Hi,
I picked up a list mk3 the other day. However the central locking pump has decided to pack up.
My car is de-locked and am unable to unlock it manually
I don't know what to do. Any advise would be much appreciated

Smash a window.
Can you get in the boot or is that delocked too?
-
Thanks,
I should have said, smashing a window is not an option. Ill try and post a pic of the car and im sure youll agree.

To quote a famous poet:
Its hammer time
If you have no physical locks, doors or boot, theres no way in is there?
Unless you fancy smashing a screwdriver through the door.
Windows are cheap to replace on insurance
-
Have you checked the key fob is working, maybe the battery has died on it. If not smash one of the front windows as they would be easier to replace. Plenty in breakers yards for cheap.

go and find a snap on van in your area, (check online if you dont know of any) they sell a kit to get into cars for when keys have been locked inside ect. iits basically like a flat line rubber bag you push through the gap between the door and b post then pump it up to give you space to slot in specialy designed rods that come with the kit to grab the handle or door lock pin from inside to unlock, brilliant bit of kit

Given the normal price of snap on gear, a new window would be cheaper...
-
naa its only about £50 and would be good to have in the garage incase the problem happens again
-
If your in the AA or similar they will come out with appropriate tools and get you in.
I have seen them use the inflatable bag, I've also seen them simply pull the door frame back. Both would damage the metal shape and possibly the paint on the door. There is no better option than smashing a window. It's easily fixed and will leave no permanent damage
-
The airbags used to pump open the door do not damage the door at all if used correctly. I worked for Green Flag and got into hundreds of cars in seconds with the kit. Some blokes pump the airbag too much which can result in the gap opening up but if you just pump enough to barely get the rod into the car then the door will return to its original position. Defo the cheapest option to get breakdown service out than smash a window for no reason.

Is fo' shiggles not a valid reason
Lets just hope the OP has breakdown cover, as their services are expensive if you aren't a member

Scrap yard... £10 for a a window. No brainer  and get yourself a CL pump whilst your at it
Cant smash a window because you have nice rims?
-
Really simple thing to do is cover the window in duct tape then smash it with hammer and nail. Nail will shatter the glass with little force and the tape will hold all the glass. No mess and your in.
Plenty of people breaking mk3's on here that will sell one cheap enough

exactly if the kit is used correctly it will cause no damage what so ever, i have used the kit hundreds of times and have never maid any damage what so ever, scrap yards might sell the windows cheap but after the hastle of breaking one and then replacing it the with the time spent its no diffrent than buying a kit anyway which makes the kit more logical because if it happens again you still have that kit to hand rather than going through the smash and fit a new window again

Thanks for the ideas guys.
The inflateable bags are an idea but after a bit of searching i saw a couple of clips of them and the use of them is cringe worthy.
smashing a window does seem exteme but i would be the cheapest way. the cleaning... well I think I could manage that would leave the car cleaner than now as id take the seats out to get into all the nooks.
I wouldnt wanna smash the interior becase the full mj trim and carpets.
Thankfully the previos owner called me to let me know that they key is the correct one for the boot.
I didnt wanna force the key into the lock, so thought it was the wrong one
I've freed the lock up abit with some oil but to be fair, WD would probably do abetter job so gonna get a can in the morning and have another go at getting the key into the lock and unlocking the car.
So theres hope of getting into the car without damage.
-
Abit of an update.
I've spent all morning in the rain trying to free up the boot lock but without success. I can get the key in 3/4 of the way but no further.
Think the air bag may be needed. As well as a lock set and new pump.
-
Another update,
I've still not brought myself to smash the glass, partly because the heavy rain.
I should hopefully be able to pick up a pump and a lock today, just Incase the pump breaks again in the future.
My plans are to call Rac, as I have home start cover I thought they are worth a try.
Would it be likely for them to use a tool to get down the side of the window rubber to pull the lock up, not too keen on the air bag wedge method.

Does it not have dead lock so even if they tried to pull the lock up it wouldn't work?
-
Im pretty sure it doesn't. Thank god.
I had issues with one of previous mk3's and a dead locking system.
-
If you call out the RAC the first thing they will do is get you to sign a disclaimer to cover their own backside against damage and obtaining entry to a car they dont own !!!!! Cant see the bloke getting in without the use of airbags as the rods will not get through the door seal without damaging this and would be too hard to get through. Just politely ask the guy to just pump the airbags a couple of times to the bare minimum needed to get the rods through and then when the job is done and the airbags are deflated the door will return to its original position.

Some great tips on how to nick a Mk3!
-
That's a fair point.
Although the immobiliser would still do its job.
Thanks for all the input.
Please delete this thread as I think it may be for the best

Thought I'd let you guys n galls know, I've gained entrance without any damage all it took was......
I better stop there I wouldn't wanna give out the trick, Incase it gets used by the wrong people
Thanks for all the input.
I'm glad I didn't take the risk with the air bag method or smashing a window

This should be deleted
