Very nice! I saw an R on the road yesterday for the first time and it looked very nice indeed. I wonder if those small spray guard will fit the 35? Wonder if they'll do much too. Hope you enjoy the R as much as I love the 35.

Thanks Ginge, I loved the GTI so I'm sure the R will be at least that good - I've a feeling it'll be superb. Don't know if the little spray guards will do much, but they add a certain something to the appearance

That is very very nice, with the best colour and wheel combination, you must be delighted   when you talk about the spray guards do you mean the little black plastic wheel arch extensions? If so my wife had these on her Eos and I asked the dealer what they were there for and I was told as it had 235 tyres (same width as the R) these are a legal requirement as the tyres stick out of the arches a little. Hence why you don't get them in a GTI. Also they did nothing for spray as this is not what they are for.

Good luck with the new motor

Very nice  you win in the pictures race!

Edi35's right about the small deflector type things. 235's stick out from the arch slightly, which legally isn't allowed...this is how they get around it

Tbh I did read about those arch extentions being for legal reasons because of the tyre width; I was just going along with Ginge's remark in my previous reply

Enjoy the Dunlops

:grin:It's not quite as tight as it looks in the pics Steve, but I do need to be a bit careful. Also with it being 3 door it's more difficult for me to get in and out in the garage.

What are your initial thoughts then RickS?

Awesome springs to mind immediately; not done many miles yet but I'm also loving the DSG so far. I think it could turn out to be the best car I've ever owned.
Only slight annoyance is that the RNS510 doesn't display CD text from the remote changer [I went for the CD changer instead of MDI, possibly a mistake, but it's too late now to worry about that]
This has not even slightly diminished my enthusiasm and excitement about the car as a package though - so to sum up;  :  :drool:stunning looks,  :cool:high quality finish/feel,  :laugh:drives superbly.

What are your thoughts so far then Sunday?

Can't wait to open it up TBH, i've been taking it easy until i reach around 1000miles and then i'll give it a little blast.

MPG is creeping up, i'm getting over 30MPG now instead of mid 20's. Love the colour MFD (well worth the extra £160), still undecided on the Dynaudio.

Like you said it's a great looking car, handles superb BUT i've got a niggle at the back of my mind i should have gone for DSG. The clutch seem's different on the R, not as quiet and smooth as the GTI.

Yeah, I'm taking it easy too until I've got some miles on. Colour MFD is great, so is the Dynaudio [had it in GTI] Why are you undecided about it?

unless they have changed the rules in the past couple years the real answer is he could not be arsed to ask vwuk.
As putting in a special request build is too much hassle for him.
Do a search on here. A few of us in 2010 asked this question to vwuk the reply letter is posted on here somewere.

I'm going to be controversial and go for 36 - always liked that yellow on the Mk3 Colour Concept.

As for the R, it really is a beautiful car, especially in Rising Blue. Every time I go to a show I start hankering for the Mk4 or Mk5 R32s in that colour as there's always loads of them. I even said to our lass I fancied selling my Mk6 so I could get an R but she was having none of it. So I'm just going to have to mod it. The barstewards at Admiral told me the other day they wouldn't insure a modified GTi so I either don't tell them or wait til after 30th September when the insurance runs out and change my insurer to someone who will cover the mods.

The Mk6 R is out of my price range unfortunately, and, as discussed on here before, at £30k plus I think I'd be in the BMW dealer at that price.

I really like the look of the Rising Blue / Silver wheel combo - but I stayed clear of it knowing that the majority of Golf R's would be made in that colour (cause it's unique to the R) and another high percentage would be Candy White (cause it's been the colour of the moment for the last few years).
Silver is boring I know... but the black wheels make it stand out a bit more - and it's sooooo easy to keep clean

There's loads of R models round here but all are black rising blue or white also seen a single graphite blue.
Not seen a silver, red or shadow one.

I would go for 12 or 18.

My candy white looks very plain compared to some of those colours!
