will the agu head bolt straight onto the bam bottom end? Will the oil & water wells line up?
Also what power would you expect with the k04 turbs with front intercooler 007 tip and other normal mods that most do on the 1.8t engine?
Thanks
-
Yes, it should bolt straight up. Check with the headgasket for any that dont first.
k04 mapped is about 260-270bhp.
-
is it worth doing that or not?
-
Your gonna need fuel rail etc too.
Might be easier to change your rods and just fit a k04 turbo?
-
fuel rail from the bam? with green bosch injectors or is it the red saab injectors?
well the agu has bigger bore intake and bam has the forged bottom end.
was talking with my mate bizzle yesterday and he said most people do that.
-
Only difference between bottom ends is the slightly lower compression ration on a BAM.
-
I can't see any point if your only going to run 260bhp with a k04.
I also remember F17 bad forging his BAM bottom end because he's running big turbo kit.
Don't listen to your mate

Why mess about changing injectors?
BAM or AMK injectors are good for 280 BHP...so if you are keeping the K04, you won't need more than standard BAM/AMK injectors.
You will be lucky to see much more than 250 on a basic St1 map on a K04 engine...260+ with more mods...and 270+ if you are really pushing it.
280 is possible, just. But you are running stupidly high EGTs and the injector 'on' times are getting marginal.
250 BHP in a Mk3 makes for a fast car...
The trouble with turning the boost up on a K04 engine is that the torque spikes early, unless you mape carefully to stop it...and it'll overwhelm the grip a Mk3 chassis can provide...so you end up with a wheelspin monster...or you gear it so high that the extra power is pointless.
well the agu has bigger bore intake and bam has the forged bottom end.
BAM or AMK have the stronger bottom end.
was talking with my mate bizzle yesterday and he said most people do that.
I've never heard of it. Unless running a bigger turbo than a K04, and on a better turbo manifold, the bigger port head won't give you much. The cams and K04 hold back the flow...not the size of the ports.
If you want a K04 engine...just go buy a AMK/BAM.
If you want to run a bigger turbo, then you will be moving more air with the turbo, so high boost won't always be required...so maybe you don't need the stronger bottom end.

thanks for that peeps. Just needed to see what you guys had to say about that. Il stick with agu as i dont think il need more that 250 horses.
So with a mapped agu running a k04 with front intercooler and 007 tip il be running at how much power?
-
Should be looking for 260hp

Should be looking for 260hp
Sounds about right for a good map with a very efficient FMIC.

that pretty good.

which fmic should i go for mate?

I can't advise...sorry.
I've never fitted one to a Mk3
I bet Brad could point you in the right direction though.
Personally, I'd avoid the cheapo imported eBay jobbies...i'm never sure how efficient or well pickled they are.
-
ok cheers buddy. Il pm kells unless he gets here before me lol
-
You'll need to be over 2.5"
My mate works at pro alloy and I would only use them.
Check out pro alloy on fb
If not google search them. And YouTube them.
They got a 1.8 20v running 500bhp, engine is in a lotus but still got the numbers.
-
im sure they have advertised in the classifields on here

Maybe.
I've seen their work and rate them highly

A couple of mates run their ICs/radiators on their race cars - top kit.
Not cheap...but stunning quality fabrications.
-
defo not cheap. Seen 1 for a mk4 1.8t and it was £700
will just get a universal 1
-
keep bam head
smaler port aids better torque
AMK / BAM are by far best lump
270 bhp on stage 1 map is been a bit generous/or just hear say.. will be more like 250 (which is awesome in a mk3..
Ess Three is bang on with what he says so ill echo that, really need gearbox mods like iv done for big power in MK3

PM me after weekend we will talk mate
-
will do mate. thanks
