Now that's quite a hole.. how did you find that?
-
put my head under it today, gosh its big, its going to cost me a fortune, but i have no quotes as car is SORN cant take it out to garage....
-
Hey got a question Itteh, how do you post pictures on the tread?
-
Cut it out and weld in a new piece. It's child play.
No more than £100
I would do that myself for FA
-
As it's in a footwell (I think) it'd be pretty cheap to do. It doesn't have to look good when it's done, just primered inside and undersealed outside - it's not like you see it.. It's the perfect 'learn how to weld' job too ;)
If it were a sill / body panel then it'd be hard and expensive to do. If you were willing to remove carpets/trim yourself and do all the painting etc, you could probably knock the price down a bit at a friendly local garage. Failing that, if you state location, someone on here may do a quick patch job for you..

Im from west yorkshire, i have taken the seats out and the carpet, and pillars as i wanted to wrap the pillars and change the headliner.... and i knew i had the hole, so i thort id throw it on ere and see what the mk3 wizards can advice me....
-
I take it that was the notorious disappearing floor bung. Patch up jobs dont come easier than this tbh.
-
I have a similar crusty bit which i need to sort..... Looking at the comments on here i may give it a bash my self always wanted to learn to weld
-
If you were in Devon I woulda done it for some beer tokens
-
That hole will be a bit bigger by time youve cut back and cleaned up,but yeah as said a nice one to do!
garages vary so much when it comes to welding ,price and quality ,get it done to cheap and you know its going to be crap ,id say £50-60 done properly .
-
Very common problem. You'll probably find a few more bungs are rotted too.

It wasn't that bad, but had to cut it all out.
Passenger side

Drivers side
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v458/tshirt2k/422c8f78.jpg)
Welded in the plate from the inside and smoothed off the welds with a flap disc.
Tacked in drivers side.

Passenger side smoothed off

Both sides, inside and out were cleaned up, sprayed with zinc primer then seam sealed on the welds.

Then the inside was painted with some satin black and the outside was undersealed.

What are the bungs for?
-
id love t know how to do that, il have to give it to a garage, the cars parked up.... wont b on road for another couple months, will it get worse or shud i get it sealed up asap ? as winter is coming, and i have some crust on the bung next to it.... its only drivers side that effed up the passenger side is like brandnew, nothing what so ever... if i get the under neeth sealed with underseal, will that help ?
-
What are the bungs for?
To plug the drainage holes used for when the shell is dipped in primer in the factory. They let any excess drain out. They don't always get sealed properly.

Always wondered, now I know!

Probably literally charge 60-70 quid to do that and strip back the underseal in the close proximity too check it's not spreading underneath.
Zinc, then seam seal, underseal, stone chip underneath then paint.
Not as long as it seems at all.
-
You have to be careful on one of the sides as there are brake or fuel lines (can't remember which)running close to those areas.
Almost all of the bungs running allong the sill on the nearside had traces of rust on mine, and it does spread under the underseal and you can't tell by looking at it.
To be sure, i removed all bungs and had a look. They weren't bad, but i cut any rot out anyway and welded a plate, to save grief later.
Most people wouldn't bother, but I was underneath in a pit, in a warm(ish) garage, so i carried on with it.
Cavity wax and epoxy resin paint should keep rust at bay.

lucky for some!!
im thinking about moving the living room furniture into the kitchen digging out the living room and park my car in there lol
the brake lines are on the passanger side and the fuel lines are on the drivers side, unless both are on drivers side.
-
fuel lines are deffo on the drivers side, which is where i have the problem, plus fuel tank is close too. this is why i put the topic up, as will the garage have to remove fuel tank, and lines just to weld, incase it blows ...
-
The tank an lines won't need removing.

is it just me or did anyone else see the title and say to them self "Giggidy"?
