Title: Fixing my sun roof.
Post by: stainesy on 20 May 2012, 17:12
Ok my electric sunroof don't work propply.
When I press the putting to tilt it up it goes ok but when I go to close it only one side goes down.
When I look at the mechanism there is a metal thing that slides back.
On the side that closes the metal thing slides back ok.
On the side that don't close the metal thing don't slide back and a have to push it back with my fingers to get it to close.
Any ideas on what's happend and how to fix it?

The runners break mate.

Don't think you can change them.

I've got one for sale, I need to take it out the car then can confirm that you can't just replace the sliders or not......

Runners do break mate, mine have been broken for a year now. Really want to replace them. It's a whole sunroof job I'm afraid, so headliner out, rails and glass out and replace the whole lot.

Josho, PM me with a price when you can, if the seal doesn't leak

I wouldn't risk the brackets dislodging and jamming the roof open...

Is it the factory roof, if so then it can be easier to replace the complete unit.

Mine is broken too, mine however is wedged up with two strategically placed pieces of wood to stop it sagging once moving over 30mph

Think the drains are bunged too as cornering results in showers for passenger/driver depending on direction.

You remove the headlining - not difficult, but just need to remove visors, grab bars and pillar trims first before taking it out. Un couple the electric motor and the four drain pipes. Finally there are about 8 bolts that hold it attached to the roof. Once these are removed it should pretty much drop out - I did it on my own but easier with an extra pair of hands - if nothing else they can admire what a great job you've done. Then its just a case of putting the new one in.

Ive had mine in and out a few times now.My original one packed up with the same problem yours has.I ended up moving the silver slider with a flat blade screwdriver in time with the other side when putting the roof back down.
New sunroof in im afraid. Its a little bit of a pain but you will do it a piece of piss.
