Title: Double chamber to single chamber the results (pics)
Post by: stainesy on 01 July 2012, 20:14: What would I need to change my gti headlights for the single chamber ones?
Is it that plug thing you can buy to fit vento lights or would I need to do some wiring?

They are plug & play but some plugs are square & some are oval :wink:

Ah right so you just got some single chambers ones and they plugged strait into your gti?

Post by: leigh_harty on 01 July 2012, 23:41: If the plugs are different just pop out the plug (on the light) and swap your origionals over. Then cut and connect, all wires are colour coded between the plugs

Go halfords and get a box of connectors (£9 for a huge selection) rather than a fiver for about 5??!! Madness

Emonnism was at my garage yesterday as I changed his rear wheel bearings for him and I noticed he had fly eyed his headlights wich on his 1.4 are single chamber. I have always liked the look of the single chamber headlights anyway more than the gti ones. But with the fly eye on aswell they looked really cool.
As he is joeying a set of gti lights at the moment I will be buying his fly eyed single chamber headlights off him.

yeah i thought the wiring was diferant. i aint bothered about light output as i will just stick in better bulbs.
so what type of wiring problems could i have?

I am not 100% sure but the circuit will be different, you may even need to switch back to a base spec lighting loom.

so how come vento lights can just plug and play then? ain they the same as single chamber lights just a slitely differant shape?

BUT you will need to remove a wiring bridge from you electric box, otherwise you dipped beam won't go off when you go to full beam - i.e. bulbs will burn out very often.

The bridge you'll need to remove is the one next to relais 53 - the reverse C shaped one....

Ah right o I just remove that and the headlights will work fine as normal? Will I still have full beam aswell?

That is no problem, nor illegal with dual ones, but with single ones it was never fitted because they would be too bright (illegal) and more importantly your bulbs would keep burning out when using full beam.

You'd be going into Halfords every other week for a new set of bulbs. :D

and wherry i prefer the look of the single chamber headlight. i have already joeyed my gti lights but i think fly eye aswell will be to dark.
i did some work on emonnisms car a few days ago and he had single chamber with fly eye on but not joeyed and i really liked the look of it as the tint maches the tint on my indicators and rear lights perfectly. and tbh i just think they look better single chamber.

emonnism is joeying some gti lights for his car now and once fitted he is selling me his single chamber fly eyed lights so i dont need to do it as its already done. just need to wait till he has fitted his gti ones.

i will post up pics once done. trust me. my scemes always turn out good in the end. (well apart from the orange lights thing :grin:)

Fly eyes are 100% legal.... The law in relation to lights only talks about light colour and being even which the fly eyes have no effect on.

I saw the lights your on about on eamonnism's car they looked mint......I was well jealous of how low his car sits!
