Just as I was leaving air ambulance arrived and several paramedics. Hope all involved ok.
-
yes i had just left when this happened apparently the snap off steering wheel came off and the car went into the crowd from what the lads say on the phone  just hope everyone involved are ok
-
lots of rumours on many forums
bit of an eye witness statement from one post on
https://www.facebook.com/groups/128773150473055/
bloke just took a piccy of his missus, with the 2 blokes that got hit in the background.
white SEAT of some kind turned left, thru barrier and into the very last trade stand at the top end
Thoughts to all involved.
-
not a good way to end the show
-
That's awful, could have been anyone of us. I thought it was a 2 car collission.

yep. makes you stop and think how safety orientated Santa Pod is,
and how exposed the strip at inters really is
-
damn! Hope all will be OK
-
I believe that that accident happened roughly between the mobile seating area, and the end of the spectator area, the car travelled across from the far lane after the steering wheel had become detached!
Myself and Satty "Mr Blue" had been spectating in that immediate area, only moments earlier, and had already questioned the safety after that mega quick white Mk1 went past us and blew up...
Water barriers, then concrete barriers are needed for that first 200 yards of spectator area, and "on the line" Scrutineer's needs to be a lot sharper!
I wish a speedy recovery to all involved

Jesus Thom, get a lottery ticket bought
didnt know about the Mk1 blowing up, if that had speared off into the crowd it would be a lot worse :lipsrsealed:

 buy a Euro Millions ticket too then

That is awful i actually did the strip so can only imagine what the driver is going through now, i know if it was me i would be devastated
-
hope everyone is ok, those barriers don't look anywhere near up to the task!

There not mate, flimsy metal.
-
This is so bad,i think most of us that went stood around there at some point, next years will be alot different, hope they all make speedy recovery.
-
If the steering wheel had come lose I think he may have panicked, because I'm sure there wasn't a flicker of a brake light... I was on the other side and had a clear image of a car plowing into the audience.
I had been nagging to go over that bit aswell because I hadn't been to the auto jumble... Could have been anyone. Bad day
-
me and sharki and 2 mate were standing in that area earlier that afternoon ,and then i was near that jumble section looking for a bargain when i heard the crash was about 100-200 yards so anybody could have been injured ....
-
I am amazed he didn't hit the brakes. Years ago my steering column hadn't been fitted properly on my Classic Mini and it actually detatched as I was driving at about 40mph going round a bend. I have never been quicker on the brakes. It is a VERY scary thing to happen though.
I wish everyone involved a full recovery - my thoughts are with everyone involved.
-
Sad hope people were okay, glad I kinda missed this my kids enters my mind.
-
Was such a bad way to end such a brilliant show, hope everyone has a speedy recovery!
My 2pence on the accident is that his steering wheel came off as people have been saying, but he was concentrating on trying to get it back on and didn't realise where he was going or what was happening, then realised too late. Just what i think happened?
The car disapeared pretty sharpish though??

Doubt it.

I know it wasn't a dragster, but the guy in the video is a professional and he faffed about when it came off. I would have thought the guy at inters would have done the same, in a moment of panic as big as this the body just enters a survival mode.
-
Where do the injured people stand with this insurance wise?
If this was on the road the car insurance would cover any issues around lasting injuries, compensation etc.
Obviously normal car insurance doesn't cover drag racing on a private strip. Do you have to have track insurance to race at Inters? Do the organisers have insurance to cover this?
I have never been to inters, only Santa Pod but personally looking at those pictures i think its crazy that the only protection is a metal fence and then you allow joe bloggs to drive his car as hard as he can past the public. Mad!
That fence woudnt stop a car at 10mpg, let alone 100mph!
-
is there any updates on the injured people guys
the show itself was great and its unfortunate that summat like this had to happen before people question how safe the whole area was.... not just at the strip but from the entrance and through out ppl driving like idiots at the car park area with pedestrians around really lucky there were not more accidents there should have been a pedestrian walkway barrier atleast especially when ppl are taking their children the thought of a child steeping out in front of a car doesnt bare thinking of and that was just on the way in.

Just read on another forum all involved ok, just bruised and sore so thats good news. Hopefully measures will be put in place to prevent this happening. BUT motorsport can be dangerous as it says in all motor events on the small print.
-
They're ok, apparently.

There was one idiot in a seat support car bombing it into big crowds of people at the side of the drag waiting line, that was another accident waiting to happen.
But other than that it was handled great, albeit prevention is better than the cure as they say
Glad they are ok though
-
I think it is kind of dangerous all the 1/4 miles cars bombing through the camping area on their way back !
-
Madmanmart is a member on this forum as well, he was very luck by the sounds of it!
-

Not sure we need pics?
Why? If you read about this in the newspaper or saw it on a news report on the tv you would want to look at a pic so you knew what the frig everyone was on about.
