I was lucky enough to buy sundaydriver's old Milltek when he returned his GTI to standard.
It was immaculate, well packaged and bought at a superb price - so thanks for that Steve.
After a quick buff up and sorting out some of the black ceramic coated VW Racing tips, I got round to fitting it today.
It fitted a treat...and I'm pleased with it.
More de-blinging completed.
Job done:

 I have got the black ceramic tips on mine, IMO they look miles better than the Chrome bling bling,
Well done
-
Very nice, how did you get the VWR tips?
I thought they only did cat back and turbo back kits.

Got to agree.
And it saves having to clean them!

I thought they only did cat back and turbo back kits.
I pestered and pestered Sam @ VWR until he agreed to sell me a pair of black tips.
They were the 70mm tips though, for the full turbo back exhaust, so I had to get creative with the hacksaw and break out the TIG welder and stainless rods to make the black tops fit my road biased system.
The black tips are 60mm, with 70mm 'increasers' welded on to suit the turbo back 'race' system.
I cut the '60-70mm increasers off, cut the 60mm to 50mm 'reducers' off the standard chrome tips, and welded the 50-60mm reducers onto the black tips.
Half a days work later...job done!

Bloody good effort!!!
They look cool
-
Very nice, and a lot better than the std tips...

Glen it was my pleasure, your a true gent. Those black tips look great!
How did you get on with the Carbonspeed intake?, did you manage to source the missing bits?

Cheers Steve.
Likewise!

I ordered some black Silicone 'bump' joining hoses to suit and made a bracket by TIGing a stainless Jubilee Clip to a stainless L shaped bracket.
Works a treat.
The carbon polished up well too...I'll be fitting that bad boy very soon...
-
They look cool....
-
Got to be honest, I'm a bigger fan of shiny poo pipies, ha ha!
-
Didn't realise they would sell the tips seperate interesting.

I'm not sure if they do oficially...I asked a big favour, and it took a few months of pestering
A big thanks to Sam @ VWR for sorting it out.
It's not like I haven't bought a few bits from them...a set of wheels, or 6 etc

+1

Any news on the carbonspeed intake Glen, have you fitted it yet?
Just want to know your views on it as i never got round to fitting it due to the missing bits.

Err...no. Not yet.
I got carried away doing some jobs round the house whilst the weather was reasonable and I had access to my joiner mate.
Maybe next time home as I'm back offshore now.
The exhaust still looks good...not that I've started the car since I fitted it!
-
Looks immense, black tips look much better and the bigger size suits the back end so much better.
-
very very nice
they really do look much better than the chrome ones. Took me ages to get mine dirty enough so you couldnt see the chrome
-
Finally...I got round to fitting the Carbonspeed Inlet I was kindly given by sundaydriver when I bought his Milltek.

It might give a bit of note!
-
Well thats just lovely..
-
Very nice!
-
That intake looks the same as the Carbonio one
-
I believe it probably is...and the Pipercross one sold by Awesome GTI!
-
Here's a pic of my carbonio, as I said earlier the air box looks the same

-
I'd say the same part.
Probably all made in the same factory in the far east!
It even has the pipework going slightly towards the battery box, in the same way.
-
Yes just stick an APR badge on and put the price up by £100
As you say prob all made in the far east
-
I think this is the one
http://www.awesomegti.com/carbon-intake-2-0tsi
soooo cheap! How is it? How does it sound? It'd be awesome if you could prove some figures on a dyno...
-
Not sure if it's the same or just a copy ?
http://www.goapr.com/products/intake_carbonio_20tsi.html
-
It's defo not the same, so probably a copy
The cheaper one uses a Pipercross foam filter... just wondering if it's worth it and makes a difference or not!
-
Not too sure on performance gains with just the filter as I fitted the Miller at the same time,
But the Carbonio does make a nice discreet sucking noise and when fully on the gas and lift off it makes a dumping noise back through the filter, in a non Chavy sort of way
It Definatly breaths a lot better and has never felt restricted like the standard intake
-
Mine has the same K&N type filter, as opposed to the Pipercross foam filter the Awesome one comes with...but apparently the Carbonspeed now comes with a Pipercross filter!
Also, mine had the carbon moulded mounting lugs as per the APR/Carbonio versions...some of the pics of the Carbonspeed housings show rivetted on steel lugs.
-
The problem nowadays is that there are so many copy's of everything and half the time you never know what your getting, things just get rebranded in their own Co name
-
Very true...
Somebody will have done the initial R&D, then a factory in the far east will churn out the carbon for peanuts, with the end sellers putting their own couplers in the box, adding their choice of filter, putting stickers on, packaging them in fancy boxes and all claiming to have done their own R&D.
Eyes wide open and all that.
But it is a nice piece of carbon moulding!

I read that there are more people annoyed about cleaning the std exhaust pipes...anyone figured out a cure yet (apart from buying Miltek)...
After two years it became near impossible to clean the "bottom part" of the exhaustpipes and when cleaned the chrome was gone there..
-
I clean mine weekly with a bit of Autosol, and then a bit of AG SRP which seems to help next time they are cleaned
-
After two years it became near impossible to clean the "bottom part" of the exhaustpipes and when cleaned the chrome was gone there..
Mine went the same way very early on - the bottom part became tarnished/black and would not clean up (I tried Autosol and steel wool, but as you say, the chrome was gone)...so I left them to get properly black on the inside, before going down the fully black route.
