Post by: Gary022 on 09 September 2012, 15:43
Thanks to alot of help from golfgtiforum members ive managed to succesfully install the cold air induction kit i bought.

The pipework needed to be cut in half , a new end filter had to be bought  and the battery removed but its in looks and sounds great.

Heres some pictures of the install:

Cheap and nasty ebay cold air intake i bought:

Why did you need to cut it in half?

Love it.The filter looks good. It looked small in the last link.  Bet you love the induction roar and the dump valve noise. Top job.  Also iv got a flex cold air feed off the front bumper (where the horns are) i removed the bottom horn so my tube could sit there. It comes up just under the filter.

It work better then having it behind the bumper for some reason. I went on a 98 mile trip, got out and felt the alloy tube and it was cold. But i do have a cold air feed under mine.

The cai kit used to point to the floor. It had air flowing past it from the front lower bumper vent. Have you ever turned your head side ways on from a 100mph wind ,you cant breath (takes your breath away).

Cut in half cause judging the size of it I wouldnt trust it with the Scottish weather , plus am wanting to drive a golf not a road sweeper haha

Looks good, but when it rains, the water will drop straight onto the filter, I only noticed because I was going to place mine there and then noticed when I opened the bonnet how much water fell exactly where the filter would be same as yours (now, I dont know if it was just because I lifted the bonnet or not but I thought sod that)

surely it would just be because you opened the bonet , cant see water getting in there as the electrics for the headlights have been sound

I dont know, nothing seals the edge of the bonnet to the wing, so would presume it would happen anyway, and the headlights and associated wiring are surrounded in plastic

had mine on in aberdeen for a week which basically means its seen the equivalent to 6 months rain in england and its coping fine , not found any water under the bonet and the pipe is dead cold after a reasonable run so dont think its suffering from heat soak either.

So begs the question does all this cost actually do much for performance over a standard box and decent panel filter

Yeah it kick the airboxes arse.  I put my smooth airbox in a skip and the k&n panel filter.  Well my dad did .  I dont mind as i would of never gone back.  It does make a world of a difference in sound ,good dump valve noise and better performance .I can fell its better. I have to try every kind of mod tell i find one thats better. Like spark plugs ,you cant beat ngk platinum PFR6Q .I tryed nology ,denso and the £100 pluse plugs ,they where a fail big time.
