Nice tidy looking car.
Take the RAC or AA with ya and you cant go wrong. Still some warranty left so if it goes wrong it will be fixed for free.
*Although interestingly the phone number quoted on the ad does not match the location, not that it should worry you but I'd ask why that's the case he might be working away from home.

bloody hell i hope mine is worth 18k when its 2 years old
looks a good spec, pretty much same as mine. remap is a good feature and shouldn't put you off.
-
looks tidy and like it's been well looked after! some good shots of it!
-
Bloody lying Git never been thrashed my ar*e  I don't think I would buy a car thats been mapped ?? I'm very fussy maybe but I just wouldn't
-
my dad mapped his diesel family car and he's never thrashed a car in his life. just makes it nicer to drive

How old is your dad ? Mapped cars to me equals thrashed  and you won't be thrashing your's will you

I am aiming to get the car for a reduced price
Says it has about 4months tax, good tyres, spare key, No faults, no major scratches. Couple of small stone chips. No kerbing or other issues. But from the sounds of things 1 service which is Maintanence and air con service carried out by VW ridgeway Newbury.
I guess at 18,000 miles 1 service is correct ?

Its probelry on long life service , so 1 service is correct  The best way to tell if its any good test drive for a good 20mins at least.

Well if I was buying that car I would tell him that I have some concerns about being mapped and I need to test drive the car out properly. It just might be a an excellent example of how a GTI should be, but having read a few threads on here about some of the R's and the state there in??? Check out its warranty and the service book too!

Oh really, I would not pay for thrashed motor and i'm pretty sure wouldn't ether
-
just cos its been mapped doesn't mean its thrashed. if it drives good on the test drive, has no daft noises/smoke etc etc I'm sure it will be fine

I defiantly wouldn't buy yours ether

never seen rain, never seen road salt, 6 coats of wax on it, chassis cleaned every couple of weeks, never left in car parks, never left outside over night or through the day for that matter, engine always warmed up and warmed down properly but cos its been mapped it means its had a hooligan owner?....

Would you buy off ebay ? Or maybe its because I only do brand new cars, I haven't bought a second hand car for over 10yrs now, I certainly wouldn't throw my hard earned cash at a mapped car IMHO just stay clear of mapped cars. Just maybe you need to get out a bit in your GTI if your carrying out the above

Thrashing and driving fast aren't the same you know. My ED35 that's on order will never be thrashed whilst I own it, but that's not to say I'm going to drive it like a gran everyday, not take it up to the redline and use the performance on offer. Thrashed is treating something without care or respect, using in a damaging way.
Back to the topic, if you want to see if it's been 'thrashed', check the discs and tyres. It should be part way through its second set of tyres at 18k miles, and the discs shouldn't be burnt blue. If they are, or it's had more tyres, it's had a hard life, if not, it's been looked after by someone who knows how to drive properly

It looks tidy and judging by the effort he's gone with the photos probably means he/she cares about their cars.
I would definitely take the AA or similar with me, for the sake of £50. Stone chips for me are give away too, if it's peppered with them then my guess would be that it's been driven up the arse of everything.
If you do get it check out the detailing section for some handy tips on those little detailing jobs including taking any swirls out of the paint etc.
-
Looks like a good buy to me. As others have suggested get an AA check and finance to be on the safe side. Good luck with it.

Not entirely true, I drive a country mile behind folk on the motorway and my front end is covered with them. You have no say in folk cutting in in front of you which is probably when it happens!
My Mrs, who I don't think ever goes above 60 has also got the same on the front of her car.
Just poor paint I reckon.

My front end has a few stone chips the same. The worst one is when you can see the stone arching towards you and you know it's going to hurt. Last one was on a motorway and I was around 2/3 car lengths back from a Micra in front of me when I saw it coming towards me - hit the top of the windscreen and luckily only a slight chip - no major damage but I did miss a heartbeat when I was driving.
I am going to be filling / sanding / polishing my chips in soon - I have a couple of white spots where the undercoat is showing that are annoying me!
