I'm booked in for my MOT tomorrow, I'm scared, I think it's going to cost me a fortune get back on the road,
I think it needs hand brake done, it'll probably need the exhaust changed as I don't think the big Scorpion one will pass the emissions etc argh!!! :(

have you done the basics ?
lights checked
tyres ?
cleaned it, inside and out ?

Took mine in for a pre-MOT check up on Saturday, at McGregeor's in Leith Walk, seemed a fair list since I knew all of these problems were there and was worried in case there was anything I'd missed- not going to be cheap but could have been worse.
Small hole in OS sill
Centre exhaust insecure
Centre exhaust leaking
N/S handbrake not working
were the fails and observations on:
Slight play in OS/R wheel bearing
Front coil springs corroded
Both front tyres close to limit
Got until 4th August to get it fixed.

It's not all bad news. Mine was in today for its MOT and, other than an off side corroded brake pipe which we knew about from its last service in February, it flew through. Job's a good 'un.
Maybe yours will fly through too?

One good thing about owning my Mk2 on the far side of the world, no MOTs to deal with, ever. I do have to register it every year and there is a checklist the officials are supposed to go through similar to a very basic MOT. However, I've never seen one even bother to glance in the direction of the car, let alone try and go through the list. The only thing it does have to pass is an emissions test, because that is linked by computer to the registration. But the standards are set so low its very hard to fail.
Only thing this means is there are some very frightening vehicles on the road, combine this with some truly terrifying drivers and some crazy road designs (22 lane wide highways anyone?) and driving here can make me miss Britain and all its rules, even the MOT!

I feel for you Jamtarts, we've all been there.
What car is it? And be sure to let us know what the problems were...

Assume the position..

When I had standard rear calipers I would stamp on the foot brake and lift the handbrake up when the tester shouted ''handbrake on''.
Passed every year

Hehe yes they are indeed. And a little white .
Great signature though, I lolled. Also while I'm on it - it also says "clincally" instead of "clinically". Warning...I am the Grammar Police.

after about two months and about £1000 worth of work and parts, wee Golfie passed his MOT yesterday, I should get him back tonight, gutted about the price but glad to be getting him back. Hoping to notice a huge difference after all the work on it, hopefully a much better drive now.
I can't remember everything that was done as I was told on phone,
Not handy telling my wife how much it cost for the MOT of a car she thinks is an old banger and that we don't need 2 cars :D
But I'm looking forward to getting him back :D
