Title: Spark plugs again!!
Post by: 1.6mk4GOLF16v on 12 April 2012, 11:09
anybody know which ones i need for my car?

Denso any good?

my cars a 2001 1.6 16v AZD, Haynes manual states Bosch HPP222 but theyre unavailableto buy

Europarts gave me some NGK equivalent but they made heaps of exhaust smoke and 4litres of engine oil disapeared in a week! so i took em straight back for a refund after a heated debate with the manager about what was wrong with my car even though hes never seen it lol

should the plug gap be 0.9mm or 1mm or 1.1mm? and do they NEEd to be platinum?

You only need uprated plugs if its been modified.

I would be more worried about the oil consumption and the smoke (may be related) have a good look over before you go and get new plugs and did you check the old ones for oil fouling?

how much difference does the gap make as Denso have 2 diff plugs for my car, one with a 1.0mm gap and one with a 1mm gap?

email and ask them which would be better for your car.
And the 2 variants for your car were 1.0mm and 1.1mm

from the detail
The 1.0 look like they are for 00-09 plate
1.1 look like 09+ plate

always best to check with them before purchasing

Oil can't be burnt unless it's in the cylinder to begin with.

I'd look at that before panicing about spark plug gaps.

i believe the oil loss to be due to the wrong plugs that euro prats gave me, also as a result i now have a faulty coil pack  which ill be changing tomorrow

ngk's should be PZFR6J-11 and the gap is pre-set (to 1.1)

If thats what ecp sold you then you have other major issues

What colour was the smoke and what did the plugs look like when you whipped them out?

Sounds like piston rings (probably on cylinder 1).

I'd see about getting a compression/leak down test done.
