That's an incredible amount for insurance

It's crazy money. Can't justify that   it's weird as ATM I'm with elephant and paying 900 then between £10-20 here and there for when I declare the mods. Which together is prob about £1000 so not too bad. That's the max I would go to though

Might starts looking at polos :lipsrsealed:

dude look for a 1.8n/a its not fast but its still a golf. speed isnt everything. (although it would be preferable) but no matter what it is your going to be getting shafted by insurance companies around that power.

im paying less than a grand all mods declared and every optional extra on my insurance(windscreen, unlimited break down, hire car ect ect ect) and ive just turned 20. incredible what difference the extra 25 bhp makes to insurance costs, mine over doubles on a 1.8t.

Title: Re: Looks like a new car may be needed :( bloody insurance ;(
Post by: Granta Gti on 11 May 2012, 17:51
I was 21 last year and it cost me 850 with 2 years NCB if you have a girlfriend then say you are living with her and common law married that's what I did and it dropped by £400 with elephant insurance
Title: Re: Looks like a new car may be needed :( bloody insurance ;(
Post by: jnufcuk on 11 May 2012, 17:52
Currently with elephant now as they were the cheapest so going to see what they say :) after all they covers all mods bar one special one.....remap

But could live without a remap if it meant getting insurance for under £1000

If I was going to get another car I think it would be a lil polo then slam it  :lipsrsealed: after all there slow so less chance of breaking things

I dont advise it but how can they actually tell its mapped  :lipsrsealed:
An insurance inspector will be able to tell if it is checked for after an accident.

Sometimes being old is good - cheap insurance

They'd still have a job to prove it really, they'd need all the kit and would have to test the capabilities of the map.

Not really they all have the kit needed and you can tell when it was flashed easily, Someone on here crashed a 1.8T with no map declared and was lucky to get away with it, however its not somthing i would take a risk on.

On top of insurance I have to pay £250 tax wtf, dad is paying less for his 2.8vr6 :undecided: how does that work?

The only thing stopping me from selling is that I would have to fork out more money on buying a car and that money might as well use to spend on insurance.

Just really don't know what to do for the best  :undecided:

The whole declaring your mods is just another way of getting money out of you for nothing and they never pay out the full whack anyway only ever book value unless its agreed value. If you want to keep the car I would just insure as it is a 1.8t Golf I mean your wheels are genuine vw why would that be classed as a Mod and the remap etc how would they know that.I hate insurance companys they are a complete law to them selves they just rip people off and dont even ware a mask when they do it.

For me to insure a 1.8t quatro a3 its ony 2300. That's with a crash, no no claims and only, sp30 and am 21. I didn't look at golf turbo but I though it want too bad a price. Its one of the things u have to pay so they charge u watever. U can get it down in price though if u really try.

Yes but they will null and void you policy if they find out, it is never worth the risk.

I mean your wheels are genuine vw why would that be classed as a Mod and the remap etc how would they know that.

You have a point with the wheels but they were not fitted from new so are a mod, remap wise if you have a crash they will I am sure check.

If genuine vw alloys are classed as a modification even though there a vw standard part on a certian model of vw how would you stand if you dont use vw brake pads, engine oil or light bulbs do you need to tell them this  Admiral have classed my mods as optional factory extras or something along that ground cost me £23 extra anyway robbing gits.

That is the wrong way of looking at it, if it did not leave the factory with them it is a mod plain and simple.

So when a car has cruse control, xenons, wheels or leather fitted by the DEALERS and not at the factory is that classed as a mod? As a lot of options can be fitted at the dealers
Title: Re: Looks like a new car may be needed :( bloody insurance ;(

I just disagree with the whole insurance setup at the moment its been run by MAFIA they just pick a random price out the sky and its all one way traffic. You never get rewarded for not claiming and they punish everyone for other stupid drivers and fruadsters.Ive got 12 years NCB no claims no accidents and my insurance never goes down.I buy a etstate 100bhp and sell my Gt-tdi 115bhp and they want £100 more cause its 15bhp less its just plain and simple robbery without the masks.

If you can get the quote online then just take it out online. If you've declared it then it's declared. I had a similar situation with a car whereby the online quote was £800 cheaper than the 'over the phone' offer. I outlined this to the woman and her response was just to buy it online as she couldn't match it on the phone for some reason.
