Title: Set of Golf Clubs?
Post by: Dan n Nic on 15 May 2012, 13:56

I've had a few goes on the Driving Range over the years, but I went for my first "porper" round of golf at the weekend and really enjoyed it. I was just wondering whether anyone here plays and can point me in the right direction of where to look and what to look at in relation to buying a "beginners" set of clubs?

I don't want to spend a fortune as it could end up being just a fad, but I also do not want something that is going to fall apart the first time I hit the ground instead of the ball?

Cheers

You can go to somewhere like American Golf and pick up a very decent second hand set there.  Callaways are always full of win.

I bought a very nice Slazenger set from Sports Direct when I first started out.  Pointless spending big bucks until you can drive straight.

Only thing with those is you'd need to get them setup for your height and build (angle of the clubhead is adjusted) but most golf clubs will do that for a small fee

Bit out of touch with prices etc but if you are fairly serious then I'd spend at least £150 - £200 for your first set.  As you progress then look at the bigger brands like Ping, Callaway, Titleist etc

I would defanitly go second hand. my first set were. lost interest in it after breaking my shouldwr and having pins and plates put in but been trying to get back into it. sadly outgrown my clubs though so going to try get a set cheep second hand from a local golf shop. most shops do second hand so go in and ask. if not im sure they will be able to point you.in the right direction

Your most likely sh!t at it!  lol

I have played it for years and enjoy it. It is addictive and my ability has taken me on free holidays when playing competition finals (Spain and Portugal). Yes, it can be a good walk ruined but it is good fun.

Start with a second hand set and I would recommend something like Wilson Deep Red fat shafts, the have a more forgving sweet spot to help you along. Cost should be no more than £90 for everything.

Enjoy!

I have never played golf and never will pick up a set of golf bats.

I've been around golfers and on golf courses.

The course at Freshwater Bay is excellent for riding mountain bikes down through - there are some good jumps on to the greens.

Kerrse - you must know a lot of c*nts.

When I was younger I smacked a little tw@t who skidded on the green, hurt him bad. I pay a lot of money for membership and hate it when I see that, if that makes me a cu*t then I am a c@nt. Love mountain biking too and enjoy it but I don't ruin other peoples fun.

Vigilante golfers.

What lovely people golfers are.  You should have gone and hit the grounds keeper for letting him get away with riding on the course - bang out of order and it's important minions like that are whipped into line.

The grounds keeper was much better at growing fruit and veg patches tbh, he did need a slap now that you mention it.

Send them to Syria then. :smug:

Most companies these days do their business in a meeting or something. If I want to do real business I'd use a board room, I'd rather not waste time f**king around dressed like a tartan clown on a golf course with red faced racing post reading f**ktards.

As people said go second hand, don't spend more than £80, plenty on ebay for that price. Spend another £10-15 on few tee's, balls etc. If you get in to it and want something more pro than expect to pay anything from £200 to £5000. Find some local courses where they have non-club members days as it usually means you can play without having to worry about your handicap and some wannabe Tiger Woods type's nagging you...

or to get replies that help, get to golfshake.com.

BTW, Golf Days used to be great to generate business. I should really join the one for the Motor Trade, you would be suprised at the amount of contacts/new business you can get from this.

Don't bother with graphite for starters. If you get better at it then you can start investing in graphite but for the time being use steel and learn to control the ball with that.

Makes no difference really at the start. What you need to get as a starting point are Regular shafts, these have more whip when you go through the ball. Once you have discover swing control and club head speed you will be able to adapt and move up to stiff shafts. If this makes no sense don't worry, it will eventually.
