First off big thanks to Topher

Ok so I have just bought the car 9th September.
It’s a Mk4 Golf GTi 1.8 20v Turbo
3 Doors, Black, 175k,
A little about the car.
It is standard other than some “Lexus style” clear rear lights : \ the interior was mucky and the roof lining was now a shade of black rather than cream! There are a few scuffs here and there but nothing major other than the boot is rusted to hell. So sourced one on this site only a few miles from home with zero rust and was black which helps although it’s a flat black and mine is metallic but I’m thinking about having it smoothed so no problem. It is in the garage this weekend having a new timing belt kit, water pump and MOT so I’m using my other car until it’s back. There was a blowing noise so I took it to the garage and they said it could either be 1. Cracked manifold 2. Manifold gasket or 3. Flexi pipe had gone? It is on 175k with the last belt done at 112k so better to get it done while the blowing is getting fixed. When I accelerated it was as if the actuator was noisy? Maybe just all down to the blowing? Fingers crossed it’s stopped when I get it back?
Source a new boot
Replace the clear lights to original ones
Wash and polish to get it looking a bit better
Clean the roof lining to the best standard I can (Will be getting a full interior valet)
Coilovers
New exhaust
R32 Front bumper
Front mounted intercooler
New wheels (Calibre Vintage)
Full respray and smooth the rear bumper and do away with the rub strips on the side
New number plates
Forge 007p dump valve
Remap
Better clutch to cope with the remap
Heko wind deflectors
Wrap interior handles and centre console parts in carbon vinyl
Armrest
Repair seats (Drivers right hand seat bolster has worn but there are no rips or burns to any of the seats)
Boost gauge
New engine cover
New gear knob
I think that is all I plan on doing for now but who knows ;)
So this was after her first wash and polish

Here is a photo from the website showing what it would look like, handy that it's a black Mk4 :)

Calibre Vintage indeed  your wheels look sick too mate! I will updated as soon as things progress but funds are low and I'm off work due to a bad back! I could change my side lights to LED's I guess
-
LED sidelights fitted. A major improvement to the standard lights I think?! Worth the hassle of taking the bumper off to remove the lights. Another plus I now know how to whip the bumper off when I get my R32 bumper! Need to get saving! Holidays, girlfriend the pub! Ha ha

Replica or OEM ? looking nice

Replica or OEM ? looking nice
Would like an OEM one for the washer jets in the bumper and all the replica ones don't seem to have them and I would like xenons :D
-
So today while I had a spare hour away from the girlfriend I decided to start rubbing down my manifold
This was just after I had started so I don't have a before photo but you can clearly see how the manifold was on the parts I couldn't reach without stripping everything back (http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx159/marka22/E3B873FF-678D-4FE2-9EA0-5268E77C7DD1-5352-000001854E4F0A0B.jpg)
This was after about 10-15 minutes rubbing down with hemry paper (http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx159/marka22/DAB8900C-53AF-49B8-94A1-28A454790F9F-5352-000001855461C93C.jpg)
After I got bored of rubbing down I thought I would try a sample with p2000 grit wet and dry (the wet being my spit) ha ha (http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx159/marka22/D229D0B8-76BC-40D6-9767-B6E21178FF73-5352-000001855B234574.jpg)
Still a hell of a long way to go but the missus was getting bored ha ha. I also fixed back my inner arch liner as it was rubbing on the o/s front tyre. Left me a nice hole so I don't have to do the TT arch mod now ha ha :)
-
lol take it off, and throw a sanding machine to it, you'll get the top and front done in about 30 mins, then wet n dry it slowly, i still a little to do, nice progress

Ha ha thanks mate I am doing as much as I can for free at the moment as I am broke :( is easy to take off etc? Looks like there's a fair bit of work and I'm no mechanic! I am what is known as "a dope on a rope" ha ha.

im there with u but i see it as trial and error, its hard to take off easy to put back on, well for me anyways, if your not in need of the car give it a go easier that way

Wish I didn't need it. It's going in for the coil pack doing as its a recall and it's just developed a bad misfire

how does this recall work, and what spec
-
I put a thread up about a misfire and someone mentioned a recall on here, so I phoned my local VW dealer and gave them my reg, vin number and they checked on the system and it flagged up a recall for my car. Just give them a bell to be on the safeside matey. Booked in for 8:30am tomorrow so hopefully I can limp it there ha ha.
-
So yesterday I bought new plugs as the misfire is still there but only when cold. Here's a new and old picture comparison. The misfire is still there so I will be getting the knock sensor cleaned up or replaced.

My grab handles we're also a bit tatty so took them off and sanded them down with emery paper and p2000 grit wet and dry. Here's the drivers side.
And here's the passenger side

I don't have any photos of how there looking now but they are nice and smooth. I will be spraying them either gloss or matt black. I will be doing the trim around the gear knob the same when I have time.

Purchased my R32 replica front bumper today from a very sound lad. So here's a quick photo of how it looks at the moment :D

Ok about time I updated this a little. Not had much progress with working away Monday to Friday and only having Sunday afternoons to do anything. Well as for progress nothing other than fitting (watching) GolfySte fit my wheel bearing. So no more squeaky car! On the downside the turbo needs replacing. So when I have the pennies I will be getting that sorted, I currently have a KO3 turbo in the garage and wondered if I could hybrid this? Anyone have any info? That's all for now unfortunately :(
-
Got my Team HEKO wind deflectors today and fitted them. Not the best picture but we all know what they look like ha ha
(http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx159/marka22/96ADC08F-6F16-4841-A2F4-B0B5CE023BC7-4104-0000047779F1E8A0.jpg)
-
R32 bumper finally in the bodyshop! Quoted £60-£70 for it doing :) pictures will be added when fitted :)
-
Fitted my R32 front bumper today. Looks ok for a replica. Looks as if the passenger wing has had I bang and been sent out of place but doesn't bother me really. This is the only picture I have at the moment. New number plate without holes is now fitted. Just needs slamming now ha ha.

Wired in my Bora illuminated vents tonight  Much easier to wire up than I thought it would be. Also got lucky with the wiring so it's on the dim switch too  Here's a picture of how its looking not the greatest picture but still

Looking good, will txt you when I'm in sheffield about the part

So the engine was still struggling on idle so I took the throttle body apart was greeted with this

So I gave it a rub down with brake and clutch cleaner. Still not 100% clean but I don't have the tools to get it free from the pipe. I don't have any after photos but once it's nice and shiny I will. Runs a lot better now though
-
Well my window regulator had snapped so I went to the scrapers this morning to try and find one but no joy as they were all 5 door?! So bought one from the bay £17.00 delivered tomorrow :) while I was there I spotted an armrest. Thought hmm see if its the same material as my seats and boom! Winner so took it off and fitted it
(http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx159/marka22/67FFAA41-96A9-4620-BB97-55786B7DB560-1254-00000179A017C075.jpg) perfect working order. Needs a good clean. £20!
Also found the cover that hides the purple diagnostics plug :) £3 happy with my mornings efforts!

Up nice and early this morning to give the car a nice wash and polish. I can't find my poor boys black hole so had to use poor boys quick detailer. She still looks well I think

I'm buying some on Tuesday(payday) from a guy on here, 2x25mm Will be putting these on the back and maybe some 15mm for the fronts? Or what are the recommended ones to get it looking flush with the arch?
