Not going to be easy, they all seem to have died from body rust or been broken for spares  :undecided:

Get rid of the green one first, add some more to the funds

Post by: stainesy on 16 August 2012, 13:45
yes that is a good idea. will be keeping the coilys and rear lights tho.
actually thinking about it dont really have to be an anni as long as its very clean and in great condition. i can afford to be picky now

Obviously you will try to haggle and get it as cheap as possible as its been on for over a month,

Who knows you may get it for £1900, Hmm and it looks the part.

Good Luck. :)

Well if your not sure then you really need to ask them, it might come back and bite you! Believe me I know, my poor old lady was claiming the incorrect benefit when my Father died and well yh, it doesn't look too good :( So please check that this rebate or whatever is correct!

Mileage and condition dictate price in my eyes, I reckon a sub 50k miler with NO rust is well worth £1500 upwards, but like anything it depends on what you're prepared to pay. You would pay that for a Kia Pecanto!

Buy my cousins 3dr vr6 high line. It's a grand, full service history, 80k miles. Just had around £800 in mods spent on it. It's on eBay. A classified advert. I helped home with the suspension and poly bush kit. It's quick

Vr6's are not that quick as everyone makes out.  Only come into their own on the motorway but in straightline or around town if u have a good 16v there is no difference apart from the sound.   I have diven many and there is no sig difference between the two.

Proper made up for you bud, that is a result!! , i'd aim for a nice clean 3 door 16v and if you come across an anni then bonus points.
I'd sell the green one as it seems to be a bit of a problem child and you could end up sinking a fair chunk of that cash just getting it to the point where you can enjoy it.

yeah i have already found a very nice burgandy 3 door 8v. looks very nice for a grand but its from a dealer and i have to wait 5 days for the money to clear so hoping he still has it. then if i do get it i will be swapping my coilys lights and stuff over to it and selling my green one and them SEAT wheels i got to have enough cash for some sweet rims

Sorry to hijack my own thread
Opinions people what would you do?

Ok I have 2 cars I can't decide between
8v burgandy 3 door with full service history
Full years MOT very clean totaly standered. But I have coilys ready for it.

Or a very clean red 8v colour concept with the red and black leather interior
On Jom coilys but only has MOT till nov.

both £1000

Not too keen on the red/black interior so it would have to be the burgundy one for me, no decent 16v's for sale?

i would like a 16v but i no 8v,s like th back of my hand now. and like the simplicity of it and how easy it is to work on. plus how much more fuel do 16v.s use compared to the 8v?
Title: Re: its new car time baby
Post by: 67buggers on 17 August 2012, 19:56
I'd go for the colour concept, if your confident it's a good motor. I took a gamble on my anni with it only having 8 days mot but well worth it........if you don't like the interior you could dye it or swap it, it should ave heated seats and black abc trims I think? Red golfs are best

I can guarantee you, almost every one of them will, (provided its not been pampered & dry stored) take the fuel tank off & the filler neck bolt hoes in the inner arch WILL have rotted throu or at least be manky!!

plus i really am looking forward to going to see the colour concept now. actually on ebay as we speak looking at rims to by. keeping my eye on a set of modern lines. and a few sets of banded steels i like the look of. but mainly i recon i will end up getting a set of DARE RS front 16" 8j ET20 and rear 16" 9j ET15 with cold centres.
really liking the look of gold wheels with polished lip on a red car at the moment

and for the money i really like that colour concept.

Post by: stainesy on 18 August 2012, 16:44
NA my wife is called Emma not jealousy

Tbh I'm not really that bothered about the whole anni thing. It's the car I like most and to me its just an interior and a bit of red tape round the bumpers and being able to say I drive an anni.
I'd rather have leather tbh.
Yes the Anni's do look nice as yours is a lovely looking motor but the whole anni thing isn't top of my list.
To me it's just an interior and pinstripe and a set of rims. Under that it's a mk3 golf gti like any other.
I do get the whole anni thing but just pointing out that that's not important to me as I like to make my own thing out of a mk3.

Yeah I no the 16v is rare but I'm on about the 8v.
Same could be said about colour concepts tho. Don't see many of them about ither.
Yeah I get the fuss over the 16v anni that's fair enough but they are out of my price rang but if I had the money for one I'd probly still buy a normal gti and use the rest of the cash to buy some sick rims. And other mods.
That's just me tho I Spose.
Title: Re: its new car time baby
Post by: dubstar9 on 18 August 2012, 17:52
Same for me too, would have loved to of found a Colour Concept Cabrio but they saved most of them for the Mk3.5's and I love the Mk3 look more than the 3.5's.

So I decided to go down the DIY route instead  :smug:

Stick with it mate, you know where your heading man

And perfect timing aswell.

Tbh mate I ain't really that bothered about having a quicker car. Iv done fast cars most of my life. I used to obsessed with very fast cars. Had a cozzy. Had rs turbo. Done the R5 ggt thing had an Evo and a monster
T-5R i used to race at samta pod so bit bord of all that now. I really like the 8v's and drive them just for te looks of them now. So very happy with an 8v.
Really got my heart set on that colour concept as never had one of them yet. Really hope it's as good as he says it is. I no what to look for now and the sill covers will be coming off in the inspection.

Mmmmm....Volvo!

If you do decide to get back in a Volvo don't buy an auto! Was your Gul an auto? It was if I remember right? My V70 is an auto and I think I'd love it even more if it was a manual!

Flooring it is so fun, you can keep you VR6, a Volvo 5-pot is such a fab noise maker

If you do get another please don't stick them badge stickers and rear lights on it

A cc is a good choice in my opinion too, yes some people hate the colour coded interior but for me it was part of the appeal but on that one at £1095 I think there's a bit of negotiation to be done, what ever you choose I hope it's good to ya pal

Just wanted to have my say as I had this discussion at work the other day :P

Quote from: wikipedia
Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light. Although black is sometimes described as an "achromatic", or hueless, color, in practice it can be considered a color, as in expressions like "black cat" or "black paint".

im actually thinking the 16v aswell. mainly due the it having a full MOT and tax.
also would be good to try out the 16v i spose.
is there a big diferance in insurance between the 8v and the 16v? also is there a noticable diferance in fuel?

16v does look the better car IMO. Sounds crazy but just like its had more time and effort than the Colour Concept. 16v looms like its had a proud owner if you know what I mean but also needs to keep the Audi rims to keep it looking that good  But cash in the hand is a very persuasive tool

this is what he emailed.

thoughts on this please.
have a feeling it may be worse under the trim and dont really want to wast my time driving all the way down there is it is.  :undecided:
also them plastics dont look all that well looked after

I think it's a bit suspect, if it's started rusting that close to the trim you just dont know if the trim is hiding more. And with the track record mk3 golfs have you can bet there's going to be more.
Title: Re: its new car time baby
Post by: stainesy on 20 August 2012, 20:10
yeah iv had them that look the same as this before and you no that under that trim its worse and tbh dont look like he has taken much care of his plastics ither so im now thinking the red colour concept again. i can afford to be picky at the moment and aparently the red one is mint.

If was worried about cars being comfy I wouldnt have my cars slammed on cheap coilys all the time.
I love the old school looking stuff and love the look of it.
I like mk2 golfs but they are still common ish. But this jetta looks so clean. Plus with my money situation at the mo a 1.6 8v jetta is gona be good on fuel and it being a 1985 car insurance will be alot cheaper aswell.
Everything about it is good.

I really like that Jetta, the wheels really suit it as well. Although I'm not really a fan of red cars that does look like a goodun. Get it, run it and maybe eventually stick another lump in it when funds permit.
In regards of comfort and mod cons, most of the later refinements are available anyway plus I'd load it up with sound deadening to, Ive always done my mk2's and its made a massive difference.

funny thing is he lives in my home town and area in bletchley
i said to him is the car as mint as it look in the pics. he said yes the only bit of rust on the hole car is a tiny bubble on the inside lip of one of the arches and thats it. i also said is it reliable and in good working order he said yes as its his daily driver and has never let him down.
i cant belive the insurance diferance. thats nuts. im just gona buy a years insurance outright and that one less bill of £55 per month i have to worry about now.

Hassle though as the mk3 has a 5 stub hub. Better off pillaging a mk2 GTI or G60.

well here she is. picked up the car that has taken me away from mk3,s today. and she really is as clean as the pics show. very good runner and actually really nice to drive. although she does use about the same if not a tad bit more petrol thatn my mk3 gti  :undecided:
think she may be running abit rich so going to take her for a tune up and probly needs the carb fuel mixture tweaking. i have had more vw and even non vw drivers flash and stare at me today than i normaly get in a month in any of the other cars iv had its nuts.

im going going to have to keep finding reasons to come chat over here though as the mk2 section is like a ghost town compared to here

Have you thought of getting the G60 Steelies banded, coz they look good as they are, but if you have them banded they'll look alot better than the banded steelies you prob thinking of getting.

Keep the retro look and have a nice proportion of stance :).

P.S, There's someone on ebay, selling some  :smug:

just found out that a bloke i have known for ages is really good mates with the bloke that invented cade wheels. he rang him up wile i was there and he said to come down to his unit in luton wich just down the road from me and i can go though loads of diferant wheels for a good price to see what i want. he said he even has some other cool retro stuff he has just imported. i didnt no cades were named after his son.
cool. got a bloke about to turn up to buy my teledials then im driving down to cades to have a look around sweet

ok just got back from cades. the owner is a really cool bloke and went out of his way to help me and he loved my car. infact all of his staff came out to see it. tried loads of wheels to see what looked good. really wanted the deep dish blue ones but would take more arch work than i willing to do to fit them so we all agreed the ones i bought will look good and a change from having a dish.
he done me an amazing deal on them and said he will dothem that cheap for me as long as i come back with the car for a photo shoot once they are fitted.

these are the ones we all agreed looked the best (eccept i really liked the blue one) as the gold works with the oldschool retroy look.
altho i cant stop thinking about the blue ones and think i may take mine back tomorrow and swap them over.  :undecided:

If you want my honest opinion mate I think your car looks good as it is on the G60 steels or have them banded but its to cool a car for those wheels just my view.Out the 2 wheels youve selected I think the Blue ones would suit your car better than the Gold ones

Yh that's why I. Ditching the arches and colour coding, think Itl look super clean then. Are you running and spacers on yours? Looks like you got a nice stance with the standard alloys
Title: Re: its new car time baby
Post by: Gavv8 on 24 August 2012, 23:42
No spacers, i think its the way its parked that makes it look like that, it looks even lower in the flesh and i've had to put the standard splitter back on as i smashed the vr one...

The style of the car does lend itself best to steel wheels i think, its so clean and original that alloys make it look fussy.

they didnt have the white ones in stock and wont for a long time till they get a big enough order to make them so i made do with them in blue. they are flat faced so i can just paint or even vinyl wrap the centres.
