hi folks, since my golf isnt on the road yet id thought i have a play with the coilovers so today i wound it down to the lowest it could go, as i was getting close to the lowest setting i noticed that the spring in the coilover had become loose, is this normal? i would think when the car was off the jacks the weight of the vehicle would compress the spring so the spring wouldnt be loose anymore
cheers and heres a quick pic

As long as you don't come across any tall ants or fag papers you should be fine..
-
I still see some arch gap :lipsrsealed:
Cars looking good though i do like the purples

You usually have thinner helper springs to take up the slack but if its right low it can still move about. The main concern with having it really low is the drivesafts hitting the chassis legs when you go over bumps. I can't put my AP's right down because of this issue and don't want to notch the chassis. Brought them down another 1cm today lol, thats as far as I can go but can only just get my finger between the arch and the wheel, and I have wee fingers

Nice!!! My front coilovers are all the way down, it'll be fine, gonna remove the helper springs next time i'm fiddling with it...my engine is on hockey pucks, that helps (alot), used to smash of everything!!!

I give you a month before you ruin your wheels
It wouldn't take much of a pothole to buckle one of those lips :undecided:

Looks as low as mine.
I have just put 195/40/16 Tyres on my 8" wide front rims that has lowered the front an extra 10mm and I now hit my subframe on the road all the time  had to drive to wells at 40/50. Did get 40mpg with a high lift cam though

my black mk2 was that low at the front my subframe was always hitting something even on a slitely wobly road you would hear scrap then a bang that scares the fcuk out of you specialy if you doing 80
i had to take the vr front splitter off and put gti one on as the vr one would be scraping the road
bottom of my subframe was bar metal if you looked under the car.

If the springs are loose you can now fail the mot.
