Ive just worked out what I have paid in tax since 28/03/12 until 17/04/12.
Diesel 284 pounds
Income tax + national insurance 670= grand total 954 quid in tax to the tories in one month
and no wonder people are emigrating abroad in there droves.
Its a p*ss take this country
Rant over !!

All I can say is...
-
Could be worse, could be a Labour Govt who would truly piss the lot up the wall, on quangos and other sh!te we don't need...
Rant over !!
Thom
-
Thats whats happens when the few control the many!! And it will only get worse unfortunately.
-
Yea but come on guy's 284 pounds on diesel and to think that 250 quid of that goes straight in the government coffers!! These petrol tankers hold about 50k worth fuel and to think that 40k goes to the government
-
Yep its a rip off....but alot of people still believe its lawful and will defend it to the hilt. Its that smugness of, ''I'm a law abiding tax payer' and all that cobblers! The beleive that the be all and end all of contributing to society but in reality they might aswell throw there money onto the wind.
-
I pay that every month  plus £30 worth of cigarettes and £30 of drink a week :lipsrsealed:

Maybe if you were bright enough to realise it's spelt 'taxes' and there's no need for an apostrophe then you might have the wherewithall to understand why you have to pay tax in your life.
As it seems you don't I'd advise stopping buying stuff that incurs tax, or to f*ck off somewhere else where you think you'll get a better deal.
'rant over'.
Twazzock.

But then again how much do you earn to pay that tax and NI? It's a nice amount to get that much tax, I'd say over 35k
TBH the I'd say our tax is not that bad of a system even if it is a rip off (tax always is), but the grass is not much greener on the other side either, there's always pro's and cons even in other countries that are over the sea, you win some you loose some.

Its only greener if you have a job you can walk into :lipsrsealed:
Back home top rate tax is 15% but you need to earn millions common people pay 8%, but no National services like education or health. Lucky you chaps dont live in sweden or Norway they know the meaning of taxes over there
-
Yes, good point. Only a conservative government has ever collected tax.
-
Don't take any notice DH Jimble coz he's full of it  you know that anyway.
Full of truth.
Which hurts.
Only selfish scumbags whine about paying taxes. They pay for things that look after you as well as other people, some of whom are less fortunate than you. Damn they must annoy you.
It's called social responsibility. You can't actually lose it in any country you move to. You'll just wind up whining about different things.
-
I just remind myself that no matter how much tax i see deducted from my pay at the end of the week, that it could be alot worse, we are lucky in this country, people moan and groan about having less disposable cash and not being able to claim child benefit even though their earning double the national average. DH is right, no matter what, people will always find something to moan about, we just need to keep reminding ourselves that we are all blessed with the good fortune to live in the UK and if anything we need to do more to help others who are in desperate need.

I don't have an issue with paying taxes...I spent a lot of my early child hood being bought up on tax payers money...
The only issue I have is the way Tax payers money is waisted...I hate waist in any form,
The worse benefit case I can think of off the top of my head is Jobs Seekers Allowance...fine if you have have bill to pay etc etc, but what bills do 18 year old kids that still live at home and can't be arsed to get of there back side and find a job...this I don't like

Let's just be clear here.
I don't have an issue with paying taxes...I spent a lot of my early child hood being bought up on tax payers money...
No idea about your childhood, but that's great that you were looked after.
The worse benefit case I can think of off the top of my head is Jobs Seekers Allowance...fine if you have have bill to pay etc etc, but what bills do 18 year old kids that still live at home and can't be arsed to get of there back side and find a job...this I don't like
But it's not OK for those who genuinely can't find a job to have support, although it was OK for UK plc to pay to bring you up?
I really don't think there are that many people out there who 'can't be bothered'. Those few who can't be bothered tend to be highlighted, sensationalised and vilified, but they are small in number. The 'life' there is for those who can't/won't/don't work isn't much of a life and I don't envy them, but it's important there is a safety net for those who are less fortunate, because one person's deserving is another's waster - support for low paid/no jobs has to be available in some way and not cost a fortune to administrate.
Who deserves to be homeless?
There will always be contentious stuff around the edge of benefits, but it is generally a small portion of the total bill, so what looks like hitting of the nail on the head is actually far more like hitting yourself on the thumb with the hammer and missing the nail entirely, although it's the bit that gets all the tabloid coverage. This is why Steve30 has responded well to your point, because it's sensationalist boll0cks and he responds well to that.
For reference 'waist' is on your trousers. Personally I have no issue with waist, but waste is something of a different matter.
-
Thanks Guy for your support
-
they must have it easy on the diamond shaped isle :lipsrsealed:
I stand by my point made in previous posts.. the tax system is the wrong was round. The more you earn the less tax you should pay (based on a cap - calculated on the number of dependents and hours you work).
-
Steve... i don't know you, but fair play to the above for turning things around.
Goes to show that life is what you make it.

Wouldn't agree there, the more you earn the more you get taxed, say the tax kept going down and your salary went up, this would make the wealthier even more wealthy and divide society even more. The only way it would be fair is if everyone payed the same rate of tax ie 30% for example... But then you have another problem, where will you find the additional money to continue all the services we already receive such as education, health care etc?
Its a vicious circle with no win wins

DH if only you new me, let me just give you an update I spent 18yrs sleeping rough on the streets of London multi story car parks , subways, sofa surfing also stuck in the realms of addiction. In 97 I saw the light and worked my way up the ladder lets just say I worked my arse off to be where I am today, and no I didn't go to school so yes I'm sh!te at grammar also bad spelling. But hey ho here I am and grateful and glad to be alive due to liver failer back feb 12 due to the consequences of my past (life support machine for 3 days) No I don't want sympathy , just trying to let you know where i'm coming from??? Some people in this thread seem to have the wrong impression of me.
I will remove above by tonight just to keep my anonymity
Ahh the joys of quoting things.
Just think of the costs to the state you've incurred with your liver failure etc.
Maybe you should be regarding the tax you're paying now as a repayment of loans from the state incurred by your earlier wayward ways, rather than whining about paying the tax.
they must have it easy on the diamond shaped isle :lipsrsealed:
Shows how little you know about the IOW - some of the highest unemployment and lowest pay in the UK. Easy it definitely ain't.

Thanks for that DH , your a blinder

Mr.Diamond Hell, i take it you don't vote conservative?
Does anyone vote for them ?

f**k this, when i get some skills and money im bloody moving.
Best get off here, away from us and go get some skills then. They don't just appear out of no where, though I saw some behind that door over there, you know the one with a with the big sign above it that says "Library" above it
-
Mr.Diamond Hell, i take it you don't vote conservative?

Most people on here would seem to be conservative voters.
I'm certainly not one of them
-
I'm not a Tory voter, so I can now say to all those that did ...
I told you they'd fuck it all up
-
Surely you've learnt that the MK1 is awesome because it brought us the superb MK2, MK3 is a fat rusty pile of crud, the MK4 is a fat pile of crud who will start to rust shortly, the MK5 is ace and the MK6 is just a deface lifted MK5 and that you should have got an Audi instead of a VW.
-
Mr.Diamond Hell, i take it you don't vote conservative?
No and for many, many reasons.
I don't vote
More fool you.
I don't think the Torys have 'f*cked things up' - whoever got in after the banking clusterf*ck was going to get a proper shafting, but pulling stunts like reducing the top rate of income tax isn't going to get any plaudits from most people. It'll be interesting to see if they actually are able to step up the tax take from the top band of tax-dodgers. Seems extremely unlikely, but someone appears to have realised it's a good publicity stunt to be seen to go after them (toothlessly).
-
I am not a Tory by a long shot but I am able to see further back than the two years they have been in power.......
Labour have always gone on about the boom and bust Tory economics, but in my life time they have created the biggest busts and been responsible for the worst wastes of money.......
If you look at the short term ecnomics of the last 10 years and political desicions taken how could we ever vote Labour into office again?
We are now living with the consequences of what labour did over a 10 year period, I am glad we have some folks running the country who only care about money as the lack of it is precisely what ails us at this time.
What would labour be doing right now? Sweet FA as they would be alienating themselves from their grass root support if they made the cuts required
-
I earn about 30k a year and I can honestly say that things are expensive. I really do not know how people manage on 16k a year. That said, out of my salary each month comes my mortgage, a 292 quid loan for buying my ex out of the property plus my bills like car insurance etc. I have worked out that I am left with about 500 notes a month to fuel my car and eat..
I don't know how others copy..
BTW, I am with DH on this one, he talks sense. f**k the pics of the kids in Africa, there are kids who need help on our streets. I think the British system supports as many as it can. Yes there are those who sponge, but the majority of British are hard working honest people.
My biggest bugbare(sp) is Gang Violence, Gang Dominance in certain areas. I feel that no-one is proud to be British anymore, not many people will stop and help others for fear of retribution..Such a shame.
-
We are now living with the consequences of what labour did over a 10 year period
What goverment has f**ked us over the last 30 years :undecided: politicians don't care about the general public especially not ever so well off Torys
-
People forget new adminstration inherit the old problems i.e no monies!
The stop start cycle wasnt too bad it meant bad times good times since labour took it a bit too long the torch so to speak they spent too much in the wrong areas.
As for taxing higher incomes well thats a dicy one, hence we loose all capital investment flowing out of the country for tax havens. But last time I was in the banking circle clients took jobs and money away from a crippled country already.
Take money from the poor they just smoke and drink more, give them more money they just drink and smoke more
Such a Pandora box we live in
-
Boom and bust has been around alot longer than the last government.
I sometimes wonder if the bust is part of the plan long term, to force wages down :lipsrsealed:

why? the 80s were awesome!
i voted Lib dem but overall i like DC, i think no matter who got in there was a royal mess to clean up, no matter who gets in the press are going to shaft them and i think that he absolutely loves his country. i only have 2 major quames with him, 1: why oh why is the ark royal rusting in scotland and 2: why is he selling everything to serco
i did like it that instead of selling arc to the chinese who offered more than the asking price, he chose to sink her off devon. a tragedy but nobody else wants her. Other than that taxes are the fairest they have been for a long time.
-
i only have 2 major quames with him, 1: why oh why is the ark royal rusting in scotland and 2: why is he selling everything to serco
1. because we can't afford to run large armies now we're not a colonial power
2. Because his buddies own it/shares in it.
-
f**k this, when i get some skills and money im bloody moving.
not from the government
not from tax
but from you whiney lot
That's hilarious.. Next time you're having a good old moan about being unfairly given the tin tac I'll remind you of this post!
-
we are an island, you saying we don't need an aircraft carrier? Ark was the last, it was in the best condition. Lusty had been rotting in a port for over 8 months already, so they spent all that money de-coming it then realised oh christ we're an island nation running a war abroad and we have no means to take the fight to them. Then libya happened, and that conmpounded the fact that they completely f**ked it up. You leave your forces on land and sea completely naked without a carrier to protect them. So instead of admitting they were wrong, they spend an obscene amount of money on bringing back rusty lusty when all they had to do was re-suply and re man our FLAGSHIP for less money in less time. I have however spotted 8 mint condition GR7's hiding away in a corner at culdrose so i think there must be some sort of backup plan afoot. I do wish they'd just bring ark back and she'll do another 10 years easy!
-
There are sod all ships capable of carrying flag staff anyway. All carriers gone, Albion mothballed, Ocean falling to bits like the last carriers, and the type 22 frigates which were by far the best ships in the fleet, all now stripped and sold for scrap metal! An absolute waste, and I served on Cumberland, Campbeltown, and Chatham. Went on after they had been decommissioned to remove weapons systems and sensors, and it was really surreal. Not a nice feeling being on a completely dead ship, walking round with a head torch with nothing switched on. The government has got caught up in the idea that modern and future warfare is only going to be fought against extremists and terrorists. Thats the reason why they think there is no immediate need for carriers, as Bulwark and Ocean carrying landing craft and troops are where its at. We will therefore only go into an Operational Theatre with other Nato Countries so we can utilise their aircraft capabilities. Unfortunately the Argies are at it again and there is a distinct possibility that we may well require our own. It would be aircraft that would be vital again should they Invade the Falklands. Remember that basically their entire Navy was taken care of with a lone submarine, and their Armed Forces have been subject to massive budget cuts too, and so much so that they are on the point of disbanding. Again though, their air force would be the only cause for concern. Without an carrier platform we have nothing to fight back with tbh. We could probably regain the Islands by landing troops, but we couldn't carry on defending it without air support.
-
Good to see that we get value for money with our defence budget spending

The 4 Typhoons + one type 45 would destroy what's left of the ageing Arg Air Force just after it left is territorial waters.
Perhaps we could borrow one of the 3 USN - £7 BILLION EACH - Zumwalt class destroyers.

I think what you are missing is the cost for the conflict in Afghanistan tbh.. Those figures are sh!t! You cannot look at china/Russia and compare, simply because of how little they have done on foreign soil recently
-
So that figure is also including the cost of the war in afghan?
-
Those figures are scary/shocking. We'd get creamed in a war these days. f**king Tyspoons can barely hold there own let alone most of the weapons/stores we have at our disposal. Tornados are f**king horse sh!t and fall apart daily and as above we have no carrier to get them places. Our Army/infantry contingent is over stretched albeit probably some of the best trained in the world. The Navy...I don't know much about the Navy TBH, all I know is that a couple of nuclear subs wouldn't be able to stop much when they go tits up eventually and we decide to sell for scrap.
-
The Defense budget will include the cost for Afghanistan yep...
-
Thats even bloody worse then :lipsrsealed:
-
Our Nuclear Deterrent is probably our most valuable asset in Military terms. Pretty much go anywhere in the world, undetected and shove a Tomahawk up the most remote japseye anywhere! This is our only saving grace, and in addition to my last post, they could sit off the coast of Argentina and fire Missiles from underwater at strategic air bases all over. Stick that up your Malvinas!
-
let not all go to war....
-
I hate being the spelling Police but wasted & waste
Sorry, just that my waist has been on my mind recently
As for DH, your a bit of a legend at times, but...
But it's not OK for those who genuinely can't find a job to have support, although it was OK for UK plc to pay to bring you up?
I'm sure I didn't say that, people who 'need' it should get it but I'm afraid to say on a daily basis I have customers that have no intentions of going to work, they just sit there watching Jeremy Kyle smoking...
it's important there is a safety net for those who are less fortunate, because one person's deserving is another's waster - support for low paid/no jobs has to be available in some way and not cost a fortune to administrate.

it's the bit that gets all the tabloid coverage. This is why Steve30 has responded well to your point, because it's sensationalist boll0cks and he responds well to that.
Its not boll*cks its true, I didn't say it was the biggest waste, I just said its one off the top of my head that I don't like, as for tabloid coverage, I don't read papers or watch the news because that is sensational boll*cks...do you really think what goes on in the papers and on the TV is really true F*ck off, they tell us what they want us to know, they want us to rely on their bullsh*t so we don't think for ourselves or question what is really happening...
as for PM's, war and recession etc, does no one else feel like we are tiny little pieces on a big chess board?
-
Regarding the war, we have more mk3's than the argie's and as we know the mk3 was initially designed to replace to russian victor class subs, so there is still hope
-

The amount of money spent on making a skip water tight would out weigh the cost of making 12 brand new astute subs

So just to be clear you don't read the papers, or the TV?
So your opinions and nolidge on this whole 'current affairs and tax' thing comes from?
Way to go to invalidate your own opinions.
council tax pisses me off... apperently most of ours goes to some comitee who spend it.on flowers and sh!t?!?!?
i domt give a flying f**k about flowers and xmas decs!
You genuinely have no idea, do you?
You have some spare time at the moment, I recall. Look up which local authority you live under and go to their website. There you can probably access all of their accounts and a huge quantity of data about what your local authority does for you. It ain't flowers and Christmas decorations, it's stuff like schools, road repairs and all the fabric of society around you.
Then find out who's your town/parish council and go to their website. There you will be able to find out what they do for you and details of the cost. Their precept as part of your council tax is probably a tiny element of the cost of your council tax. They may do stuff with Christmas decorations and flowers.
-
Totally agree with DH.
Lots of good done councils et al, is undone by lots of waste.
An example.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2012/04/10/welsh-police-forces-criticised-for-wasteful-130-000-spend-on-bottled-water-91466-30731791/

My general 'knowledge' is exactly that, I talk to many people every day from different walks of life, I take in what goes on around me and there's a little known secret that is called intuition,
but all said in done I don't think there is a wrong or a right, there is just different peoples opinions...just because someone reads the Mirror doesn't make them right.
-
How come with council tax you also got to pay hundreds of pounds towards the police authority as well? Why is it only the police get extra cash and not the fire brigade and ambulance service :undecided:

In Newport there is a lot more crime but their council tax and police authority tax is much lower so how is that fair

Nearly 50000 Met police staff, London's a horrid place

then people in london should be paying 5k a year :lipsrsealed:

I might as well have my two penneth.........
Having read the entire thread I can kind of agree with a lot of what people are saying. It's digressed a bit from a tax paying moan, but nonetheless it still boils down to the original gripe of taxes (or is it tax's, or maybe taxi's?!).
If any of us had a choice we would choose to pay lower taxes or none at all. Of course we would. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. However taxes are not just designed to make you poorer. If you are in financial difficulty, instead of blaming the government (past or present), maybe cut back. Get rid of Sky. Try driving without your right foot firmly planted in the carpet. Just recently my views, not just on tax but on life in general have changed dramtically. Stick with me here. It goes off topic a bit, but will come back.....
12-months ago my father became ill. We were told at the time that it was pneumonia. He went for various tests, biopsies etc. In July 2011 we were told that he had cancer, again, for the 3rd time. In August 2011, after more tests, we were told that it was terminal. Approximately 12-months to live.
In January this year he took a turn for the worse and was admitted to hospital. I wont say which hospital, but it is in Crewe, Cheshire and is absolutely appalling! Anyway, they gave him 3-months to live. He came out after 2-weeks and received fantastic care from the District Nurses, McMillan and St. Lukes. District Nurses even stayed over a few nights to give us a rest. Less than 2-weeks later he passed away peacefully.
Back on topic now.........Can anyone hazard a guess at how much all that medical care and attention my father received cost us? The hospital appointments. The biopsies. The £2000 a time P.E.T. Scans. The Chemotherapy. The Prescriptions. The home care. etc....etc....etc....?
F*CK ALL. That's how much!
Now you may argue that we have already paid for that during our time paying tax. And that is true. But would you rather that than a Doctor saying "Well we can prolong your loved ones life, but we're going to need £5000 up front"?!
And that's just the NHS. Are mere percentage of what YOUR tax is spent on to make YOUR life better.
There are only 2 certainties in life. Paying tax is one of them. So quit moaning about it. Go out and enjoy life. And if times are that hard buy Aldi's own pizza's!! There is always someone worse off than you!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend x

I dispute that Steve. Not necessarily yourself, but reading some of the comments some people seem to have focused on solely the cost and not the benefits. I think some :lipsrsealed: are a little blinkered in their views.
Bupa all well and good, but you are essentially paying for 2 health care programs. Unless you have a very good medical scheme at work

then people in london should be paying 5k a year :lipsrsealed:
Errr we nearly do Steve! Surrey next to westminster have the highest council tax nationwide
-
How come with council tax you also got to pay hundreds of pounds towards the police authority as well? Why is it only the police get extra cash and not the fire brigade and ambulance service :undecided:

if you want to see money pissed away on futile attempts at road repairs by a council, come and visit the island. While you're here you can count the number of traffic lights we have in around Coppins Bridge and the town, we love 'em
