Title: anyone running a obx LSD?
Post by: gti_shaun on 17 October 2012, 15:57
as above, ive priced up the quafe one from quafe direct, its for my 02J bov and it comes to £714 inc vat, then i will need the bolt kit at £136 inc vat, bit scary, just read about the obx ones have weak parts, i will be running around 300hp give or take a little.

Or if anyone knows a cheaper place to get a quafe on or a Peloquin from.

OBX may well be fine for manifolds and inlets and things that are solid and don't do much in movement terms, but I'm not sure I'd trust an OBX limited slip diff.

A diff is a pretty serious bit of kit, and my quaife is a work of art.

Perhaps hold out for a second hand quaife ATB or similar instead.

personally id go with a Wavetrac LSD as ive heard people having problems running quaife and peloquin LSD's

the o2j 5 speed box suffers with diff problems (the diff bolts sheering off and coming through the bell housing)

I must admit, my quaife diff has sheered a bolt, although it was put down to the gearbox builder over tightening the studs and causing them to fracture.

With your track record with gear boxes I'm not surprised!
I've got a Quaife fitted and love it. Just save up that bit more it'll be worth it in the long run.

I think the OBX diffs can work well once the little issues have been sorted. They are apparently very similar to a quaife and the material its made of is very hard.
It needs quaife washers and machining slightly to allow it to fit in the box.

I was thinking of getting one. The only problem now with them is they aren't that cheap anymore. When they were £300 delivered it was worth getting them. Now they are £500 odd I can't see it being justified.

Peloquin are copys of quaife, as are OBX due to them not patenting their design. I think wavetrac is the way to go with an ATB diff and you can get them cheap if you search around.

Cheapest option for a Quiaffe diff would be to buy my car - comes witha  free quaiffe already fitted .
I am very happy with the Quaiffe LSD but I know the guys with the uk-mkivs Bora have found the wavetrac option very good aswell.

Looking forward to see what it makes when run in. I need to pull my finger out and get saving for rods.
Are you going to the dynodaze/R-Tech RR day in November?

One big thing for me going Quiafe over Wavetec was buying British and keep my £££ in the UK.

The british alternative to a small FWD turbo'd hatch back?

come on, that's easy!

Has it been left in a field because it's head gaskets blown? To be fair I'd of loved a Maestro turbo when I was younger. Still wouldn't mind a 6R4 either. Look at that photo it makes me wonder what happened to the British car industry?

The metro turbo was epic. I'd love one!
