that was going to end up broken for bits and now its back on the road hopefully fo a long time to come.

Good work bud, looks alot cleaner. Although that exhaust is annoying me! needs to be higher into the bumper personally. What do the magnex systems sound like?

Yes i thought that, i had to have a new bracket welded on so it would fit, i was told it came off a 16v but obviously not, (i thought the 8v,16v and vr6 were the same). I think it sticks out a bit far and hangs a bit low, but im skint now so will have to live with it.

It is quieter than the standard one i took off (its only the back box by the way) but that used to rattle like mad, you can tell its on but its not loud at all, gives a nice note when your giving it a bit of throttle though, im happy with it and my neighbours will be as well at 6 in the morning!!! not too in your face.

That's a nice looking Anniversary. What lining tape did you use for the bumpers and trim?

Halfords mate, think its 3 or 5mm, found it on a search on here, does the job.

Looks good but my god sort out that exhaust.  The 8v exhaust is a different size to the 16v and VR6 (which are the same).

Think I may get some of that tape, bring back the red on my bumpers as the pinstripe has faded a fair bit.

Keep up the good work.

i have a magnex cat back with centre box delete on mine , not that loud unless you give it beans and 70+ its loud but can be quiet when you want it to be

to sum up sounds good , want to get a single tip box for mine now as they annoy me how they never sit straight , but made mine fit with the help of my welder and some cuttong here and there , and worried if i get a new box i will end up with some fart cannon !

Cheers for the exhaust feed back guys. I want a new system on mine but dont want anything loud, something a bit raspy on over run ect. I too prefer single exits, purely because all the twin exit systems are too big and look daft.

Twin exits always look good on a MK3

Agreed, had an oval single exit on my 8v stupid loud, looked cool but fancied a change, plus my anni had twin exit exhaust from the factory so its like an uprated version of factory spec. Its a bonus its not too loud until you give it some, you know its there but everyone doesn't think your a chavvy little pr**k!!!

Agreed though, need to have it not hanging so low so it looks less obvious.

Found some spacers in the garage as well so going to space the back out a bit as well so not so tucked, as long as it doesn't cause issues with the arches.

Red coachline is the best.  I tried the halfords one first but it did not last long.  Had the stagecoach stuff

on for over a year now.

Got to agree with my man. Halfrauds stuff is poo. I had mine for over a year and the red has faded away. Also this ebay item is cheaper than halfrauds

Just bought that to refresh mine. Pretty sure mine is still original bumper tape. Got a couple nicks in it too so this should tidy that up for minimal cost. Thanks :)
